Top 7 "Most American" Coupes for 2013

To help shoppers who want to buy American cars, Edmunds has compiled a list showing the seven coupes with the highest percentage of U.S. and Canadian content. Our rankings are based on information reported by carmakers to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under the American Automobile Labeling Act (AALA).

In addition to showing the percentage of domestic content, there's also information regarding the country in which the car was assembled, the source of its engine and the source of its transmission. The AALA reports information for car lines, and some manufacturers do not split out specific models in their reporting. For that reason, the source of the transmission and engine may vary, depending on the car's configuration. For more details, consult the full AALA list.

For a quick confirmation of where a car was finally assembled, look at the first digit of the car's vehicle identification number (VIN). If it's a 1, 4 or 5, the car was assembled in the U.S.

Also included for each wagon is its score from the Kogod Made in America Auto Index, which looks not only at parts and assembly information but also at such factors as where a model's research and development took place, where a carmaker made capital investments and where the profits from the vehicle go. The Kogod index is scored on a 100-point scale.
