2024 Lexus NX Hybrid

The 2024 Lexus NX is a small luxury SUV offering something for nearly everyone. There's an entry-level version that's inexpensively priced, a sporty version with a turbocharged engine, a hybrid for improved fuel economy, and even a plug-in hybrid. Each one boasts a classy cabin too. The NX doesn't stand out enough to be a top pick in its class, but it does everything well enough to deserve a spot on most shoppers' short lists.

The diverse NX lineup gives you lots of choice, but it does mean you'll have to spend some extra time deciding which one is best for you. When new, the hybrid, the NX 350h, costs about $2,500 more than the equivalent NX 250. For that you get an impressive EPA estimate of 39 mpg combined, which is a noticeable jump up from an equivalent non-hybrid's 28 mpg combined. However, the 250 runs on regular gas, while the 350h needs premium. It might take you more than a decade to recoup your money on fuel savings alone. However, there are still good reasons to get the hybrid or even the plug-in hybrid, such as quicker acceleration and reduced overall tailpipe emissions.

Many buyers in this class are looking for a little extra sport in their luxury SUVs. If there's one area in which the NX disappoints, this is it. The BMW X3 is a solid pick if you don't find the NX exciting enough to drive. Other recommendations for a small luxury SUV include the value-packed Acura RDX, well-rounded Genesis GV70 and luxurious Mercedes-Benz GLC. For all-around value, you'll likely be content with the standard NX 350 equipped with the available Premium package. It's one of the lesser-priced NX configurations but doesn't skimp out too much on appealing luxury features.
