The 2025 Hyundai Sonata is a standout pick for a midsize sedan. It's offered as both a hybrid or a traditional gas-powered sedan and comes with the option for either front- or all-wheel drive. While it's not an out-and-out performance machine, the Sonata N Line, its top trim, comes with a juiced-up turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes a very healthy 290 horsepower. How does the Hyundai Sonata drive? Acceleration feels good off the line but tapers off once you're rolling. Essentially, it feels zippy around town but it may take some planning to pass cars at freeway speeds. In Edmunds' testing, our Sonata Hybrid test car covered 0-60 mph in 8.3 seconds. That's a bit slower than hybrid versions of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry we tested.

Ride comfort is a high point and strikes a good balance between being comfortable and controlled. The Sonata Hybrid's suspension absorbs impacts well without being overly floaty or soft when you take on curvy roads. And although it's easy to drive around town, the Sonata feels lazy most of the time. It meanders along roads, the tires give up grip quickly, and the steering feels remote and exceptionally artificial.

The Sonata's collection of advanced driver aids is comprehensive, and the aids work well together. The warning sensors can be sensitive but never annoying. The instrument panel features unique sideview cameras when merging into the left or right lane. Rear visibility is a little impeded by the thick rear window pillars and sloping roof.

How comfortable is the Hyundai Sonata? The Sonata Hybrid is a pretty comfortable car, but it isn't perfect. The front seats have a nice shape, but we found the padding a bit stiff, reducing comfort on long trips. The outboard rear seats are nice and cushy, but the middle seat is stiff and uncomfortable.

There's plenty of interior room for front occupants, and rear legroom is similarly generous. Thanks to the range of adjustments in the seat and steering wheel, most drivers will find that it is easy to settle into a comfortable driving position. The Sonata's center controls are intuitive to use and easy to reach.

There's plenty of room in the rear for installing child safety seats. The LATCH lower anchors are well labeled and easy to access. However, the upper part of the anchor is a little tight, so installation can be tedious.

The climate control system blows strong and cold at its max and is very effective at regulating cabin temperature in auto mode. Surprisingly, road and wind noise is higher than average. It's not bothersome or loud, but you know that it's there. There's some engine noise at freeway speeds as well.

How’s the tech? The Sonata is loaded with tech and everything works pretty well. It leads the class for standard infotainment screen size and responsiveness. Smartphone pairing, which works wirelessly for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, is quick and easy. There are three USB-C ports, but rivals offer more charging options. The screen is also great when using the available surround-view camera system while parking. The voice controls work well with natural speech commands for radio, navigation and phone.

How’s storage and cargo? The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid's 16 cubic feet of cargo room is less than the Accord's 16.7 cubic feet but more than the Camry's 15.1 cubes, and there's a good amount of practical storage. The trunk opening is wide, has a good liftover height, and there's not much of a drop into the cargo area. The rear seat dropdown levers are conveniently located along the top outboard areas of the trunk, and the pass-through is broad but has a hump that leads up into the cabin.

Inside, there are plenty of storage areas to keep small items. The center console area alone has plenty of spaces for multiple phones, electronic passes and other items. The console itself is about 5.5 inches deep, and the cupholders are sizable enough for larger cups and bottles.

Smooth driving . Great city and highway driving. Safety systems like my wife’s Mercedes E350. Drivers assistance, emergency breaking, lane tracking. I drive 24,000 miles a year. The car comes with the standard 10 year warranty. I have driven German cars for the last 35 years.. It was time to buy a more reliable and less expensive expensive car. I couldn’t be happier.
