Avoid them at all costs
by Dave on 04/15/2025I had an extremely disappointing experience with Toyota of Hackensack and would strongly caution anyone considering doing business with them. The process began with a salesman named Tim, who quickly passed me off to Kellen Tavarez for the… online portion of the car purchase. I was buying a 2019 Toyota Highlander and completed all the arrangements online, including submitting a down payment. When I arrived at the dealership to finalize the deal, Kellen handed me off to his supervisor, Michael. Michael asked me to sign a digital document on his screen, claiming it was simply to confirm the car purchase and to enroll in automatic payments that would supposedly reduce my interest rate. What I didn’t realize at the time—and wasn’t told—is that my digital signature was being used to sign additional documents, including one enrolling me in a warranty I explicitly did not agree to purchase. It wasn’t until later that I discovered part of my down payment had been redirected toward this unwanted warranty. When I tried to resolve the issue, I was repeatedly transferred from person to person, and eventually, my calls and emails were ignored altogether. Thankfully, I had recorded the interaction and captured images of the document I actually agreed to sign, which clearly showed no mention of the warranty. This dealership’s tactics are misleading at best and feel downright deceptive. I strongly urge others to think twice before trusting this dealership with your business. Their lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable.Worst experience w/ online sales. Shop elsewhere
by carbuyer on 04/20/2020Had the displeasure of being in contact with 4 different employees on one car that I was interested in. All interactions were electronically during this pandemic, while the dealership is only operating electronically through sales. A lack… of follow through from each one had caused me to lose out on a car that I had made known my interest to all of them. I was getting close to a deal with the Internet Sales Manager Jay Rim when the line of communication on his part suddenly went dead. I had contacted the dealership on a Thursday, was in touch with a sales rep and someone from Business Development, Mary Green. Both told me someone would get back to me and no one did. On Saturday, the Internet Sales Manager got in touch with me and the car at that point was still available. We had exchanged emails about particulars of the deal, and then all of a sudden no response. When I didnt hear back from him on Monday morning, I reached out to him in the afternoon and he told me that another deal had come in that morning that they were now looking at. By Wednesday the car was sold to someone else. When the dealership called me to tell me that they sold the car to someone else, they had tried to say that they had accepted on the car a week earlier. This was NOT TRUE, as with each of the employees that I was in contact the week before, they all said the car was still available. The Saturday prior I had exchanged several emails with Jay Rim working a deal for the car, so it was still in fact available. They only stopped working with me when "another offer" came in on Monday morning. I had felt like the dealership was operation more like an auction house. I had never purchased a car from this dealership before, so they have no loyalty as a buyer, I get that. But this is not what I expect from a Toyota dealership. When I asked for the General Manager's and Sales Manager's email addresses another employee Armando wouldn't provide it to me. Im just one person, they have plenty of positive reviews...but buyer beware is my advice based on my experience with several of their employees.Thank you Armando and the Hackensack Team
by Sgt_Rocha on 11/21/2016I am a disabled Marine Corps veteran. I wanted to purchase a vehicle for my wife and needed to find the perfect truck for the perfect price. After visiting multiple dealerships, and not finding a truck that satisfied what I wanted I called… Toyota of Hackensack. When I called I was greeted by Armando. Armando assured me that he would do everything in his power to get me a truck with everything I wanted for the best price, so I said ok and drove over to Hackensack. Upon arrival, Armando was awaiting my arrival and from the moment we shook hands Armando was ready to get to work. Armando was extremely knowledgable, patient, honest and had incredible customer service. Armando's professionalism was extremely impressive. Armando showed me all the trucks he had in stock and also what was available online. Armando answered ALL of my questions and even went above and beyond to inform me of all updates and promotions that were available. After reviewing all the options I found truck I wanted but the color I requested was not in stock. Armando told me not to worry and that he would make some calls to see if he could find the truck I wanted in the color I wanted. Within the hour, Armando found the color i requested and had it delivered to the dealership that evening! Within a a couple hours I had perfect Red Toyota Tacoma 2016 Limited! My wife LOVED her new truck. I couldn't be more thankful to Armando and the Hackensack team for their steadfast commitment to customer satisfaction. Armando, thank you so much! The Rocha family STRONGLY recommends Armando and Toyota of Hackensack! They will not let you down! -2ndLt and Sgt RochaNew Car Purchase

by kazuo on 09/06/2014I bought 2014 RAV4 Limited with technology option at Toyota of Hackensack. I got really good deal for my new car. Talk to Jay R. He will get you the best price with his boss, Mario, in Bergen county, NJ. I don't know about other sales… people there, but Jay will get you Toyota car you want at extremely competitive price. Some reviews may keep you from this dealer, but just try them. There was no hidden fee or surprise price increase. I am o glad that I went to Toyota of Hackensack. By the way their coffee maker is extraordinary.OUTSTANDING SALES STAFF
by Coco146 on 07/29/2014Unlike some of the reviews posted during 2013, I had an excellent sales experience at Toyota of Hackensack. It appears that things have changed at the dealership.. I was looking to trade in my 2002 Rav4 that needed major transmission work,… for a new Rav 4. On July 4, I visited a dealership 5 minutes from my home in Mahwah, I was given a price, no test drive and was told they would look at my old Rav, which was sitting in their service department, and get back to me with a trade in price.. Got a call back, on July 5, from the Sales Manager, he had not looked at my car yet. I called the salesman on July 9 and was told again that his Manager would call me back, and that they were going to discuss it that afternoon. I never heard from them, so several days later I got my car out of the service department and went to Toyota of Hackensack. Here I am a customer who needs to buy a car, but apparently the other dealership was not interested in making a sale. As a woman buying a car on her own the process can be intimidating. But I did my homework, knew exactly what I wanted, checked the going MSRP, dealer invoice prices, manufacturer's rebates, and what others were paying for the same car in my area, etc. Finding and going to the right dealer can make all the difference in the world. At Toyota of Hackensack, I had a wonderful sales experience. The Sales Manager, Michael P, immediately took me for a test drive, and in detail pointed out all the differences between my 2002 RAV and the features of the new one. We sat down and did some negotiation on price. He was soft spoken, I was treated with respect, no mind games, no hard sell tactics, no pressure to make an immediate decision. He then asked what could be done for our numbers to come closer, we agreed on a price and the deal was closed. He then turned me over to Sales Associate Ana M who helped with the rest of the transaction and with the other details. She offered to go over anything else that I might have questions about. While I was waiting, there was another woman there who bought a car on her own for her daughter she was all smiles as well. She came over to congratulate me and told me how happy she was with her purchase. I picked up my car the following day, was greeted by Michael and Ana, then introduced to Ozzie, the Financial Mgr. who had me sign all the paperwork. It was very evident that they all treated each other with the utmost respect, and that is reflected in the way they treat their customers. I regularly read reviews on line to help me make decisions on which products or brands to purchase and which businesses to frequent, but have never posted one of my own. Because of the excellent quality of service, respect and real caring that I received, I felt compelled to write this review. I would definitely recommend Toyota of Hackensack, and especially Michael and Ana when you are in the market for buying a Toyota.Buy a car? Be careful about deposit!
by tztruthteller on 08/27/2010It's an awful experience to get the refund. It took me two half day to get refund because I had to drive from NY to NJ. The agent told me that I could get my deposit refund from the manager. But when I went to the manager the other day, the… manager said I had to sign on the agent's original paper form which was locked in the file drawer at that moment. Then I had to come one more time a week later when the agent got back from vacation. The agent gave me refund without having me to sign anything. Be careful, if you are not 100% sure to buy a car, don't make deposit. Otherwise, troubles.Worst Ever! Stay Away! Wish I Had! unethical, unprofessional, inefficient

Sleazy salesman Alex. Who charged me an additional $500 because the car was Certified! Even more sleazy and dishonest money man James who first berated me trying to sell me an extended warranty that I didn't want. He then tried to trick me into signing the contract with the wrong interest rate. The deal was for a 3.7 percent and he made out the contract for 5.8 percent. When I caught the mistake he explaned that the payments would be the same! I guess he thought I was born yesterday! I should have walked out that moment but the car I was trading in was in very bad shape and I was determined to buy a car that day. He corrected his mistake... Oh, and then there is the Carfax, I kept asking to see it and they just kept stalling. Finally after all the paperwork was done it was given to me in the pile of papers one gets when they buy a car. Turns out the car had been in an accident. The sales Manager Belotti assured me that it was a minor accident and could not be a Certified Toyota if it was major damage. Then there were the tires. I had two flat tires within the first month of owning the car. Three out of the four tires were bald and would not pass NY State Inspection. So I had to replace them. To his credit, Manager Belotti reimbursed me for the tires and also refunded me the $500 that his salesman screwed me for. Do yourself a favor and do not do business with this dealership. Warn your friends and family!
Horrendous Customer Relations
by skf2002 on 12/06/2008I purchased a 2008 Toyota Highlander from Toyota of Hackensack. This car has been back to the dealership in the past year more for defects rather than regular services. The final straw was what happened on 12/2/08. While double parked in… Manhattan, NY, I had the car in auxillary mode with the radio on for a few minutes and when I attempted to restart the car, there was no response. I had to have the car towed to the nearest toyota dealership and in order for the tow truck driver to get it on the flat bed, he had to open the gear box to get the car in gear. I had the car towed to a dealership in NY. When I got the car back, it was explained to me that they had to replace the main fuse due to an improper battery boost. However, it couldn't be determined why the car wouldn't start in the first place with the key. I called Toyota of Hackensack, to discuss the options of replacing the car being that I feel that my car has a undiagnosed defect or bringing the car in for a complete diagnostic to determine the cause of why a new car failed to start and to prevent the issue from re-occuring. I spoke with Sean, the Customer Service Manager and I was astounded by his demeaning, mocking, and unprofessional tone. In our conversation, he basically told me that there was nothing that the dealership could do. In this same conversation, I outlined all the defective problems with the car. He boldly told me to file a lemon law complaint with New Jersey's Attorney General's Office. This is my second toyota and I can say that I will never recommend Toyota and I will never buy another Toyota.Sorry but it appears you know very little about cars.
The same thing happened again on 1/8/09.the car wouldn't restart. I had it towed to a dealership and toyota's New York Headquarters told the dealership not to give me back the car until they sent their own field technician to check it out. The technician pulled apart the electrical system and found out that there were two alarm systems on the car.the second alarm was tied into the same circuit as the main fuse. I was totally astounded because when I bought the car, I was told by the finance director at Hackensack Toyota that there was no alarm system on the car and I agreed to purchase an off the market system from them for $575. Hackensack agreeed to remove and refund the $575 and reimburse me for towing fees. Well weeks went by and I was notified that if i wanted a refund, I would have to sign a release that absolves the dealership of any liability if there any long term damages. I didn't sign the release and I didn't get my refund. Recently, I had to take the car back to the dealership because there was a leak which was caused by a clog in the AC drain. The entire cabin floor was saturated. Toyota agreed to replace the carpet in the car( which had to be shipped into the country). I have asked Toyota to replace this car being that there has been so many problems with it but they refused. They claim that it isn't their policy to replace cars but they will repair defects under warranty. This has been a learning experience. This is my second toyota and I know that I will never purchase another one after this horrible experience.
You are correct "Toyotaexpert." I don't don't know a lot about car however, it doesn't take an expert after reading about the problem that I had (after the second a/c leak, I got rid of it) with the highlander that for a new car that there were too many problems. Clearly, you are an expert of crap which is what Toyota has been selling to consumers over the last few years.
Toyota of Hackensack - great place to do business
by czarczarina on 09/01/2008Although skeptical at first at the great price, we are very happy with our 2009 Toyota Tacoma. Two previous dealerships did not leave us with good feelings. When we returned to Hackensack Toyota we were greeted warmly, like old friends.… The friendly staff we met included Lorena - the Internet Manager - Dario Jimenez, Michael Park, and Augie Valente. Michael Park was the salesman, and he knows Toyota trucks, and probably every other Toyota vehicle. He was competent and knowledgeable about the vehicle we purchased and explained all of the features before we drove out. He was patient, answered all questions, and made the new purchase experience a pleasure. Augie Valente is the finance and insurance person, and he knows what he's doing. He recommended a particular extended warranty, and when I went online to check it out, I realized he was absolutely correct. And he gave us a huge discount off the suggested retail price of the extended warranty (yes, that's negotiable too). And he didn't try to sell us other unnecessary things. The financing was a breeze with a very low interest rate of 2.9% with Toyota Financial Services, which I did not find on the Edmunds.com website. A very good experience.Worst dealership ever experienced!!
by bigupintl on 08/10/2008I am dealing with 4 different TOYOTA dealers in Northern NJ and this one is the worst ever I experienced. I know all the dealerships are expensive anyway so that they should treat customer as royal as any other service especially where… purchase was made. But, this dealer is really different, they tried to make me down in many ways, not only their attitude but also treatment, especially which was my case for the repair of TSB issue as TOYOTA already notified all the dealership. So, it should be no argument with customer for replacement the parts. But, they argued in the beginning when I show them a copy of TSB I printed out, then after 2 hours diagnosis, they admitted there was A TSB issued by TOYOTA and need to replacement which supposed to be, so they promised to order the parts, then 2 weeks after, they called me and finally declined my service because I complained TOYOTA HQ for their treatment. Can you believe this non-sense? They do not serve customer in the name of TOYOTA at all. They even hung up on me in the middle of the conversation. By the way, afterwhile, I went to another dealer for the same repair and it was so smooth and got repaired without any question they asked. Be carefull!Customer Beware - Inspect your car before leaving dealership every time!
by davisdo on 04/21/2008II have owned new cars for over 30 years and never had a complaint about a dealership till last week. I brought my 2008 Scion xB into the dealership on a Friday for 15,000 mile service as most new car owners do and the next day noticed a… hole in my bumper. It looked as though someone had backed my car into something. I called the dealership up on Monday morning to complain about the whole and they basically did not want to hear my story. I was immediately told by their service manager Sean to have my insurance company contact theirs. No apology, nor did they want to even see what was done. They did not want to hear about it. I was amazed; I called back and asked to talk to the GM or sales manager. I was told by the switchboard that I should talk to the service manager. I told the lady that I had just talked to the service manager and did not like his response. She said I'm sorry but he is the man to talk to. I was furious so I called the Scion 800 number and told them about the incident. They were shocked also but told me the car dealerships were independent and handles things their own way. I talked to my insurance company and they told me to get an incident number. But since I did not report this to Scion when I was picking up my car the service manager did not open an incident report. I guess I was wrong about car dealerships. I now know that every time I leave the dealership I need to walk around the car to see if anything had been damaged. I have not done that before in 30 years but guess I have to start doing that now. I will never buy a Scion again and will definitely not give Toyota of Hackensack any more business. And why are you not taking the dealer to Court?

by massimospinato on 01/29/2013updated 06/06/2025Keep in mind, that I am a returning customer. I leased a Toyota Corolla LE for 3 years form Toyota of Hackensack. Three months before my lease was up, dealerships started to call me, send me emails and mail to get me into the showroom in… order for them to gain my business and one of them was Toyota of Hackensack. They called me and said if I would like to come in and see if they can get me into a new lease. I accepted, and asked them what kind of offers they had. They said they were willing to work with me over the phone since my hours were all over the place. They said to get me into the same car, Toyota Corolla LE, only a newer year, 2013, I would have to put down $2,500 and $169/month. I was shocked. Since when I first went to this dealership, I put down $2,500 and $145/month. I said what happened to being a returning customer...They said well these are new cares and this is the best we can do. Meanwhile, I got offers for Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Ford Fusion, which are bigger cars and could be compared to a Toyota Camry for $2,300 and $160/month. When I shared this information with one of the sales reps that called me, he replies by telling me he has friends there and that there are no such offers out there. So, I replied by asking him, if he thinks I am making this up...he says people do strange things. So, I took the offers and faxed it to them. I have not heard back. Now, different sales reps kept on calling to no resolve. These people have lost 3 families and a total of 6 cars as customers. Good luck! When you go there I wish you all the best! [non-permissible content removed] Whatever happened to customer service and some respect?!?!?! I guess they have no clue.Terrible - save your time
by jig789 on 10/14/2013updated 06/06/2025My wife went to check out a new car. The salesman spent about an hour and a half with her over 2 days. When she asked for a price he told her he would prefer to deal with her husband! When I called him he would not give me a price over the… phone. I told him every other dealership gave me a price and that my wife only went to this dealership so he should know we are serious buyers. He insisted that I come into the dealership and that he has never lost a deal on price. He finally gave me a price that was $2,000 higher than the average price I received from 5 other dealers. I told him unless he gave me a better price I will not come in. He again stated he never lost a deal on price. I told him he just did.Toyota of Hackensack
by ravraver on 03/10/2011updated 06/06/2025When I was researching cars and dealers (mostly on Edmunds) prior to actually buying a car, all the dealers in my area had pretty poor reviews. I went to Toyota of Hackensack based on prior experience, and was even more impressed than… before. We were treated respectfully and professionally throughout the process. I think the price we got was fair. (They are not there to give cars away, but these days its easy to research out the door prices). It occurred to me that people are probably far more likely to take the time to write a review if they have a gripe, rather than praise for a dealer. Maybe we just got lucky and got a good salesman (Jimmy D.). If you know what you want and do your homework, you could do far worse than Toyota of Hackensack. Overall the best car buying experience I have had.Worst ever, Stay away
by maj5450 on 03/18/2012updated 06/06/2025This dealership was the worst experience I have ever had.I have bought 7 cars in my life. If you want a toyota. Go to Haltermans, where they care about the quality of their service, your time and professionalism.Highly Recommended
by kmichaels4110 on 10/17/2011updated 06/06/2025Toyota of Hackensack had me driving off in a 2011 Toyota Prius less than 48hrs after submitting a request for a quote. After speaking with me on the phone, the Internet sales manager emailed me a quote for a vehicle that matched what I was… looking for. I met with him the next morning for a test drive, and he then patiently explained all the features of the vehicle. He also walked me through all of the paperwork and I was on my way in my new Prius. I am a very satisfied customer and I highly recommend this dealership.
