2026 Chevy Tahoe

The 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe can feel a bit like a dinosaur when compared to the endless supply of crossover SUVs flooding American streets. But as any 9-year-old can tell you, dinosaurs are awesome. The Tahoe received a refresh in 2025 and, in addition to an exterior refresh, got a power boost for its optional diesel engine. As such, we don't expect major changes to the 2026 Tahoe. Its massive size and strong towing power make it a great pick for large families looking to hit the open road.

Last year, Chevy gave the Tahoe a new nose and tail, a revised dash design and new features. The exterior tweaks are minor enough that you'll have to be a Tahoe enthusiast (do those exist?) to notice them. But the updated dashboard is apparent and gives the cabin a techy vibe. Chevy moved the previously dash-mounted push-button shifter to the column where it belongs. In doing so, it freed up space for a huge 17.7-inch touchscreen that's standard on every trim. The system is Google Android-based, and unlike its application in Chevy's electric vehicles, it features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The optional turbodiesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder now makes 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, up from 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft, respectively. And it's now offered in the Z71 trim. A 360-degree camera system and adaptive cruise are now standard on every Tahoe.

The Tahoe's primary competition is the Ford Expedition, which is offered with a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 in standard and high-output versions. However, there's a distinct lack of hybrid or diesel power in the Expedition's lineup. Other considerations include the also-revised-for-2025 GMC Yukon — the Tahoe's mechanical twin — the redesigned Nissan Armada, and the hybrid-only Toyota Sequoia. Checking out any of the biggest three-row crossovers is also a good idea — they're cheaper, more efficient and have nearly as much passenger space.

We tested the current-generation Chevy Tahoe for 42,000 miles, so if you're looking for a more in-depth view of Chevy's full-size SUV, it's a great place for a deep dive. In short, we relished its space and suffered no major problems, but the 5.3-liter V8's fuel economy was poor even by full-size SUV standards.
