Overview

The 2026 Toyota Sequoia is the automaker's largest SUV. This is a three-row SUV with bold styling and substantial off-road capability — especially in rough-and-tumble TRD Pro trim. The Sequoia also separates itself from rival SUVs with its standard hybrid powertrain that provides strong power and good fuel economy. Though it's ultimately not as spacious as its rivals, the Sequoia leans on its other strengths to entice shoppers with large families.
Edmunds spotlight: The TRD Pro
The standout of all the Toyota Sequoia models is the TRD Pro. It looks the part of a serious off-roader with all-terrain tires and other visual tweaks, and it backs it up with extra hardware like big skid plates and a unique suspension setup. If you're interested in camping or otherwise getting outdoors with your large SUV, this is the best Sequoia version to do it in.
Competitors to consider
While the Sequoia occupies a unique space as a truck-based SUV with hybrid power, there are plenty of solid non-hybrid options to consider. The obvious choice is the Chevy Tahoe, which received a comprehensive tech update in 2025 and offers more passenger space than the Toyota. Additionally, Ford rolled out a new Expedition in 2025 with a much-improved interior and an off-road Tremor variant that competes against the mighty Sequoia TRD Pro.

Performance
Considering the off-road focus of this model, we were pleased with the way our Sequoia felt stable and secure when driving around turns. The light and accurate steering plus the responsive engine and transmission make it easy to hustle the Sequoia through everyday traffic. And if you do plan to venture off-road, know that the Sequoia TRD Pro is one of the more capable big SUVs around.
Comfort
The main thing holding the Sequoia back in this category is cabin noise. There's more noticeable road noise than in competing SUVs, and the powertrain gets pretty audible when you go hard on the throttle. We also noticed that the fans for the ventilated front seats can get pretty noisy. If you want a serene SUV, there are better choices.
Interior
Visibility is pretty good for a large SUV but it's not without its challenges. Even with the Sequoia's large windows and mirrors and boxy fenders, we were thankful to have the surround-view cameras to better gauge our proximity to objects that looked closer to our fenders than they were. Toyota even provides a convenient button to activate those cameras. Interior controls are pretty easy to figure out.
On the downside, the Sequoia isn't as spacious or accommodating for passengers as many other large SUVs. If you don't care about towing or maximizing off-road capability, we'd encourage you to check out the Toyota Grand Highlander for more passenger-friendly transport.
Technology
Where the Sequoia does excel, and probably this is the most important area, is advanced driver aids. The Sequoia's adaptive cruise control, for instance, reacts quickly to changes in traffic and accelerates and brakes smoothly. The lane keeping assistance also works well to keep the Sequoia within the lane boundaries if you start to drift.
Storage
Got small children? The captain's chairs in the second row have a ton of space to load car seats in and the LATCH anchors are very well exposed. However, the anchor depths are a bit shallow, and that can make it hard to cinch in a car seat base tightly enough. In the third row, there's a top tether anchor point for the middle seatback only and no LATCH bottom anchors in the third row either.
If there's any redeeming quality here, it's the Sequoia's substantial ability to tow up to 9,520 pounds when properly equipped. That's enough to pull most midsize trailers or boats, and maybe a few larger ones.
Fuel Economy
Value
Toyota's warranty coverage is pretty common for the class with three years/36,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and five years/60,000 miles for the powertrain. Hybrid components are covered for eight years/100,000 miles, and the hybrid battery for a generous 10 years/150,000 miles. The first two years of scheduled maintenance are also free.

2026 Toyota Sequoia trim level differences
[Editor's note: The following unofficial information is based on last year's Sequoia. We expect the 2026 model will have a similar lineup and we'll update this section once we have complete information.] The Toyota Sequoia is a three-row SUV available in six trim levels: SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, 1794 and Capstone. The Sequoia uses a turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 hybrid powertrain, which makes 437 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque and comes backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard on all trims except the TRD Pro, which is four-wheel-drive only. All others offer 4WD as an option. Feature highlights include the following:
Which Sequoia trim does Edmunds recommend?
Toyota hasn't released official information on the 2026 Sequoia as of this writing. We'll update our recommendation if anything changes, but based on last year's Sequoia, we suggest sticking with the entry-level SR5 trim. You'll get the same potent and economical hybrid powertrain as the other models, along with a long list of standard features. To that, we also recommend the optional SR5 Premium package that adds several upgrades for a very reasonable price.
