Overview

If you want a full-size three-row SUV for hauling family, friends and gear, the Ford Expedition is a great place to start. Last year, Ford fully redesigned the standard-size Expedition and massive-size Expedition Max to incorporate more modern styling that echoes the current crop of F-150 pickup trucks, with which the Expedition shares many of its underpinnings. With that redesign still looming large in the rearview mirror, we expect only minor changes to the 2026 Ford Expedition.
Edmunds spotlight: Inside information
The biggest changes to the newest version of the Ford Expedition are inside, where it's completely overhauled with a more refined and better-looking interior. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the 13.2-inch center touchscreen and massive 24-inch display perched atop the dash. The latter display feeds the driver information such as speed, engine rpm, and the rest of the traditional info gauges, but it also mirrors things like maps from the infotainment touchscreen, helping keep the driver's eyes on the road. It's also user-configurable. As for the rest of the redesign, we're fond of the new split tailgate. The top three-quarter section raises like a traditional tailgate, but the bottom folds like a truck tailgate, and it's strong enough to sit on.
Competitors to consider
A surprising number of full-size SUVs are out there competing for your dollars, and many were recently updated. For the "smaller" Expedition, the most obvious rivals are from General Motors in the form of the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. However, the Nissan Armada was also recently redesigned and it's surprisingly competitive. The Jeep Wagoneer or hybrid-only Toyota Sequoia might also be worth a look. If you're looking at the bigger Expedition Max, the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL are direct competitors, as is the Jeep Wagoneer L.
2026 Ford Expedition trim level differences
[Editor's note: The following unofficial information is based on last year's Expedition. We expect the 2026 model will have a similar lineup and we'll update this section once we have complete information.] The Ford Expedition is available in four trim levels: Active, Platinum, Tremor and King Ranch. You also have the choice of the regular-wheelbase Expedition and the long-wheelbase Expedition Max that provides more cargo space. Both wheelbase versions can be optioned to seat seven or eight passengers.
Which Expedition trim does Edmunds recommend?
Ford hasn't released official information on the 2026 Expedition as of this writing. We'll update our recommendation if anything changes, but based on last year's Expedition, we think the Platinum is the way to go for the best all-around value. For the money, you get four-wheel drive, the heavy-duty tow package, the BlueCruise hands-free driving assist system, and a ton of features that add comfort and convenience. It's also eligible for the more powerful engine.
