The Ford Raptor is an amazing off-roader that's also packed with modern features. It's a trophy truck for the streets. It's got a hefty price tag, however, and it can't tow or haul as much as a regular 2024 F-150.Read full review

Few vehicles have consistently dominated their segment time and time again like the Ford F-150 has. The success of Ford's light-duty pickup truck is partly due to the almost endless configurations it offers. Whether you're looking for an affordable work truck, luxury cruiser or capable off-roader, the F-150 has you covered. It offers a wide range of engines, from a base V6 to a powerful hybrid powertrain. You have a choice of several cab and bed sizes and an incredible number of features to choose from including the Pro Power Onboard system that can supply juice to various electronics. And for 2024, the F-150 looks to be even better thanks to the most significant update since this latest-generation truck debuted for the 2021 model year.

Edmunds spotlight: The 2024 F-150's changes
You can spot the updated F-150 from its mildly updated grille and headlights. But more important is what's inside. All F-150s now get a full digital gauge cluster and a 12-inch central touchscreen display as standard. Other tech improvements encompass an update to BlueCruise, Ford's hands-free driving assistance system, to make it more useful and helpful in highway traffic. Under the hood, the turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 now serves as the truck's base engine. Also, the Raptor R's supercharged 5.2-liter V8 gets a boost in power, and the price for the optional PowerBoost hybrid has been reduced to be the same as the optional turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. Finally, there's a new optional tailgate that opens in additional ways to make cargo loading easier.
Competitors to consider
The changes made for 2024 help keep the F-150 at the top of its game and ensure it stays at the top of our truck rankings. But if you're still undecided on what truck to get, check out the Ram 1500. It's currently the F-150's most competitive rival and is the smoothest-riding pickup. The recently redesigned Toyota Tundra is also worth a look, and the F-150's longtime archenemy, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, has a lot to offer. To get our test team's in-depth review of the Ford F-150, check out the Edmunds Expert Rating below.

We drove the 2024 Ford F-150 on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year. The Edmunds Vehicle Testing Team evaluates a fresh batch of vehicles every week, pairing objective assessments at our test track with real-world driving on city streets, freeways and winding roads. The data we gather results in our Expert Ratings. They’re based on 30-plus scores that cover every aspect of the automotive experience.
Performance
8/10
How does the F-150 drive? The Raptor has 450 hp, but we found that the optional 37-inch tire package on our test truck hindered straight-line performance. In Edmunds' testing, our truck accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. Yes, that's quick, but no quicker than an F-150 fitted with the regular 400-hp V6 or the hybrid powertrain. The Ram 1500 TRX blows it away with its 4.2-second sprint. Thankfully, the 10-speed automatic provides smooth and quick shifts to make everyday driving easy.
The F-150 has direct and quick steering. That makes the truck feel maneuverable in parking lots and stable on the freeway. The brakes are another story, however, requiring 149 feet to bring the Raptor to a stop from 60 mph. A distance that long is typically reserved for a heavy-duty pickup truck and we can blame a lot of that on the off-road tires, but it's still quite long.
If you can reach the limit of a Raptor's off-road potential, you're pretty much a hero. With locking differentials, available 37-inch tires, and a widened and long-travel suspension, there's almost nowhere on Earth this thing can't go. Its Achilles' heel, however, is anywhere narrow. This truck is best in wide open spaces, not tight mountain trails.

Comfort
8.5/10
How comfortable is the F-150? While some F-150 seats can be overly firm, the Raptor's seats are comfortable for even the longest of journeys. There is a wide range of adjustability, plenty of lumbar support, and decent bolstering to hold you in place. The front seats get heating and ventilation, while a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats are optional. The heating functions work extremely well, and the automatic climate control is quick to cool or heat the cabin.
Unique to the Raptor (among F-150s) is a rear coil-spring suspension that provides an even better ride than usual, especially when combined with the large, bump-absorbing 37-inch tires our test truck had. Tire noise is a bit higher as a result, but wind noise is kept to low volumes. The turbocharged V6 gets a specially tuned exhaust in the Raptor — it's raspy and somewhat satisfying but not as fun as the whining supercharger in the TRX.

Interior
8.5/10
How’s the interior? Just like any other F-150, the Raptor has an intuitive interior layout, so you never have to second-guess what you're reaching for. You can adjust most of the truck's big knobs and controls even when you're wearing gloves. Getting in and out will require some climbing, but that's no surprise in this class.
A wide range of seat, steering wheel and pedal adjustments ensure a fit for drivers of all shapes and sizes. The crew cab's spaciousness means you won't be short on room either. Ample exterior visibility is afforded in part by large windows and a scalloped section in the front door that clears a view around the side mirrors. The 360-degree surround-view camera system provides visibility all the way around too.

Technology
8.5/10
How’s the tech? The F-150 offers many impressive tech features and the Raptor gets most of them as standard. The 12-inch center touchscreen and digital gauge cluster are attractive and easy to use. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration is standard, as are advanced driver aids such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot warning with trailer coverage. Switching into the truck's Baja drive mode when you're off-roading means that you have full access to the forward-facing camera without speed restrictions, and that's pretty cool.
Ford's Pro Power Onboard generator system is available on the Raptor. It's limited to 2 kW of output, but it should be enough for powering many of the household appliances or electrical gear you'd be bringing along for camping or tailgating.

Towing and Storage
8/10
How are the towing and storage? The Raptor has respectable capabilities, but its numbers are nowhere near the maximums that regular F-150s are capable of providing. Maximum towing capability stands at 8,200 pounds, well below a standard F-150's maximum. Payload is a similar story with a lackluster maximum of 1,400 pounds in the Raptor. Don't expect to haul the same loads you can with other trucks just because the Raptor looks a bit more serious.
Inside, cabin storage is just as impressive as in any other crew-cab F-150, with lots of storage cubbies and places for water bottles. The bed isn't the biggest, and the tailgate doesn't do any origami-style folding, like those on the Ram and GM trucks. But the available power up-and-down feature and tailgate step remain useful.

Fuel Economy
7/10
How’s the fuel economy? EPA-estimated fuel economy for the Raptor with the 37-inch tire package is 15 mpg combined. We test vehicles on a standardized driving evaluation route, combining city and highway driving, and in that scenario the Raptor returned 15.4 mpg. For a truck that weighs nearly 6,000 pounds, that's surprisingly decent. Compared to the TRX with its 12 mpg combined rating, it's practically a fuel sipper, but compared to almost any other full-size truck, it's on the gas-guzzling side.
Value
7.5/10
Is the F-150 a good value? This is a solidly built and well-appointed truck that provides some plush touches along with extreme off-road capability. The Raptor is pretty expensive for a full-size truck, and that's before you add any options. Our test truck was equipped with the optional (and pricey) 37-inch tire package. You get some extra ground clearance from it, but we think we'd stick with the 35-inch tires.
The Raptor's warranty and ownership perks are average for the segment with a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and roadside assistance that lasts for five years/60,000 miles.

Wildcard
9/10
The Raptor gets the job done when it comes to providing an intimidatingly large footprint and heaps of off-roading capability. There's almost nowhere this truck can't go (unless it's somewhere narrow).
Which F-150 does Edmunds recommend?
The Raptor pretty much comes fully loaded. Your main decision will be the 35-inch tires versus the optional 37-inch tires. The 37s provide a little more ground clearance and a beefier look but reduce wheel travel a little bit. For the Raptor R, Ford makes that decision for you by making the 37s standard.
Ford F-150 models
The 2024 Ford F-150 is offered in six primary trim levels: XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch. There are also the off-road-oriented Tremor, Raptor and Raptor R versions that exist outside the traditional lineup. There are three cab styles — regular, SuperCab (extended) and SuperCrew (crew cab) — and three bed lengths depending on cab style. Along with the many trim levels and cab styles, the F-150 offers six available powertrains. All are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Keep reading for our breakdown of the F-150's powertrains and each trim's significant standard and optional features.
The engine lineup includes:
- Turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 (325 hp, 400 lb-ft)
- 5.0-liter V8 (400 hp, 410 lb-ft)
- Turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 (400 hp, 500 lb-ft)
- Raptor-specific turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 (450 hp, 510 lb-ft)
- Raptor R-specific supercharged 5.2-liter V8 (720 hp, 640 lb-ft)
- A hybrid powertrain (Ford's PowerBoost) that combines the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with an electric motor and a battery pack (430 hp, 570 lb-ft)
(Note: The all-electric F-150 Lightning is reviewed separately.)
XL
Standard features on this base trim level include:
- 17-inch steel wheels
- Keyless entry
- Class IV trailer hitch
- LED headlights
- Vinyl flooring
- Digital instrument panel
- 12-inch touchscreen with Sync 4 infotainment system
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration (both with wireless connectivity)
Driver assist features on the XL include:
- Lane keeping assistance (steers the F-150 back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
- Forward collision warning with automatic braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
- Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
- Rear automatic braking (applies the brakes automatically to avoid an imminent collision with an object behind the vehicle)
STX
The STX is equipped similarly to the XL but has 20-inch wheels and carpeted flooring. It also has greater availability of optional features than the XL.
XLT
Adds to the XL with:
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Carpeted flooring
- Power-adjustable driver's seat
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- 360-degree camera system (gives you a top-down view of the F-150 and its surroundings for tight parking situations)
- Pro Trailer Backup Assist (knob-based steering system to make reversing with a trailer easier)
Lariat
Gets you more premium features such as:
- 20-inch alloy wheels
- Power-folding side mirrors
- Leather upholstery
- Power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation
- Ambient interior lighting
- Power-adjustable pedals
- Eight-speaker B&O sound system
- Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the F-150 and the car in front)
- Lane centering system (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane)
- Ford's BlueCruise system (uses the vehicle's advanced driver aids to further provide hands-free driving capability on select highways)
Platinum
Upgrades over the Lariat with:
- Special exterior and interior trim
- Pro Power Onboard (see description below)
- Tow/Haul package (see description below)
- Power-adjustable, heated steering wheel
- Upgraded front seats
- Heated rear seats
King Ranch
Similar to the Platinum but also has:
- Special two-tone exterior and interior
- Two-panel moonroof
- Adaptive suspension (adjusts to improve ride comfort and handling)
- Massaging front seats
- Mobile Office package (see below)
- Head-up display (displays important information in your sight line on the windshield)
- 14-speaker B&O premium sound system
Tremor
The off-road-oriented Tremor is only available as a crew cab with the 5.5-foot bed. It essentially starts with XLT content and adds:
- Standard 4WD
- 18-inch alloy wheels with 33-inch all-terrain tires
- Skid plates
- Selectable terrain driving modes
- Uniquely tuned off-roading suspension
- Locking rear differential
Raptor
The off-road-oriented Raptor includes a higher-output turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, 4WD with low-range gearing and more. Broadly, it combines many of the luxury-oriented features from the King Ranch with the off-road features of the Tremor, plus:
- 17-inch alloy wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires
- Raptor-specific off-roading suspension with adaptive Fox shock absorbers
- Raptor-specific fender flares and grille
Raptor R
The Raptor R swaps the Raptor's turbocharged V6 for a much more potent supercharged V8. It also comes standard with 37-inch tires that are otherwise an option on the regular Raptor.
As you'd probably expect of a full-size pickup, the F-150 is available with all sorts of options. Most lower trim levels can be fitted with options that come standard on higher trims. Other significant options to look out for are:
- Pro Power Onboard
- Adds household-style plugs that can be used to power tools, electronics or small appliances
- Available with three power ratings: 2 kW, 2.4 kW and 7.2 kW (hybrid engine only)
- Mobile Office package
- Fold-down center console work surface
- Wireless phone charger
- FX4 package
- Electronic-locking rear axle
- Off-road tuned suspension
- Skid plates
- All-terrain tires
- Tow/Haul package
- Integrated trailer brake controller (allows adjustment of a trailer's brakes from inside the vehicle)
- Onboard Scales (measures and displays the weight of the F-150's payload)

2024 Ford F-150 Raptor 4dr SuperCrew 4WD 5.5 ft. SB (3.5L 6cyl Turbo 10A)
I've owned a '21, '23 and now a '24 Raptor and my '24 is my favorite. Head-up display is certainly no game-changer but it is NICE and I really appreciate having it (was not available until MY24). The all black wheel flares is a great change over the darker grayish type they used previously and the front end takes on an even more aggressive stance. I also like the chnage to the Raptor … decals on both the fenders and hood. Add in the REDUCED costs, and the fact you CAN find these at MSRP (now more than ever for the Gen 3), this is a good time to buy one if you've been waiting to pull the buy trigger. I am very happy w/ this Raptor.

Absolutely love my new 2024 F150 Raptor. I'm amazed at the level and quality of upgrades over the 2023 on this mid-cycle refresh. The experience at the dealership was very comfortable and spot on with integrity and courtesy. I highly recommend AutoNation Ford in Fort Worth on Bryant Irvan Road.

Ford F-150 vs. Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The rivalry between the F-150 and Silverado goes back decades. The Silverado is outperformed by the F-150 in most ways including efficiency, comfort, and towing and hauling. On the plus side, the Chevy offers a range of potent engines, including a turbodiesel, and it can be optioned with excellent tech features. There's also an available multipurpose tailgate. Chevy doesn't offer a high-horsepower off-road model like the F-150 Raptor R, but the off-road-oriented ZR2 is still very impressive.
Ford F-150 vs. Ram 1500
The Ram is a superb alternative to the F-150. In fact, we rated it just a tad behind the F-150. It boasts the most comfortable ride in the segment, an attractive, upscale interior, and smooth powertrains including an efficient turbodiesel. The Ram doesn't offer as many engines or a long bed option, but it does have a rival to the Raptor R, the 702-horsepower TRX. The Ram provides plenty of tech and two features the Ford doesn't: useful locking bins in the bed (RamBox) and a tailgate that can open outward like doors. There's no full hybrid model, though, or anything like Ford's Pro Power Onboard feature.
Ford F-150 vs. Toyota Tundra
When Toyota redesigned the Tundra for the 2022 model year, it was a vast improvement over the previous dated model. Although low on engine options, the Tundra gives you a choice of a torquey turbocharged V6 and a powerful hybrid powertrain that's a tad more potent than the F-150's. Like the Ford, the Tundra provides a comfortable ride and impressive tech features, including an optional 14-inch touchscreen. The Tundra is a well-rounded pickup, but it doesn't excel in any category or offer a two-door regular-cab model. Its TRD model is capable, but it doesn't quite compare to the Raptor. Overall, the F-150 has a lot more to offer.
