I really wanted to like the ecoDiesel

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
Like the title states, I really wanted to like the ecoDiesel. When it ran, I was able to push 30 mpg on the highway and could easily pull anything I needed. The interior of the Summit edition was very nice, compatible to other luxury SUVs. Engine ran great, until..... the dreaded ecoDiesel recall. After the recall, it was in the shop almost as much as it was in my garage. After almost … 2 years of working with Jeep and the recall, replacing 14 glow plugs in 3 months, replacing, all fuel lines from the fuel tank to the engine and flashing the PCM multiple times, we finally thought we were good, until one day while pulling a trailer, the engine starts to make a horrible knock. Took it to the dealer and they informed me the engine is shot at roughly 170k miles. Appears there is a gear on the camshaft that is only held in place by friction. Once this friction breaks, bye bye engine. Mine went 170k miles with maintenance according to Jeeps recommendation. Others have stated this has happened in a few as 50k miles. First recommendation is Jeep needs to recall these engines to fix the camshaft. Until they acknowledge this and fix this issue, STAY AWAY from the ecoDiesel. Like I said, I really wanted to like this engine and suffered for over 2 years on the emissions recall thinking I could get 200k+ miles with the diesel, but the quality just isn't there for the premium price
I love my Grand Cherokee Summit

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
I love my 2015 GC Summit. The navigation system could be much better resolution wise. Maps are dangerously outdated. On the other hand, this vehicle is a joy to drive and looks fantastic. No reliability issues whatsoever. UPDATE 11/30/17: I purchased an updated nav map from HERE a few weeks ago. It is still missing highways changes that have been in place for several years. Directions … are still kind of crazy at times. It seems I wasted my money on the update. Otherwise, still happy.
Loved my Summit

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
I have owned a 2015 Summit for 6 years. It is an awesome vehicle and great looking. Whether it’s rain, snow or beautiful weather the ride is great. I have always felt safe and extremely comfortable is the luxury interior. Very roomy and great storage. Definitely a reliable suv. If I didn’t want to change my daily driver to an EV, I would have keep my Summit forever.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
I've owned Grand Cherokees for the past 20 years. They get better every time I buy one. As far as the cost of a luxury SUV I found Grand Cherokee cheaper than their competitors. Very happy!!
UPDATE: 7 Years later and very happy!! The engine 3.6 has been proven along with the 8 speed transmission which shifts and works great. We live in New England and the salt has had no effect on it. … Still has the original brakes after 70k. My wife loves it and feels very safe in it. My nephew has the same model with 170k and says it's the best vehicle he's owned. I'd definitely buy another one.
