2024 GMC Yukon XL

The Yukon XL is the largest SUV in GMC's lineup, slotting above the related but smaller Yukon and the midsize Acadia. The Yukon is based on the Chevrolet Tahoe, while the Yukon XL is very similar to the Suburban. The GMC models distinguish themselves from their Chevy brethren with a more luxurious interior and a handful of unique features. They represent a middle ground between the Chevrolets and the even more opulent and pricey Cadillac Escalade. For 2024, the Yukon XL returns largely unchanged, but it seems likely that the 2025 model year will bring a styling refresh and new features.

Besides the related Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade, there are only a few full-size SUVs to cross-shop against the 2024 GMC Yukon XL. The Jeep Wagoneer L is comparable in size, price and interior refinement but holds a big advantage when it comes to towing. The Ford Expedition Max can also tow more, but it's not nearly as luxurious inside, even in the top trims. For more luxury, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Lincoln Navigator are worth checking out, but they're more in line with the Cadillac Escalade's pricing.

Midsize SUVs are wildly popular for their three rows of seating, but in many cases, the rearmost seats are smaller and best left to small children. If you need to regularly transport adults in all rows, large SUVs such as the Yukon XL are a better fit as they can easily accommodate up to nine adults. Measuring 15 inches longer than the standard Yukon, the XL boasts 41.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which is more than 60% larger. Add in the XL's 7,800-pound tow rating and its off-road-capable model and this big GMC should handle anything you can throw at it.
