Overview
The Ford F-350 Super Duty has been fully redesigned for 2023, with fresh styling inside and out, an updated powertrain lineup, and a whole host of new tech to help with towing, hauling and more. In fact, the F-250, F-350 and F-450 are new for this year. The new Super Duty isn't vastly different than before, with Ford focusing on refinement and making driving such a large vehicle even easier. That's good since trucks are being tasked with doing more than ever before.

If you just looked at the outside, you'd assume the 2023 is merely a cosmetic update of the current truck, with similar bodywork and a light revision of the grille and the headlights and taillights. But the interior has been completely redone, though it bears a resemblance to the current F-150 (which was all-new for 2021). The Super Duty is still suitable as a work truck; just get it with vinyl floors, vinyl upholstery and a bench seat. But it can also be a luxury truck with available two-tone leather upholstery; heated, ventilated and massaging seats; and an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.
There are plenty of other changes, too, with a lot of focus on improving or enhancing the Super Duty's tech. That doesn't just mean a bigger touchscreen display. Some of the trick towing features originally found on the current F-150 have made their way to the heavy-duty models. For example, the new Pro Trailer Hitch Assist system can automatically back up the truck to a trailer with a ball hitch and position it right underneath, which makes hooking up a trailer without a spotter exponentially easier. There's also a system that allows you to input the size and weight of your trailer and the truck will let you know if your load is properly balanced based on the trailer's tongue weight. The truck can also weigh how much payload you've put in the bed and how close you are to the max rating.
This is a tough class of vehicles, with strong competition in the form of the Ram 3500 as well as the twins from GM, the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD and GMC Sierra 3500HD. All of these trucks are fairly close on specs and capabilities, with the class leader seemingly changing every time one of them decides to add a little more torque to their diesel engines. Ford's Super Duty lineup was already strong, but all of the changes for 2023 help making owning one even easier.
Which F-350 Super Duty does Edmunds recommend?
While the F-350 received some major changes for 2023, we still think the Lariat trim is the one to get. It has more standard features than the XL or XLT trim and is available with a wider array of options and configurations for not a ton more cash. That includes both extended- and crew-cab configurations as well as features like automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and a larger infotainment screen.

2023 Ford F-350 Super Duty models
The 2023 F-350 Super Duty is available in six trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited. Availability of bed and cab configurations varies by trim, but generally the F-350 is available in regular-cab, extended-cab (SuperCab) and crew-cab (SuperCrew) configurations paired with either a 6.75-foot or an 8-foot bed. Starting this year, four-wheel drive is standard on all but the base XL trim, though it can be optioned on that trim, too. Additionally, the F-350 is available with single rear wheels (SRW) or dual rear wheels (DRW). Keep reading for more information on the F-350's engines, standard features and major options.
The F-350 is available with gasoline and diesel-powered V8 engines. The base gasoline engine 6.8-liter V8 makes 400 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque, while the upsized 7.3-liter V8 makes 430 hp and 485 lb-ft. The turbocharged 6.7-liter diesel V8 is available in two versions. The standard one makes 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft, while a high-output variant cranks things up to 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. All engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic.
XL
The base F-350 Super Duty XL is fairly light on features, though the relatively no-frills feature list makes it great for work-truck duty. Standard equipment highlights include:
- 6.8-liter V8 engine
- 17-inch steel wheels
- Heated towing mirrors
- Vinyl floor covering and upholstery
- Power windows and door locks
- 8-inch infotainment display
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration (with wireless connectivity)
- Trailer hitch receiver and wire harness
- Trailer sway control
- Integrated trailer brake controller (allows adjustment of a trailer's brakes from the cab)
XLT
The XLT builds off the base XL's features, adding:
- 7.3-liter V8 engine
- Standard four-wheel drive
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Power-adjustable mirrors
- Carpeted floor and cloth upholstery
- Power-adjustable driver's seat
- Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
Lariat
The Lariat is only available as an extended-cab or crew-cab truck. It builds on the XLT's equipment with:
- LED headlights and LED bed lighting
- Power-folding and power-telescoping tow mirrors
- Rear parking sensors
- Remote start
- Keyless entry with push-button start
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Leather upholstery
- Power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation
- Heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Power-adjustable pedals
- Heated outboard rear seats
The Lariat also comes with these tech upgrades:
- Digital instrument cluster screen
- 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display with navigation
- Eight-speaker B&O audio system with subwoofer
- Wireless charging pad
- Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
- Rear automatic braking (applies the brakes automatically to avoid an imminent collision with an object behind the vehicle)
- Surround-view camera system (gives you a top-down view of the truck and its surroundings in tight parking situations)
King Ranch
The crew cab-only King Ranch adds a bit of Western flair to the F-350. It includes all Lariat features plus:
- 20-inch alloy wheels
- Power tailgate
- Power-deployable running boards
- Ambient interior lighting
- King Ranch-specific leather interior
- 18-speaker B&O audio system
- Head-up display
- Pro Power Onboard (2-kW charger for charging multiple phones, laptops or other small devices)
- Upgraded forward collision mitigation system
- Lane keeping assistance (steers the F-350 back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
- Adaptive cruise control (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front)
- Trailer backup assist (additional features to make installing and reversing a trailer easier)
- Payload weight monitor (On-Board Scales)
Platinum
The Platinum trim sits alongside the King Ranch but does without the latter's cowboy-esque styling. Features generally mirror those on the King Ranch. Changes include:
- Revised exterior trim and styling
- Platinum-specific leather interior
- Massaging front seats
Limited
The F-350 Limited is just about as close to a luxury pickup as you'll find these days. It builds off the Platinum trim with:
- Standard turbocharged diesel V8 engine
- Two-panel power sunroof
- Premium two-tone leather upholstery
- Synthetic suede headliner
- Carbon-fiber interior trim
Many features found on the upper trim levels are optional on the lower trims. Other upgrades, depending on which F-350 configuration you choose, include:
- FX4 Off-Road package
- Hill descent control
- Off-road shock absorbers
- Transfer case and fuel-tank skid plates
- Tremor Off-Road package
- Locking rear differential
- Front limited-slip differential
- Upgraded suspension with increased ride height
- 18-inch black wheels with off-road tires
- Skid plates
- Revised front air dam with better approach angles
- Off-road running boards
- Rock Crawl driving mode
- Trail Control off-road cruise control

2023 Ford F-350 Super Duty XL 4dr SuperCab LB (6.8L 8cyl 10A)
Ordered new 2023. Day after purchase noticed 3 holes in carpet behind drivers seat. was told that is the way they are built. absolutely ridiculous. 10 1/2 months and still not fixed. Paint has imperfections, dents in roof, DIRT in clear coat in many places .Still trying to get ford to fix. Horrible fit of passenger side door. Still not fixed. Plastic trim above drivers door looks like it … was installed with a ball peen hammer. Overall, very poor quality of paint and finish. Even worse customer service by both the dealership and Ford customer service. Worst vehicle I have ever purchased.
