2026 Chevy Equinox

When it comes to simple, affordable SUVs, the Chevy Equinox is a tried-and-true favorite. After a full redesign last year, the 2026 Equinox will likely go mostly unchanged. But we’re OK with that, as the Equinox is one of the better choices in the class, with standouts that include a new tech suite, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a handsome exterior design.

Edmunds spotlight: Activ trim level

All Equinox models are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder, and though there aren't any powertrain alternatives, you do have options to make this compact crossover stand out from the crowd. To that end, Chevrolet offers the Equinox in the Activ trim level, which adds 17-inch all-terrain tires and a few cosmetic tweaks to make it look more rugged. SUVs that offer some level of off-road ability (or at least appear that way) are quite popular these days, and it's smart of Chevy to meet the trend head-on.

Competitors to consider

There's no shortage of strong choices if you're looking for a compact SUV. The Mazda CX-50 and Honda CR-V are two of Edmunds’ favorite models, while the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson are also popular. If you’re looking for hybrid power, all of these offer electrified versions that help save fuel, and the Kia Sportage Hybrid is a former Edmunds Top Rated winner.

The Equinox doesn't always get the attention it deserves, but Chevy made enough changes to keep this SUV competitive in a class full of competent alternatives.
