2025 Chevy Equinox

Conventional wisdom dictates that you don't fix what isn't broken. Chevrolet adheres to that principle with the redesigned 2025 Equinox, a compact crossover SUV that is among the automaker's best-selling vehicles. Only slightly larger than the model it replaces, the new Equinox addresses overdue design and technology enhancements and adds a new Activ trim with trendy off-road styling. Otherwise, it remains similar to those that came before it, providing an appealing blend of comfort, utility and value. Do note, however, that this gas-powered Equinox is similar to the electric Equinox EV in name only.

Equipped with standard all-terrain tires, the new Equinox Activ offers better grip and traction on dirt, snow and mud. But that's the extent of its off-roading enhancements, and those tires come with increased road noise levels. All-wheel drive is an option on this trim — not standard — and with it you get an Off-Road driving mode, just like with the RS trim level. Also, Chevrolet reports no ground clearance advantage when choosing the Activ, and we've observed a bouncier ride on the pavement with this trim level. So choosing the Equinox Activ is about style, not substance.

With the new 2025 Equinox, Chevrolet will battle a long list of rivals to attract new buyers and retain existing customers. As of this writing, two of our top-rated compact SUVs include the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-50, each available with more powerful turbocharged engines and a hybrid powertrain. Not far behind are the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage, bringing impressive value, appealing tech, and both hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. By comparison, the new Equinox appears to have some heavy lifting ahead.
