- Significantly less power than rivals
- Lacks the "wow" factor of other luxury SUVs

- 2022 model kicks off the second NX generation
Overview
Shopping for a luxury SUV on the low end of the price scale can be tricky. You could select a subcompact SUV to better fit your budget, but these extra-small models often compromise on passenger and cargo space. Going up a size solves that problem but might strain your budget. There might be a solution, however: the 2022 Lexus NX 250. As long as you don't need the speediest SUV on the block, the new NX 250 could save you serious coin.
Cost to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2022 Lexus NX 250 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.50 per gallon for regular unleaded in Ohio.
Monthly estimates based on costs in Ohio

Avg. Midsize SUV
The redesigned 2022 NX is a small SUV akin to the Acura RDX and Mercedes-Benz GLC. This new NX 250 is the entry-level version and joins the more powerful NX 350 and two hybrids, the NX 350h and NX 450h+. The NX's model designations refer to what's under the hood. The NX 250 is the entry-level model and comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing a modest 203 horsepower.
This year's NX has a revamped cabin highlighted by a wide central display canted toward the driver. A 9.8-inch touchscreen is standard and can be upgraded to a 14-inch screen with a combination of virtual and physical controls for the climate system. This is a massive departure from other Lexus models, which usually are equipped with a central display mounted far from the driver and controlled by touchpad. The Lexus NX 250 also comes with a ton of helpful tech and driver-assist features.
Overall we think the NX 250 is a worthwhile choice for shoppers seeking a value-oriented small luxury SUV and who don't mind tempering their expectations for performance.
Which NX 250 does Edmunds recommend?
A long list of standard features makes the base NX 250 an excellent choice for value-conscious shoppers. It comes with a sizeable center touchscreen and a comprehensive suite of driver aids. Do also consider the NX 350 and NX 450h if you're left underwhelmed by the NX 250's power.

Electrical nightmare.
NY4life, 07/28/2022
2022 Lexus NX 250 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 8A)
Brand new Lexus NX250 with not even 400 miles is giving me issues already that the dealer doesn’t know what’s wrong with it. They were able to see that the car turned itself off in the computer logs, but couldn’t figure out why it would do that.
Three times this car has shut off in what seems like a malfunction at a traffic light. I’m not talking about the feature “Stop&start”, but the … car will actually COMPLETELY turn off at the light. The car will shut my music off, chime really loudly, message will pop up that engine stopped and to shift to P and that there is low power steering, and check engine light will come on. Also keep in mind, when this happens my car is still in drive, thus the car acts like it’s in neutral until I put it in park. When I shift to P and restart the engine, it will turn back up with no hesitation and the check engine light will go away.
Very disappointed.
On the bright side the car is very smooth, quiet, and feels very nice. It’s a shame that It’s giving such electrical issues at such low miles.

Mistake
Momomiss, 09/03/2022
2022 Lexus NX 250 Premium 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl 8A)
Standard features are lacking such as a power tailgate or beeping sound when backing up. Instead it has standard bothersome fancy push door handles to get out and standard no flat tires Ugh!!! Too many annoying safety features too. This purchase was a mistake for me. At least there are comfortable seats while I ride out this purchase before I can trade it in without taking too much of a … loss.

Safety Features

2022 Lexus NX 250 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 8A)
I am 77 years old and had Lexus UX 200 base model that had very good safety features. I upgraded to NX 250, 2022 base model hoping it will have all the features of UX 200 and more. Very disappointed that it does not have the basic safety features like rear cross traffic alert and automatic breaking. It does not have Rear Camera Detection RCD, Intuitive Parking Assist, Parking Support … Brakes PKSB, It does not have sensors to help parking and basic view on sides, front or rear to tell me if I am too close to an object in front, rear or sides. Very disappointed. I wish I had not blindly trusted Lexus name.

2022 Lexus NX 250 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 8A)
Just got this ‘22 NX250 Base 1-week ago and am loving it!
Comes standard with heated seats, a beautiful tan dual-tone interior, a beautiful touch screen display, active steering etc.
Only thing I wish it had standard is rear parking sensor, which I can deal with for the price
