The 2025 Range Rover Sport has an impeccably tailored interior and great technology offerings. It's also at its best when equipped with the plug-in hybrid powertrain that provides 53 miles of all-electric range and rapid acceleration. But even compared to its rivals, the Range Rover is expensive.Read full review
Don't let the name fool you. Sure, the 2025 Range Rover Sport is a bit sportier than the slightly bigger, even more expensive regular Range Rover, but that's kind of like saying a three-piece suit is sportier than a tuxedo. Comfort, luxury and design are still the top priorities, albeit not to the same degree as with its big sib. If anything, "variety" would be a better name thanks to six powertrain offerings, including multiple V8 and plug-in hybrid models. The regular Range Rover can't match that, nor can most competitors.

We drove the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Driving experience
7.6/10
How does the Land Rover Range Rover Sport drive? The Range Rover Sport is available with a variety of powertrains, and our test vehicle was equipped with the P550 plug-in hybrid setup. This thing is quick. At the Edmunds test track, it accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. That's a full second quicker than the six-cylinder version we tested previously. The help from the electric motor smooths out acceleration around town too.
The Range Rover Sport rides smoothly over bumps and ruts. But, despite its name, the Range Rover Sport isn't really sporty or exciting to drive. It's more about being a comfortable and easy-to-drive luxury SUV. Visibility is excellent thanks to the big windows all around and an excellent surround-view camera system. We didn't experience any issues with the advanced driver aids in our testing.
Comfort
7.3/10
View interior photos
How comfortable is the Land Rover Range Rover Sport? There's a certain level of comfort expected from anything wearing this badge, and the latest Range Rover Sport partially delivers. The seats have excellent padding and decent support in both rows. It's generally quiet, too, with only a mild amount of wind and road noise entering the cabin. And the air suspension lowers to make it easier to get in and out or install a car seat. But the climate control system is a letdown with loud fans and air conditioning that shuts off when the engine's stop-start feature engages at stoplights.
In-cabin tech
8.4/10
How’s the tech? The infotainment system's graphics look great in both the touchscreen and the instrument cluster, underscoring the Land Rover's high-class aesthetic. It's pretty easy to use, though it doesn't have as many features or customizations as the latest systems from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Our test Range Rover Sport had five USB charging ports and a wireless charging pad. Wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration is standard, and it worked well in our time with the Range Rover Sport. There is an app to remotely start and unlock or lock the vehicle, but no digital key is offered. You can, however, add an activity key that's waterproof and fitted to a bracelet you can take wherever.
Storage & cargo
6.1/10
How’s storage and cargo? The Range Rover Sport offers 31.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. Drop the folding 40/20/40-split rear seats and the area opens up to 53 cubic feet. Those are midpack numbers for the class, with rivals from Mercedes and BMW offering more space in the rear. We do like the buttons to raise and lower the rear seats from the cargo area.
Storage up front isn't quite as good. While the center console is deep, the small opening limits what you can put inside. Also, the largest bin is below the sliding cupholders and can't be accessed without removing drinks. Seems like a bad design to us.
Towing tops out at 7,716 pounds, and a trailer assist system is offered that handles the steering while reversing.
Value
6.3/10
Is the Land Rover Range Rover Sport a good value? The Range Rover Sport is one of the most premium SUVs you'll find on sale today, but be prepared to pay for that luxury. The interior looks and feels better than most of the competition, with a clean design and lots of upscale materials for the trim on the dash, doors and center console. The leather upholstery is soft, and nothing you touch feels cheap. But Land Rover charges more for the Range Rover Sport than rivals from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and others. The plug-in hybrid powertrain is about $4,000 more than the base engine but still cheaper than the big V8. Land Rover includes a four-year/50,000-mile basic and powertrain warranty.
Electric range/MPG
6.7/10
How’s the fuel economy? While the PHEV powertrain doesn't greatly improve fuel economy (an EPA-estimated 22 mpg combined), the fact that you get a robust 53 miles of electric-only range helps to tilt the equation back somewhat in the Range Rover Sport's favor.
X factor
7/10
The third-generation Range Rover Sport looks and feels more like the full-size Range Rover than ever. The design is clean and buttoned-up rather than all in your face with a massive maw of a grille like other SUVs that are trying too hard. It also has a truly luxurious interior that is befitting of the SUV's price tag. The PHEV powertrain is an excellent addition to the lineup, providing added performance and smoother acceleration from a stop.

The P360 SE trim offers the highest percentage savings at about 10% off MSRP, making it a strong value choice.

2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport trim level differences
The 2025 Range Rover Sport is a five-passenger, two-row midsize SUV available in six trim levels, almost all of which align to a specific powertrain. The one exception is the P530, which is available as the Dynamic SE and Autobiography. Compare the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport trim levels in-depth.
Which Range Rover Sport trim does Edmunds recommend?
We had not tested the new P460e plug-in hybrid at the time of this writing, but its specs at least deserve a mention as a Range Rover Sport version we would seriously consider. As it is, though, we'd recommend the base P360 SE. It's equipped almost identically to the P400 Dynamic SE that costs about $7,000 more and its performance deficit is minimal (5.7 seconds versus 5.2 seconds, according to Land Rover's estimates). The "Dynamic" in the P400's name entirely refers to its style upgrades. Most features included on upper trims are even optional on the P360 SE.
Competitors to consider
If you're really looking for something sporty that's perhaps a plug-in hybrid, the Porsche Cayenne is your best bet. It too offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain and its performance is worthy of its Porsche badge. It's not as stylish or luxurious as the Range Rover Sport, but sampling from the extensive customization list can certainly close the gap. The Mercedes-Benz GLE is another good alternative. It offers multiple powertrains and can be optioned up to lavish standards. Finally, you might check out the all-electric Rivian R1S. It delivers plenty of modern style and technology along with helpful go-anywhere capability.
Edmunds spotlight: Hybrids of varying degree
Every Range Rover Sport is a hybrid, but it's important to note that there are different types of hybrids. The P360, P400, P530 and SV Edition are mild hybrids. Effectively, this means that an electric motor assists the gasoline engine to improve performance and fuel economy, but it cannot power the vehicle by itself and the efficiency gains are consequently nowhere close to what you'd get with a regular hybrid (think a Prius). Then there are the P460e and P550e plug-in hybrids, which have large batteries that can be plugged in to exclusively power the vehicle for extended distances as well as dramatically improve efficiency. They operate as regular hybrids once their all-electric range is depleted or you don't plug in.
The overall sentiment for the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is mixed. Owners love its smooth ride, stylish looks, and comfortable interior. Some owners have faced reliability issues and find the touch screen controls hard to use while driving. A few owners were disappointed with its electrical and software problems, and customer support was reported as poor in some cases.
