1. Most luxury cars under 40 grand are small and sporty. Not the Lexus ES. It's big and comfortable, but unlike past versions, it's more stylish and better to drive.
2. There are two versions: the ES 350 has a 268-horsepower V6 that delivers average acceleration and fuel economy. The ES 300h is a hybrid that delivers comparatively quick acceleration for a hybrid and excellent fuel economy at 40 mpg combined.
3.The backseat is very large for a luxury car in its price range. Its 15-cubic-foot trunk is also comparatively big. The ES is basically a full-size sedan.
4. The ES isn't a sport sedan. It's certainly not what we'd call engaging, But it offers a comfortable ride and composed handling. It's also far more responsive and confidence-inspiring than past models.
5. Besides its generous dimensions, you also get quite a bit of equipment for your money -- especially compared to German brands. A rearview camera, xenon headlights, push-button start and satellite radio are just some of its standard features.
