Lincoln put real effort into making the redesigned 2024 Nautilus feel special. The cabin is roomy and luxurious and the available hybrid powertrain gets high fuel economy. But the Nautilus flubs the fundamentals. A confounding control layout, odd driving position, and a potentially high price tag keep the Nautilus from being a highly rated luxury SUV.Read full review

2024 Lincoln Nautilus Review
Pros
- Roomy seating and cargo area
- Stylish design
- Available hybrid powertrain gets good mpg
Cons
- Distracting-to-use controls
- Lackluster acceleration and braking performance
What's new
- Redesigned for 2024
- Larger inside and out
- Massive 48-inch digital instrument panel
- Kicks off the second Nautilus generation
Overview

When Lincoln announced the end of production for the previous-generation Nautilus, we figured the eventual replacement would be electric. Instead, we get a new midsize two-row SUV with an available electrified hybrid powertrain and a standard technology suite to rival any competitor, gas or electric. But the unavoidable star of this show is the new digital instrument panel and display, measuring 48 inches and stretching all the way across the dash. Because 4 whole feet isn't quite big enough — actually, because it's tucked out of reach at the base of the windshield — that display is controlled by an easier-to-reach 11.1-inch touchscreen above the center console.

Edmunds spotlight: BlueCruise hands-free driving
Ford's BlueCruise — formerly branded AutoGlide on Lincoln vehicles — is standard on every 2024 Nautilus. The system allows for hands-free driving on most controlled-access highways in the U.S. so long as the cameras and sensors it relies on can see the lane markings and traffic around the Nautilus. A camera watches the driver to ensure the driver's eyes are on the road. The Nautilus will launch with BlueCruise 1.2, which automatically changes lanes in response to the driver activating a turn signal and will reposition the vehicle in its lane to maintain a comfortable buffer between the Lincoln and traffic in adjacent lanes. It's standard, but BlueCruise isn't free. After a 90-day trial period, Nautilus owners have to pay for a four-year service plan to keep the technology active unless they've chosen an option package that includes it. The service plan comes standard with the top-tier Nautilus Black Label.
Competitors to consider
The Nautilus competes in a class that is overflowing with excellent choices. Shoppers interested in traditional elegance would do well to check out the Mercedes-Benz GLC, while those looking for a more aggressive style might be interested in the Acura RDX. The Genesis GV70 offers an appealing balance of grace and athleticism and is available as an EV to boot — although you'll pay a premium for that version. Other SUVs worth a look include the Lexus RX and Volvo XC60.

We drove the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Performance
7/10
How does the Nautilus drive? Our test Nautilus came with the available hybrid powertrain. At low speeds, acceleration is quiet and smooth. But we were disappointed with the results at our test track. In our testing, it accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. That's noticeably slower than most other small luxury SUVs. Braking performance is also subpar. The Nautilus took longer to stop from 60 mph in our testing than rival SUVs, and the odd brake pedal feel made it hard to consistently stop smoothly. Around turns, the Lincoln leans excessively when you drive with some enthusiasm.
Comfort
8/10
How comfortable is the Nautilus? Our test vehicle had the available 24-way power-adjustable front seats. Having that many adjustments sounds great but they take a while to set up. Once you have them dialed in, they are pretty comfortable but not amazingly so. The climate control system has multiple Auto settings to get the cabin to your desired temperature quickly.
The Nautilus' ride quality is confoundingly too soft and too firm at the same time. It's squishy enough to cause extra body motions through a corner and it's too firm riding over bumps. Our test vehicle's large 22-inch wheels with skinny tire sidewalls probably didn't help with the latter. The good news is that this interior is extra quiet on the road.

There's more. The steering wheel controls have no labels so the only way you know what you're controlling is by looking at a random section of the forward display — otherwise it's a guessing game. Most drivers will need to drop the steering wheel down very low to see the speedometer, which results in an awkward driving position. This SUV is full of strange design choices that aren't complementary for easy driving.
The sole redeeming feature here is passenger space. Both rows of seats have excellent legroom and headroom. The Nautilus sits at a great height, making it easy to get in and out.

Technology
8/10
How’s the tech? Although the 48-inch display spanning the whole dash is a sight to behold, the Nautilus' tech is more showoff than functional. The system froze on us several times and often required a full reset to wake back up. On the upside, the available 28-speaker Revel audio system sounds great and the Google integration for maps and the voice assistant is helpful.
Lincoln's BlueCruise hands-free driving system is one of the most advanced in the industry today. In the Nautilus, operating BlueCruise is hard to figure out because of the unlabeled steering wheel buttons. But once it was up and running, we had great experiences in traffic with it activated.

Storage
8.5/10
How’s the storage? This is an area where the Nautilus shines compared to its competition. The cargo space is long and wide, offering 36.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats. That's plenty of room for multiple large suitcases. And if you need more space, the back row folds completely flat with a 60/40 split.
There's a clever storage area beneath the center console that is large enough to fit a purse. The door pockets can fit a good-size drink, too. For those needing to install a car seat, there are two LATCH points that sit below a leather cover that needs to be lifted to gain access. The rear anchor point is high up on the back of the seat and the doors open wide for easy in and out.

Fuel Economy
8/10
How’s the fuel economy? The EPA estimates the Nautilus with the hybrid powertrain will get 30 mpg in combined city/highway driving. (The regular gas engine gets 24 mpg combined.) We matched the EPA's estimate in our real-world testing. This is pretty good for a luxury, though the hybrid version of the Lexus RX is considerably better at 36 mpg combined.
Value
7.5/10
Is the Nautilus a good value? The Nautilus does have an impressive interior, especially when it comes to build quality. In the past, Lincoln products have felt too close to their Ford counterparts with cheaper materials. The Nautilus bucks that trend and feels well built inside. You do pay for it, though. The Black Label version, in particular, is quite pricey. Even with the 310-hp hybrid powertrain, the Nautilus isn't very compelling for the money.
Wildcard
7.5/10
There's an argument to be made that this is the best product from Lincoln in years. The Nautilus feels luxurious with an interior full of nice materials and a gorgeous exterior design. It does have a distinct personality with more flair than its competitors, but that also comes at a cost. The driving experience and ergonomics are big letdowns.
2024 Lincoln Nautilus trim level differences
The 2024 Lincoln Nautilus is a two-row luxury SUV available in three trim levels: Premiere, Reserve and Black Label. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque is standard in all three; it's paired with an eight-speed automatic. A hybrid setup based on the same turbocharged 2.0-liter is optional on every trim. It bumps output to 310 horsepower and uses a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). All-wheel drive is standard with both powertrains.
Which Nautilus trim does Edmunds recommend?
Fully loaded, the Nautilus gets pricey. But even the base trim boasts an impressive list of features, although we'd add the Premiere II package. The included four years of BlueCruise are worth more than half the cost of the upgrade, which means you're getting a bargain on the panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats and upgraded sound system.

2024 Lincoln Nautilus Premiere 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
Less than 1000 miles and it's into the shop. Radio didn't work and issues with phone hookup. They said it needed an update. At 4,000 miles, it's back to the shop. The vehicle drained the battery during the night. (4.8 volts). Again, it need another software update. On my way home, the smaller screen started flashing. Stay clear of this vehicle until all the software issues are … resolved. Perhaps 2025 or 2026. Love the vehicle, but it has too many electrical problems.
