The Mercedes-Benz GLC expands its 2025 lineup with the new GLC 350e plug-in hybrid model. The new powertrain uses the same turbo four-cylinder engine common to all GLC trims. Mercedes then further fits it with plug-in hybrid componentry, allowing you to drive the 350e moderate distances on electric battery power. It should make the GLC 350e a compelling option for drivers with short-range commutes or those able to regularly charge at home. At the other end, the forthcoming AMG GLC 63 S E Performance promises comically excessive performance — a claimed 671 horsepower — making it among the most beastly small SUVs on the market.
According to GeoTab’s data, if the observed degradation rates are maintained, the vast majority of batteries will outlast the usable life of the vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz previously offered a GLC 350e for the previous generation but discontinued it after the 2020 model year. This 2025 350e marks the return of a plug-in powertrain for the latest GLC generation that debuted two years ago. It has a lot more electric range than the old model, with an estimated 54 miles of range on battery power alone. Mercedes also says you'll potentially need only 30 minutes to fully charge when connected to a public fast-charging station. This is a rare ability as most plug-in hybrids lack the ability to charge at fast-charging stations.
Competitors to consider
The GLC competes with other luxury SUVs such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Lexus NX, Genesis GV70 and Volvo XC60. How does the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class drive? We tested the GLC 300, which has a four-cylinder engine and a mild hybrid system. It provides impressively smooth acceleration, and the automatic transmission shifts quickly and responsively. At Edmunds' test track, our GLC test vehicle accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, an average time for a small luxury SUV with a base engine. Bringing that speed to a halt are strong, confident brakes that perform equally excellently at max effort, as they are smooth and easy to use.
The optional summer tires that our test GLC came with played an integral part in the GLC's impressive braking and cornering grip. But even without the help of that extra tire grip, the GLC is a well-tuned machine that can maintain composure around turns with natural athleticism.
The ride quality of the GLC meets expectations for a luxury SUV. While it's not the most comfortable in its class, it never feels overly harsh. Visibility is commendable thanks to its largely unobstructed windows, though the chunky front pillars can be a minor hindrance. Fortunately, the 360-degree camera suite and advanced driver aids make maneuvering this compact SUV a breeze.

How comfortable is the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class? The GLC provides enough comfort to satisfy luxury-class expectations. However, we weren't huge fans of its front seats. While their cushions are firm and supportive, there's nothing about them that really goes above and beyond. Getting in and out requires slightly stepping over its side rails, but it's not too troublesome. It's a similar story for its second row, although the GLC benefits from having more rear legroom and headroom than a Genesis GV70.
Its front row provides excellent adjustment for its seats and steering column, meaning most people should be able to quickly find a comfortable seating position. Most controls are touchscreen-based except for the seat heaters. Thankfully, they're always accessible via the screen's lower dock, limiting the number of double presses required.
Once on the move, the cabin is uber quiet, especially on our test vehicle, which was equipped with a mild hybrid system. It glides to a stop and its engine shuts off during coasting, resulting in added quietness. However, as its engine kicks on, you hear a fair bit of noise, and unfortunately, it's a note that's not quite as refined as what you get out of six-cylinder offerings.
In-cabin tech

How’s the tech? Mercedes-Benz continues to lead the field in technology. The MBUX infotainment system is user-friendly, and while some functions are buried deep in menus, everything was eventually easy to find. The onboard navigation system, enhanced with augmented reality turn-by-turn directions, is also one of the few that can rival popular smartphone apps. But if you prefer your smartphone, Mercedes-Benz has one of the best wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrations we've seen.
Our test GLC had six USB-C ports on board, so everyone's devices can get some juice at the same time. There's also a wireless charger tucked away in the center console, which is a bit cumbersome to access especially if you have drinks in the cupholders.

How’s storage and cargo? While the previous GLC failed to impress from a storage and cargo perspective, Mercedes-Benz has improved in both areas this year, even if only modestly. Interior storage still feels sparse, and the use of available space isn't nearly as clever as we've found in some of the GLC's competitors.
The GLC's official cargo capacity behind the rear seats (21.9 cubic feet) is below average, though in our testing, we found the GLC's space to be pretty useful in real-world scenarios. The Benz features convenient folding 40/20/40-split rear seatbacks that can be lowered nearly flat with the touch of a button in the cargo area.
While the GLC tows up to 3,500 pounds, it is nearly a half-ton behind competitors like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

Is the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class a good value? The great thing about most of the new small Mercedes-Benz models is that you don't feel like you're getting a cheaper product. You're simply getting a smaller version of its larger flagship vehicles. This holds true for the GLC, which feels classy and solid through and through. Unfortunately, you pay for that solid build quality and true luxury experience. The Mercedes is one of the more pricey models across the board, so if you're a value-driven shopper, you may be better served elsewhere.
Mercedes' warranty also continues to lag the rest of the class. The basic and powertrain warranty runs for four years/50,00 miles, and roadside assistance is provided for that duration as well. No free scheduled maintenance is included.
How’s the fuel economy? We tested the GLC 300 4Matic, and it gets an EPA-estimated 26 mpg combined in city/highway driving. That's 2-3 mpg better than most equivalent SUVs. We also achieved an impressive 27.9 mpg on our standardized test route, which is an indication to us that the EPA numbers should be accurate.

Designed for understatement is something we've come to expect from Mercedes-Benz. The GLC's styling is clean and classic Mercedes and doesn't break any new ground. That may be fine for some, but we like to think there's greater glory to be won when a little more risk is taken, and this is about as safe and small a step as one can take. This might be forgiven if the GLC overdelivered with fun behind the wheel, but it doesn't. It's perfectly lovely, pleasant and easy to drive every day. Wholly competent. But for this kind of money, we'd want a little more spice in our life.

Which GLC-Class trim does Edmunds recommend?
We think the standard GLC 300 should suit most drivers. It's available with rear- or all-wheel drive, and adding the Exclusive package (premium sound system, surround-view camera, navigation) gives it some extra convenience and utility. We haven't tested the 350e plug-in hybrid yet, but it promises to offer a compelling option for owners hoping to reduce their gasoline use.
I own a '25 GLC350e PHEV. After 6 months of ownership, I could not be happier with it! We plug in virtually every day at home and/or work and much of that is free. The car performs well in day to day usage. Only 1 tank of gas in over 4500 miles of driving. I believe we're averaging 84 MPGe. MB says 54 mile range, but the battery capacity shows 75 miles of battery range after each … full EV charge, and that's been consistent. Vehicle is composed, quiet and handles reasonably well at the end of any given day. My belief is that the hybrid system is a wonderful compromise and very effective for us. We charge at home at both Level 1 and Level 2, and have used the DCFC capability as well, and that is especially impressive to utilize. Only short coming for us is the reduced rear cargo capacity because of the battery location. That being said however, it is still far more capable than sedans or hatchbacks and can be overcome with options in the marketplace. I will repeat this again: only 1 tank of gas used in over 4500 miles of driving in our situation i.e., with daily recharging!! At night after work, in the garage over night (or less time than that) based on usage. Could not be any easier.
We've had the 350e for 2 months, and we still have more than half a tank of the gas it originally came with. Around town it's electric only all the time. For longer trips we switch to hybrid mode but that is infrequent. If you, like us, have access to a garage with a standard outlet, this car is a no-brainer. Rated at 54 miles of electric range, we routinely get 52 miles of range … with the battery at just 80% (one quick note: the charging cord that comes with the car can only do 1 kwh, A type one cord from Amazon gets us to 1.5 kwh which makes a significant difference). The car itself is classically styled, both in and out. It drives smoothly and has a lovely, comfortable interior. We bought a dealer demo and saved $10,000. Couldn't be more pleased.
My car is 4 months old and in the shop for the second time for the same check engine light. 1st time in the shop for 7 days. Had it back a week and then the check engine light appeared again. This time it remains in the shop and it has been there over 9 days. Time to replace with a reliable vehicle.
We we custom ordered a new 2025 GLC 350e last summer and received it in November. We were going to finance it but the dealership talked us into leasing it instead so we did that and so glad we did as this PHEV has had one issue after the other.
Surprisingly, none of the issues are with the engine which has been perfectly fine so far. It’s nice being able to drive mainly on electric and … I’ve only had to put some gas in 3 times in the last 5 months or so. Power is adequate but by no means is it fast, even when the gas engine kicks on.
All of our issues stem from the brakes and the interior build quality, which I thought was supposed to be MB’s specialty. When we took it for its first test drive, there was a horrible rattle/buzz coming from the infotainment screen. Had to bring it in a few weeks later to get that fixed. Then there was a loud rattle coming from behind the dash - had to bring it in again. Then another time for excessively squeaking brakes, volume issues with the infotainment, and most recently, the sunroof switch stopped working. You get the picture. Let’s just say I’d be super upset if we actually went through and financed this. At least we know we can just return this at the end of the lease.

Defect Consequence:
A loose steering coupling can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action:

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2023-2025 GLC 300, GLC 300 4MATIC, 2024-2025 AMG GLC 43 4MATIC, 2025 GLC 350E 4MATIC, and AMG GLC 63 S E vehicles equipped with a panoramic sunroof. In certain crash scenarios, where the rear occupant's head contacts the C-pillar, the pillar may not absorb an adequate amount of the impact. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact."
Defect Consequence:
In the event of a crash, insufficient impact protection can increase the risk of injury.
Corrective Action:
Dealers will modify the roof lining and C-pillar trim, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 9, 2025. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
