  • New Car Purchase

    5 out of 5 starsby rickyt1234 on 12/26/2015

I recently purchased a 2015 Honda Civic and I could not be completely happy with my purchase. My sales person Steve was very patient and helpful and always answered my questions. I recently had previous issue in the past with purchasing a car at other dealers due to the fact of my age but Steve completely changed my perspective and treated me as an equal. The process was smooth and efficient and I left happy with my purchase. I love my new car and left a happy satisfied customer. Thanks Steve and Route 22 Honda. You guys are awesome. Thumbs up for the service department as well.

I'd like to give a special thanks to my sales person, Efrain Santiago for being extremely courteous with us during our purchase and providing us an exceptional customer service experience during our purchase. I can honestly say I will recommend anyone to purchase a vehicle from him with my eyes close because I have no doubts that they will be as pleased as I was. By the way, this is my second vehicle that I've purchased from Rt 22 Honda and if I were to need to buy another vehicle in the future, I will definately come back and purchase it from Efrain Santiago as well. Thanks again for such great, exceptional service.

I am very pleased with the Crosstour I've bought. Almost everyone looks at the car with admiration. It's a beautiful car, and I love driving it. I thank the salesman who took care of me, Yordany Tavarez for helping me with the car. Yordany showed me the car's technology, test drive, even showed me the way back home. He was very courteous and helpful. I also want to thank Ben for helping me with the right financing for the car. They were all very helpful and professional.

  • they dont know what is customer service

    2 out of 5 starsby jhid123 on 04/08/2015

It is the most disorganized dealership I ever seen. I never got online quote, only price over the phone. The price I paid was close enough. But it was three and a half hours (without road test) running back and forth to complete my paperwork and prepare the car. First time ever my temporary plates got expired before I got my registration. They all promise but no one returns my phone calls. I don't want to see them again.
  • Great Buying Experience

5 out of 5 starsby rayraypax on 01/13/2015

I had the best experience at Route 22 Honda in Hillside. The salesmen were friendly and not pushy with the attitude "if your only looking take a hike" which I experienced at other Honda dealerships. The salesman I worked with expressed interested in what I wanted compared to what he assumed I wanted. I didn't feel rushed or anything. I will definitely recommend my friends to this dealership. Go see Matt Blanchard.

  • DECIETFUL HONDA DEALERSHIP

1.7 out of 5 starsby dpmanzo on 09/12/2010

I found three Honda Odyssey vans's on Cars.com located at this dealership that I wanted to look at. I called about the minivans and talked with a girl there and asked her if the cars were still available. I asked her to "touch" cars and she put me on hold and came back saying that they were there. I explained to her I was driving 2 hours to come and look at these so I wanted to be sure that all three would be there. She assured me they would be there. Right away I put my wife and two in kids in the car, drove up from Philadelphia dealing with Sat traffic all the way, and 2 hours later we were there. I show the salesmen the three vans I found online, printed out from the internet, and he takes them and walks off... 15 min later the salesman comes out only to tell me out that NONE of the minivans were there and since you're here why don't you take a look at this one that is $2,000 more. What!? I told him he's got to be kidding me! I instantly requested the manager and after talking to him told me that obviously I hadn't read the disclaimer on the internet page which says they don't guarantee these cars to be in stock when you arrive (the internet site said nothing about that...still doesn't). Also, I called and talked with someone that morning, literally 2 1/2 prior who claimed she had "touched" the cars. (her name is Chicole, don't trust her if you call!) DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I received NO real apology or compensation for my 5 hour drive that day to their place due to their lies. This Honda Dealership should be closed down or entirely restaffed. I hope who ever reads this decides to go some place else...they don't deserve anyone's business.
    • I will I read this before I got my lease from them. They tacked on an extra $40 to my monthly bill. When I called Honda Financial, the lessor, the rep informed me that it was the amount on the paperwork the dealership sent. it has been 3 months and running, and have left multiple voicemails, and no call backs. I'm starting to consider filing a class action laswsuit, if I find enough people who'd like to join.

  • [violative content deleted] - I hate them for what they did

1 out of 5 starsby anandbabu on 08/31/2010

I got a mail from them Rt. 22 Honda about Cash for Clunkers. I knew that Cash for Clunkers was a government program, and it ended long time back. So, I emailed the dealer ship asking them about this letter, and here is the reply I got from them: *** This letter was sent to you from the government. We can apply that $4500 towards your purchase of a new vehicle. What time today can you stop by? To set up an appointment or for further information please give me a call at [violative content deleted]. Thank You Chicole Hedgebeth *** Now, I emailed other honda dealers to check what the catch was, and I was told, this is just a gimmick to get you to the dealer. So, I wrote: Thanks Chicole. With this, will you still match a price for a Honda Fit / Honda Insight from another Honda Dealer? The reply I got was: Yes I will match or better any deal you have from another dealer. Chicole Then I got several emails from Chicole asking me when I would like to stop by. Though I couldn't believe this offer, I thought of stopping by the dealer that Saturday. As one last attempt, I tried to call Chicole to check with her one more time, but I could only get to her voicemail. So I emailed her, giving her the details of my car that I want to trade IN and the offers I got for a FIT and Insight from other dealers. Here is the email I sent: **** Hi! Chicole, I called you yesterday evening, and left a message for you. Attached is the letter that I got. I have a 99 Camry with 189K miles, but runs great and still gives me 30+ miles per gallon. I wanted to check with you if you are going to truly honor the attached letter and apply $4500 as trade in if I purchase a new Honda Fit Sport Auto or Honda Insight EX from your dealership. Also, below are the best Out of Door Quotes I got so far: 2010 Honda FIT SPORT AUTO OTD Price: $18,322.65 + DMV (varies $114-$421) With the 4500 trade in, I am looking at roughly 18,322.65 - 4500 = 13,822.65 as the OOD price. 2010 Honda Insight EX OTD Price: $21,318.65 + DMV (varies $114-$421) With the 4500 trade in, I am looking at roughly 21,318.65 - 4500 = $16,818.65 Please let me know if my expectations are valid. **** She replies within couple of hours: Hi Anand, We will definelty honor your mailer. I just sold a car to a customer with the same mailer. What time today can you stop by? I wrote back to her: I want to come by now. I could be there in 1/2 hr. Let me know if that's ok. I got an immediate reply: Hi Anand, Great just ask for me when you get here. Do you know where we are located at? So, I went to the dealer, and asked her Chicole. One of the saleman said he can help me. I told him, I was suppose to meet Chicole, since I already spoke to her. He told me Chicole is an internet sales person, and he knows her and he works with her, so asked me what it was about. When I told him about the trade in, he said my car does not qualify for a that program. I told him I have exchanged emails with Chicole, and she said you will honor the letter. He bluntly said she doesn't know the details, your car should be a cetain model and give only 18 miles/gallon to qualify. I showed him the email I sent to Chicole detailing my car that I wanted to trade in to specifically check if I still qualify, and she had replied YES. He just plainly said I don't know what she was talking about, but your car does not qualify. I asked for the Manager, had to wait a bit, and got to talk to the manager and the same story. The manager points to a section in the letter that says you need to buy certain high end vehicles at MSRP to qualify for the $4500 trade-in. When I showed the emails I exchanged with Chicole, he said "Well the letter says you need to buy one of the high end vehicles at MSRP to qualify for this rebate". So, Chicole lied through her teeth about the $4500 trade-in offer, and it is probably a scheme by the dealer to just get the custo

  • one word - AVOID!!

1.5 out of 5 starsby intck on 08/21/2010

this is by far the worst honda dealer i have been to. first of all the prices on the site are misleading. they will add a whole lot of hidden fees once you are ready to pay up. Ofcourse you should NOT encourage such behavior by paying up, but it will waste a lot of your time! Secondly, they apply bait and switch tactics. the cars they show on their websites are just there to bait you. i went to the showroom checking for a personal vehicle and they kept on shoving a fleet vehicle down my throat! the sales staff is really rude and does not really care about the customer! inspite of telling three distinct times that please quote me the OTD(out of door price) the salesman tried to pull a fast one on me by quoting a lower price and when i was ready to buy, denied the fact that he was quoting OTD. they act all stupid just to make that extra buck. when you quote a price, the [violative content deleted] salesman will then go for a 15 minute walk pretending that hes really working on your quote. actually he is just dilly-dalling and then he will come back with some numbers on a piece of paper. THIS IS A TRICK!!!!!!!!!! Beware! if the salesman treats you like this, just walk out without saying a word! these guys deserve no better! these [violative content deleted] were quoting me a price for an 4 year old used car which came almost close to the price of the new car itself! when i pointed that out, the [violative content deleted] salesmen had the nerve to say then why dont you buy a new car from us. they just act stupid, irritate you with hidden fees and suck away your time! AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • HORRIBLE!!!!!

They are pleasasnt in the beginning, of course so that you can do business with them. Simply do not go to this dealer, it is a rip-off! Matt O'Donnell the finance representative was very unprofessional and nasty. I cannot believe they expect to get business with employees like that, unbelievable! The funny thing is it says it right on their paper that one of the fees is optional and they insist it is mandatory. BEWARE!!!!!! DO NOT EVEN ENTER THE BUILDING!!!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND SIMPLY STEAL YOUR MONEY!!!!!
  • Good experience

    4.6 out of 5 starsby vlad2277 on 10/07/2009

I had a pleasant experience at Rt. 22 Honda in Hillside, NJ. I found the car I needed on their website (Accord EX-L 2007). I liked the price so I decided to look at it and test drive it after work. As I work nearby I was by the dealership by 5 pm or so. The car I was looking for was right in front and it took no time for salesman to find the key. First surprise was that car price was some $3K above the rice on the internet, but, anyway, I decided to take it for a test drive before we start negotiating. I made a decision to buy it. So here we started. First thing I said that this car was much cheaper on the internet than what you are trying to sell me for... First response was that I probably was looking at the different car. Well, after I show him a printout with matching VIN number he said that this 3K discount applies for college students only. Great! So I said, let's assume that I'm a college student. Little to old and I forgot to shave that morning, but hey, it's never too late to study! To make long story short, two hours later (around 7 pm) he was able to drop the price to "internet level". Deal? Deal! Yes, one of the customers above mentioned that after your negotiation is over and you pay your deposit some magic $500 number shows up. This is exactly what happened! When I asked what this is all about I heard a whole bunch of stories about "extra charges that they must charge", "must have key security package", "can't avoid leather warranty" and so on... Hey, but who said that you can't negotiate that? Bottom line I paid internet advertised price plus $200 extra for those "magic surprise/can't avoid/buy or die" charges. Then I went upstairs to sign up finance contract... I thought negotiation is over. No way. It just started upstairs. I was offered "the best" finance package they could get for me! Which is over 9% APR and nothing is included. When I said "well, I want my deposit back and I'm out of here!" suddenly APR dropped to 6% and some warranty showed up... here we go! One hour later I got 4.9% APR and executive package. Yes, it costs more, but my APR went down almost 5%. So I'm actually paying same price monthly but I got that package which includes a lot of stuff, some of that stuff I used and it's great! Finally, if you have a trade in car (I had), make sure you get max price out of it. Have a KBB printouts... yeah they won't pay you KBB price, but do mention it. Show your printouts! Bottom line: DO SOME RESEARCH online before you show up there!!! Know what you are looking for!!! Have VIN numbers, printouts. Look for blemishes on the car or inside. A little bumper "invisible" scratch will save you a lot of money when negotiate! Walk away when you aren't happy and DO EXPECT that they will follow you and offer you better deal. When deal is done and there is something you are not happy with your car - make sure you have a warranty (in writing) that repairs will be made at no cost if your car is certified. Oh, I couldn't even figure out how their coffee machine work... I guess I was too excited about my car! It took about 4 hours for whole process and I drove away on my new car.
  • Not Too Bad

Purchase a Honda LX-P from Route 22 Honda on May 25th 09 (Memorial Day). I visited the dealer the day before since my wife was going to make the final decision and received a quote on the car in writing. I also left my number to see if the sales person would call back just to see how serious he was. He did called the next day and my wife and I arrived at the dealership at 10:30 AM. We did get the car however I was a little agitated on how long it took them to finally release the car. The sales person seemed to be very busy and the other sales associates seem to not care that we were there for most of the day. They tried to sell additional add-ons such as warranty etc but I decided on the mud flaps only. I had to negotiate intensely for them to get me a decent offer on my trade in. We finally left at 3:00 PM. The experience was not too bad but they may want to work on their timing and customer care. In a word though, the car sold itself.
  • Buyer Beware!

1.6 out of 5 starsby cartell on 02/03/2009

Firstly, my decision was based on the fact that my cousin worked there, so I figured what can go wrong? Well it all seemed fine at first although I entered the dealership in the morning and didn't leave with my car until about closing time. The real problem though was afterwards when I'd call to ask about several issues concerning my warranty. Whenever I'd call to ask for someone knowledgeable, I'd be transferred back and forth between receptionists who would aplolgize only to place me back in a queue that began the process all over again. I know that I should've had my warranty memorized to the letter, but when my transmission went on my 2003 Acura, I took it straight to the service department as it was around the time they had asked me to bring it in for a free checkup. When I asked them if I was still under warranty, they said no but that they would repair my vehicle for around $6,000. That was not an option, so I took it to Gibraltar Transmission (where they did a great job by the way) and only paid a little over $3,000. I later found out when I took it to an Acura dealer that I was still under warranty but that unfortunately they could not reimburse me for my repairs since it was not done by an authorized dealer. I was pretty upset but still not prompted to voice my opinions publicly. It was my last call to them that prompted me to write this review. I was calling to inquire about the package plan I purchased with the car that included fabric care, tire replacement, etc. I was placed in the aforementioned queue a few times and had to hang up and call back to ask for a Ron Davis in finance who would be able to answer any questions I might have. After I finally reached him, he instructed me to call back on Monday (It was a Sat.) during business hours so that he could help me. After I asked him if it was just not a simple matter of looking up my information on his computer, he told me to hang on only to be disconnected again. At this point I called back and asked to speak to a sales manager. Once again I'm placed in the queue. Finally I speak to a Gary who tells me that I need to speak with its Service Dept.on Monday while I can hear a voice whose I can only assume to be Ron Davis' in the background saying "I told him that." After our conversation I thank Gary and say "I didn't get your full name, Gary who?" to which he replies, "Yes It's Gary Who". After hear laughter in the background I again ask for his name to which he replies "Gary Angus" which at this point I figure may or may not be his real name. Well suffice to say, I won't be patronizing their establishment any time soon.
  • Horrible Experience

2 out of 5 starsby ghary on 11/11/2008

The salesmen was kind and straight forward, which I appreciate most from a salesmen. However, that is all I can say about my experience with Route 22 Honda that was positive. The Summary: - Salesmen was kind, but inexperienced: giving false information and was pushed around by other employees. - Showroom is a playground for rude, obnoxious employees who refuse to help customers - Cars in showroom are scratched up. One car needing whole new paint job - Employees left work early (about 20 minutes early), however they remained in the parking lot blasting music and dancing. Salesmen didn't have keys to get the car to deliver it but employees in parking lot wouldn't help ("off the clock" was the excuse). They even locked him out of the dealership. - CHECK THE NUMBERS every chance you get. They kept "making mistakes"; bumping up all the prices when lower other prices as negotiated The Long Story: The salesmen was kind and straight forward, which I appreciate most from a salesmen. However, that is all I can say about my experience with Route 22 Honda that was positive. The showroom was a playroom for employees. They were play fighting, yelling, laughing obnoxiously, ignoring other customers who were not being helped, and even used the customer lounge as their personal cafeteria. I had wanted a coffee, however the employees were blocking the machine and weren't kind enough to move out of the way. On the showroom was even a brand new black S2000. The paint had been destroyed by someone using a rough towel to clean it. It had scratches every where, even in the door jams. After seeing this I was adamant about seeing the car before I sign anything. However, I had to wait 2 hours for the salesmen to get the key from his manager to show me the car first. At this point I had decided to get my deposit back, however the cashier told she can't do that without the salesmen. So I waited about 2 minutes until he returned (almost good timing for him). He had showed me the car, it was clean no scratches, so we decided to go forward with the purchase (I am stupid, I should have walked out at this point or even before). Now came the annoying part, they kept changing up the numbers to hide extra commission for themselves. They refuse to explain some kind of extra warranty they force you to purchase for $699 although their documents say "optional" (Listed as "DI" on their dealer addendum sticker). He refused to remove it and would not sell the car without this. It covers items already covered under the Honda warranty. I was able to get them to lower the price on it but they would not remove it. The salesmen had also been promising 0.9% interest rate. I knew this wasn't possible because Honda is offering 1.9%. But my dumb-self went along for the ride (I know, I'm dumb). Once most of the paperwork was completed, now came time to get some insurance on the vehicle. Two salesmen got into a shouting match, in front of the offices, close enough to the showroom. I found it unprofessional times 2. The verbal argument about how a salesmen screwed over another, and how all the other employees stood around and watched. It took one finance manager to come from the other side of the building to tell those two employees to be quiet and take it outside or in the back where customers won't be witness to this. Then we were taken to the upstairs area where we would finalize everything and go over financing. After waiting for the finance people to get finished talking to each other for about 20 minutes, we were seated. Here we found out that it's 1.9% and he can't offer 0.9% but he could offer 0% if I take an extended warranty because according to him "Honda only offers 1 year warranty and the navigation isn't covered at all". However, that option as tempting as it was, was more wasteful, plus now I had been wondering what the other "DI" warranty was about. Three warranties on the car for the first 3 years? None of them would extend the warranty just over

I suggest that you avoid this dealer. I got an internet quote for a 2008 Accord EX-L with Nav and I confirmed that they did have one in stock in grey, When I got to the showroom, I noted that every car on the floor had a supplemental sticker on it boosting the price by $2-3,000 by dealer add-ons like paint protection (a wax job) etc. I should have followed my instincts and walked out. The sales manager [violative content deleted] passed me off to an associate who proceeded to drive me to a distant lot to pick out the promised car. Well, it wasn't there, in fact it wasn't anywhere! But he claimed to have a white one that I could have in another lot or he could "work" with the manager and get me a 2009 model. We went back to the show room and he asked for my car key so the appraiser could work up a price. When the proposed deal appeared i found that the appraiser low-balled the 2002 Accord by about $1000 and they tried to stuff the 2009 Accord with all kinds of dealer packs. I asked for my key back and they couldn't find it - but the salesman kept telling me what a "great" deal I was getting. It ended when I grabbed my key from the manager's hand and walked out. The whole thing was so bad it could have been a soap opera - this place is a rip-off, try someplace else - I did.
