Lease Buyout now under water
by Tabbyjo on 07/24/2016I bought out my 2012 Toyota Camry lease and I'm not sure why but now my car is under water.. I had a great sales person but they should have work with me so this issue didn't happen.. The value of the car is almost 5000 dollars below what… it's worth!!! Sales staff pushed very hard for the buy out of this car, is this why ? Car below value????? Not happy at all.....Smooth transaction

by Sienna2016 on 03/31/2016I purchased my 2016 Toyota Sienna LE through Costco car buying program. Michael from Manhatten Toyota called me and offered a price that was $100 lower than another offer that i had received online. So i arranged to meet with him the next… day. Having Michael as my sales rep made the experience great because he walked me through the entire process. Before the test drive, he explained all the features included in the Sienna and the changes made from the 2015 model. Not once did I felt he tried to BS me in something that he wasn't sure about. I appreciate that he provided status of when the car would be ready as I had my toddler son with me. I drove away in the new Sienna in less than 3 hours from the time I walked in. Before driving away, Michael asked if i needed help with anything. So i asked him how to link my phone to the Bluetooth feature of the Sienna. I was thrilled at how smooth and quick the buying process went all thanks to Michael.Hello, Congratulations on your new Toyota Sienna! I do hope you and your son are enjoying the vehicle. It is a pleasure to read that the Sales Professional at Manhattan Beach Toyota was able to help and answer all your questions. If anything else should come to your mind, please do not hesitate to ask Michael or call the dealership at (310) 546-4848. Thank you for visiting Manhattan Beach Toyota! Sincerely, Andrisa D. by tripplep on 07/13/2008Sunday 7/13, Toyota of Manhattan Beach dealership posted commercial for Toyota Camry LE $18,995 in LA Times Cars section. Being an attractive deal, we drove down and made our intentions very clear from the beginning and agreed with the… dealership that we were interested ONLY if the selling price is as advertised. We test drove two Camrys before we finally agreed to buy one. After filling some paper work we were finally told the 2 car we drove were not part of the deal and there was a 3rd car (the color they knew we did not like). This pissed us off, as we had spent 3 hours test driving and discussing talking before we agreed on the car. There was never a hint of price being other then the one advertised. And to make the matters worse, they told us to LEAVE!! (Point-blank). I've no clue till now why. I was also told that they will not return our paper work that had all my personal information, because we test drove THEIR car. I had to raise my voice and vehemently demand for the paper work before I was finally returned. I was in a state of shock after this entire experience. I was never provided with a reason nor could myself think of one, for the way I got treated. Not that I'm not familiar with car dealers tactics but this was a dis-heartening practice I had witnessed. Was it racially motivated or what? :) no idea. I what to report them but don't know where? People involved were Mario & Don (Unfortunately, I don't others who were involved) There are lots of car-dealers in LA, I would avoid them if possible. They proved to be waste to my time & energy.Much has changed since your experience. Now that John Elway has placed his name and reputation on the dealership, it has become a kinder - more respectful place. All of the managers have been replaced and the 2 sales associates you encountered are no longer with the company. Our motto, "We Insist on Excellence" is taken very seriously insuring you will be treated with the respect you deserve.
Overall pleasant sales experience
by eicklerr on 04/22/2008My wife and I recently purchased a Highlander Hybrid from Manhattan Beach Toyota through the fleet/internet sales manager, Andrew Aragon. Aside from the fact that we didn't get the vehicle that we had originally set out to purchase, we… were very happy with the overall experience. Andrew worked with us to find different variations of the car we were looking for (different colors, options, etc), but never tried to pressure us into buying something that we didn't want. Ultimately we decided to just spend the extra money for the limited (which we now feel was a great decision - you get so much more for a "few" grand extra). Even though we upgraded to the Limited, we found the price (which was comparable to the Edmunds.com TMV) we got to be fair (although it can always be better). Unlike the other sales associates who hang out by the door using ridiculous one liners to try and get your business, Andrew was very personable and honest. I can't speak to the experience of buying a car the "normal" way, but I would recommend purchasing a car through Andrew at Manhattan Beach Toyota.dishonest tactic
by timmy_sp on 01/30/2008hate this dealership now...dealt w/ the internet sales guy, Mario Rodriguez...he told me he would knock off $200 from the lowest price I've gotten so far from other dealership. Then when the car got on the lot, he gave me a $500 higher… then the quote he gave me because there was an extra package that only costed an extra $176...so he jacked up the price to make his big commission. Watch out with this dealership! they'll probably give you a quote but then change their mind right when you walk in the door or even when the available car gets on the lot. I plain out told him that he should go and try to sell it to the next person then because I don't want to deal with dishonest dealers. And don't even believe what they say on their testimonials section...anybody can make that up and just post that stuff up there. sheesh.... you'll be a sucker to deal with these guys... If i can give them no star, that's what i would rate these guys...Sunday 7/13, Toyota of Manhattan Beach dealership posted commercial for Toyota Camry LE $18,995 in LA Times Cars section. I'm changing my view on this dealer...after I wrote this review, the dealer apologized and said he'll honor the deal. I actually went the next day and he did honor the deal and we bought the car. so it was good that the salesman honor the deal and gave me a better image of this dealership. they even offer a year's worth of car washes and oil changes if you buy a car from them. not bad... I live like 30 miles from the dealership, but i would drive that far to get an oil change..not sure about the car wash. hahaha
So Much has changed. Since we have changed ownership to a John Elway dealer, every manager has been replaced to reflect his philosophy and the new sales manager has weeded out every sales associate who could not or would not live up to our new standards. In fact, for 2009, we are rated #1 in customer satisfaction in District 2 are in the top 10% of the nation!!! Change comes hard, but you'll find John Elway's Manhattan Beach Toyota is a gentleman's dealership where you will be treated with the respect and honesty you deserve.
Bait and Switch [non-permissible content removed]
by anna40 on 01/02/2014updated 06/01/2025Do NOT go to this Toyota. Just went in to get a 2014 Highlander. The salesman, Eric, promised to give us $2700 off a car we could get sent to the lot. Then he offered us a great deal to take a higher model car on the lot. We happily agreed,… started filling out the paper work, then Eric comes back and says he can no longer do that deal, and added $1500 onto the price. We were upset, but agreed to go up $800. He said no. Then we said ok, we'll just go with your first offer for $2700 off one that you need to bring to the lot, and he said, nope that's no longer available. We walked out. It's a bait and switch game that was so schiesty it was sickening. They represent the epitome of all things negative about car salesmen. We headed to South Bay Toyota in Gardena, found the exact same higher end model and told them the deal we originally were offered and if they could match it we would buy the car. No problem deal done. With so many Toyota Dealerships in Los Angeles, don't waste your time at Manhattan Beach Toyota. They are horrible!Dear Anna, Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Obviously its our intention to secure a vehicle for you at a price that works for you. I apologize to you that you did not find your new vehicle at our dealership. If you would like to discuss this issue further, please call me at (310) 546-4848 and I would be happy to help you in any way I can. Sincerely, Joy Anderson Customer Relations Manager Manhattan Beach Toyota (310) 546-4848
STRESS FREE Thanks to Gabe
by rs2mil13 on 07/29/2013updated 06/01/2025Manhattan Beach Toyota, internet sales team go the extra mile; purchase experience was stress free thanks to Gabe. This is our third family Toyota purchase, two purchased at MB Toyota, within last decade. I decided to visit two other… dealerships and experiences were terrible. 1st dealership was not to happy that i had my own financing...left me on sales floor alone. 2nd dealership did not have Camry and pushed to purchase Nissan Altima. Due to my busy schedule, Initial MB contact was via internet and was given prompt attention. Pressure was never an issue, and always received quick responses, via text and email. Within several months, I finally was able to decide and contacted sales team. The sales rep was not avail, however; a team member Mr. L. advised he would assist in absence. Detailed desc.l of vehicle needed was given and he worked with me to check inventory. Online link was sent as well with Camry specs. I advised i would review and contact when ready to purchase. At that time Mr. L. advised Gabe would contact me to proceed, when ready. I contacted Gabe and discussed necessary docs and process. After speaking with Gabe, My visit to MB Toyota was very comfortable, Floor sales associate approached and paged Gabe, to meet with me. Gabe was very patient and did not turn away any of my suggestions and or questions. He was able to provide suggestions and options to help me decide and stay with in my Budget. Next was Finance, Miss Sarah was thorough and was able to work with me to update my contract due to insurance coverage. I am excited to see if Service is just as great as sales, to rate MB toyota the best So. Bay. dealer!Dear rs2mil13, Congratulations on your second purchase from Manhattan Beach Toyota! I am so pleased to read that you are a repeat customer who has been very satisfied with the service you received from Gabriel Romero and Sarah Choi. Thank you for your recommendation of Manhattan Beach Toyota. The entire team here insists on excellence and really wants to help the customer to the best of our abilities. Our guests are our priority and we certainly hope you contact us for any other Toyota or Scion purchases in the future. If you have any questions about the services we offer, please call me at (310) 546-4848. Sincerely, Joy Anderson Customer Relations Manager Manhattan Beach Toyota Scion (310) 546-4848
bad group at mb toyota
by cardreamer3 on 01/15/2013updated 06/01/2025Hello, i have delt with mb toyota since 2009 and i stoppped donign so recently, the internet dept and the mgr there are sneak bad car guys, bait and switch etc, they give you an internet price and then when you get there it all changes, i… reported them to the bbb and they are investigating next month, Brad i think is the mgr or something there, hes like a 15 year old that doesnt know what hes doing, and i ahd two sales reps, both were stuck up, dont go to mb toyota internet dept if you want a good deal!!! go to dch gardena where i bought and there great! thanks mtExtremely dodgy and unprofessional
by rockurchin on 12/22/2011updated 06/01/2025No car, several hours and 1 credit check wasted. After running our credit checks dealer couldn't actually find car I drove a day previously and that he claimed he was taking stickers off when we called to accept the price. Then tried to… give us a different color we didn't ask for as that's what the manager had written up for us, apparently by mistake. He then dragged us round a cold dark lot trying to find a car, then claimed he couldn't just go find car and drive it up front as his licence was suspended and he'd cried to his manager to not get fired just before Christmas! He then admitted to driving illegally when called out for previous claims he was picking his family up when we called earlier in the day. Then he tried to make us take a cheaper car we didn't want because he couldn't find our car. Oh, all this after running numbers on different and higher quote than one agreed to, with unwanted alarm thrown in too..but the other dealer did that too so I assume that is part of the Toyota training. After wasting several hours of our time we had to walk away. Shockingly bad service and extremely unprofessional all round. Even if they could eventually find the car at the price agreed I would not give these people my money now.Dear Rockurchin,

On behalf of John Elways Manhattan Beach Toyota, I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience and apologize for the service you received. Thanks for the great service
by stacyisok on 10/25/2011updated 06/01/2025I would like to say that this was truly a wonderful buying experience. I needed to purchase a vehicle for my daughter, as she is getting ready to go to school and decided to go to my local Toyota store. I was very pleased with the service… and also the professionalism that I was given by Ismail and his Manager Brad Sperber. The two of them made it a wonderful experience and I will defiantly recommend Manhattan Beach Toyota to my friends. Thanks for the great service and keep it up.Worlds Greatest Experience
by oxbig on 04/11/2011updated 06/01/2025Excellent salesmanship! I highly recommend John Elways Manhattan Beach Toyota!! I came to the dealership to purchase a new Toyota Prius and was greeted by Dennis Paz. I told him I was just researching and starting my car-buying… experience. He told me that was no problem and allowed me to drive the Prius. He answered all of my questions, and was very informative. At the end of the day he introduced me to his Manager, Brad Sperber. Both of them helped me and gave me true and honest numbers for the Prius and my trade. I went home and talked to my wife and we came to the conclusion that the Prius was the vehicle for us. I called Brad who helped me with a couple more questions and then had Dennis get the Prius ready, took some of my info over the phone so all paperwork was ready and waiting for both my wife and I to finish. This was truly and enjoyable car-buying experience and I really appreciate the honesty and integrity that I received from John Elways Manhattan Beach Toyota.Dishonest Quote- Manhattan Beach Toyota
by buyer007 on 01/23/2011updated 06/01/2025Referred by Edmunds.com to Manhattan Beach Toyota for an internet quote on a new 2011 Camery LE V6. Obtained an internet quote from their Fleet/Internet Director Bill Leyva via email. He quoted me a very very good and hard to belief price,… much lower than anyone else. Multiple emails were sent to him to confirm that there were no miscommunications and the quote was indeed for a 2011 Camery LE V6. No response from him via email. When I reached him over the phone, he stated that he had been having computer issues. Over the phone, he confirmed that the quote was correct for a V6. Appointment was scheduled for the car pick up. I requested the VIN from him, informing him I needed that to register the car for insurance. Rec'd the VIN via email and ran it over Google. Turns out the VIN was a 4 cylinder. This is totally unethical behavior from one of your referred dealer. When I confronted Bill Leyva with this fact, he claimed he just made a mistake. It is difficult for me to belief that a Fleet and Internet Director CANNOT tell the difference between a 4 and 6 cylinder!! It is more likely he will attempt a switch once we have arrived for our pick up appointment. I had brought Mercedes S430, S550, C350, and Lexus SUV all via the internet without any issues. They all honored the price they quoted. I am really disappointed that Edmunds referred me to this type of dishonest dealer. I would have rated the dealer no star, but this is not an option. This is what buying a new car should be like
by bren_lvn on 08/08/2013updated 06/01/2025Test drive went great, we liked the Camry SE but needed a day to think it over. The head of sales sat with us and made their best & final offer, which we reluctantly turned down to allow ourselves the cooling off period. They were… absolutely fine with that, and I very much appreciated the low-key sales pitch and their graciousness in allowing us to think it over -- which we did for exactly twelve hours, returning to close the deal and drive away with the SE the next day. Major props to manager Noel, our phenomenally-well-informed salesman Dana, low-pressure John and finance-guy Nate. This was my first new car purchase, and these folks seem really clear on the importance of building goodwill over the long term. (We were VERY happy with the numbers, ymmv.) Here's what we didn't get: Bait and switch, pressure to buy above our means, someone crowding our space while we wandered the lot, deceptions and hidden costs at signing, smarminess of any kind; Free popcorn and a pet adoption event (?) were as rough as it got. Two years of free maintenance, seven years of car washes, business cards with cell numbers that actually answer in the off-hours. I've always been against buying new, but we came to Toyota after three years of repair hell with a Saab. A new Camry puts the maintenance question out of mind for the next decade -- I like that! And the ride is great.Dear bren-Ivn, Thank you for the kind review on Edmunds. I do hope youre enjoying your new vehicle! We know you have many dealerships to choose from and we are honored that you have chosen us as the place to buy your car. If you would like to know more about the services we offer or if you have questions about your vehicle, please let us know how we can help. Wed even love to help you schedule your first oil change with our Service Department! Sincerely, Joy Anderson Customer Relations Manager Manhattan Beach Toyota Scion (310) 546-4848
False Sales Pitch
by 310losangeles on 06/14/2013updated 06/01/2025Don't buy from here at all. We were given a price for a car, when we got to the finance department, we were told that our payment was higher because of where we live. The sales person knew exactly where we lived and told us that the price… quote was it. I was also told that my insurance company wouldn't cover GAP insurance and I was convinced to buy it. I later called my insurance and they said they do cover and that dealers know that. I was advised to return to the dealer and ask for a refund, Manhattan Beach Toyota refused me that. I told him that he lied to me about GAP insurance and he said"I don't remember". They are very dishonest and crooked at that dealer. Save yourself the pain and shop elsewhere. Bad Customer Service.Dear 310losangeles, The customer satisfaction ratings at Manhattan Beach Toyota Scion are truly exceptional and it seems there may be a miscommunication in this instance. I ask that you please contact us so we may review your purchase of the GAP insurance and refund you for this product, which you dont seem to want through us. However, the Finance Department was correct in telling you that the sales tax for the purchase of your vehicle is based on the city you will register it in. Unfortunately, I am not able to address your concerns further here. Without your name, I cannot take a look at the paperwork you completed or learn about any follow-up discussions you may have had with the Finance Department. But please feel free to contact me about this matter should you wish to discuss it further. I can be reached at (310) 546-4848. Get back to basics of Customer Service
by scooterbug19 on 12/27/2011updated 06/01/2025Could it be that in a highly competitive market, with a multitude of businesses vying for the customer's attention and dollars, that a car dealership actually has a frontline person who delivers horrible customer service at the onset,… ensuring that NO transaction could ever occur??? We got a TrueCar quote from this dealership, followed up on it, and got a Fleet Manager who sounded extremely impatient and condescending on the phone, treating a prospective buyer like an imbecile, and making ZERO effort to try to work around customer queries. Apparently, this salesperson is unfamiliar with Customer Service 101: treat the client with respect, build goodwill and equity into the dealer name. I'll tell all my friends to stay away from this dealership.Dear Scooterbug19,
My name is Darrell Sperber. I am the General Manager of Manhattan Beach Toyota. First I want to sincerely apologize to you for the experience you had. We do earn many of our customers business by offering a great experience, so it deeply concerns me when I read that you did not have a respectable discussion with one of our fleet managers.
Second, I would like to thank you for sharing your experience so I may address the matter. With your feedback and the feedback of other guests, we are able to improve your overall experience at Manhattan Beach Toyota.
We truly respect our customers. We have over 20 sales people (including Fleet and Internet) and I receive very few negative comments. In addition, we encourage our customers and guests to seek information and ask questions about our products and services. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE...DO NOT GO!!
by lisaet on 11/06/2011updated 06/01/2025I took my mother to John Elway Toyota in Manhattan Beach to buy her a new car. My mother is a sweet, tiny, 83 year old widow on a LIMITED budget. We found her car, her color and her price. First, after one hour, they tried to tell us they… no longer had her car in the color she wanted. Then, after sitting around for 2 hours, we get to the finance manager and he tells us the deal is not the deal they ORALLY CONTRACTED to with us. They fought my poor senior citizen mother over $500...which was THEIR mistake. The customer is NOT always right at this dealership. Make sure you are ready for the "bait and switch'" if you patronize this dealership. IT WAS OFFENSIVE THAT THE TRIED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A WIDOW!!!Dear Lisa, Please allow me to apologize on behalf of the entire team at Manhattan Beach Toyota for your negative sales experience. I have spoken to the sales manager about your experience. Although the specific advertised vehicle was sold while you were at the dealership, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to you and your mother. Toyota Financial Services does not provide a $500 rebate when using the special 0% APR financial programs. As a dealership, we pride ourselves in offering our guests the best service and experience possible. I sincerely apologize we did not meet your expectations. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We do take our guests opinions very seriously. Please contact General Manager, Darrell Sperber, directly at (310) 546-4848 and he would be happy to discuss this matter with you if you desire. Blindsided
by celtub on 03/06/2012updated 06/01/2025Part Two: Manhatten BeachToyota instructed me to go to the DMV to have the Title changed reflecting our Dissolved Trust. Went to DMV - said transaction could not be processed without the original Title, so the dealership misinformed me.… Called immediately after the sale 3 different times to speak to the owner. Was "promised" he would call back. Instead over the next 8 days, I received 2 calls from sales, 1 from "Customer Relations" who very unpleasantly said the owner "was in a meeting" and would call back. Instead, 2 days later a call from ? dept., who said the owner had been "out of town"... Interesting. And this is acceptable Customer Service?Dear Celeste,
I apologize for any frustration we may have caused you. The title to your trade must be in your name, not your ex-husbands name. Our finance manager was confident the DMV would issue you the title in your name because you had the proper documentation. Again, I apologize for your inconvenience.
The scuff marks on the underside of the bumper on the pre-owned Prius you bought are from normal driving, such as, entering driveways or passing over dips in the road, etc. When you brought the scratch to our attention again in your first online Edmunds.com review, the customer relations manager offered to repaint the bumper; however you declined to have her assist you with this.
Because of the title issue and your dissatisfaction, we immediately refunded your money in full and returned your trade, no questions asked. We would much rather have a satisfied ex-customer than an unsatisfied customer. In fact, we are very proud of our high customer satisfaction ratings with Toyota.
After that final transaction in which your money was refunded, you told the general sales manager you were pleased with the outcome and your experience at Manhattan Beach Toyota. If I may be of any assistance or you would like to talk to me, please call me at (310) 546-4848 and I would be more than pleased to talk to you, in fact, it would be my pleasure.
Sincerely,
Darrell Sperber
General Manager
Manhattan Beach Toyota
