Overview

The Nissan Versa is one of the least expensive new cars you can buy. But that might not be the case for much longer, as recent reports suggest Nissan may discontinue the Versa after the 2025 model year. We're waiting on Nissan to make things official, but if there is a 2026 Nissan Versa, expect it to be a carbon copy of the 2025. The Versa is on the small side and its acceleration is sluggish, but it's well made and a perfectly fine car if you're looking to keep monthly payments low.
Edmunds spotlight: Is this the end of the Nissan Versa?
The Nissan Versa has long been a great value, and that value has become, well, even more valuable as other companies discontinue their budget-friendly small sedans. Few new vehicles start under $20,000, and the Versa is one of them. It doesn't spark excitement or a legion of diehard fans, but the Versa is a quality car with a low starting price, and the automotive world is better with the Versa in it. Unfortunately, there are reports that suggest that Nissan will discontinue the Versa after the 2025 model year.
Competitors to consider
The Versa is in a class all by itself as all automakers have given up on cheap subcompact sedans. The next least expensive cars are compact sedans, which have higher price tags but are more spacious and have nicely appointed interiors. Our recommendations include the Kia K4, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla.
Which Versa does Edmunds recommend?
Nissan hasn't released official information on the 2026 Versa as of this writing. If the Versa does end up on sale for 2026, the SV trim is still the one to get. While the base S trim is the most affordable, it's also the least equipped. The SV's extras, such as alloy wheels (replacing steel wheels with plastic hubcaps), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, make it worth the stretch.
