  • Beware, this dealership deals in fraud and is big into bait-and-switch tact

    2 out of 5 starsby jte1470 on 09/13/2010

On July 17, 2010 I went to this dealer to buy a new 2011 Tucson Limited and wanted the Manufacturer's Navigation Package which includes GPS, Back up camera, and XM radio. I purchased my last Hyundai from this dealer 5 years before. I was… told by the salesman (Charles Dillahunty) that they did not have any vehicle in stock in the color I wanted with the Manufacturer's Navigation System, but they could put the package in after we bought one of the cars off the lot. I negotiated the price of the car with Charles telling him that I wanted the Manufacturer's Navigation Package included. After the usual back and forth, we agreed on a price. Charles told me the car would be retrofitted with the same Manufacturer's Navigation Package that he had shown us in another vehicle. Charles stated that after I signed for the purchase of the car he would set up an installation date and then give me a coupon to be presented to the maintenance department so they would install the Navigation Package. I then went the closer's and finance office, Mr. Howard Bass, who was my salesman from 5 years earlier, to have the documents written up and signed. We discussed our purchase and talked about the navigation in the car while we were signing the papers. After the signing we went to Charles' office to set up the time for installation and to get the coupon. It was then that I was informed that the navigation system was not in the negotiated priced. After dealing with these people for almost 5 hours I really had had it. I immediately called for the General Manager and was told that he was not in but the Sales Manager (Chris Thomas) would talk to me. When I explained the situation, Chris immediately told me that I was certainly wrong. He had spoken to Charles and that is not what happened and I had wasted 5 hours of their time. I ask that Charles step into the room and be a part of the conversation. When Charles was confronted, he relented and said that, yes; I had stated to him that I wanted the Manufacturer's Navigation Package and there had been a mix-up. Chris Thomas said that Charles' story had changed and Chris wanted a chance to make it right. A mistake is a mistake. I understand him not wanting to own up to it. Imagine my surprise when Chris Thomas, the sales manager, then said that I would have to pay an additional $1,800 for the Navigation Package. I said I had already negotiated the price with the Manufacturer's Navigation Package. If they would not live up to their word, I wanted the sale canceled. Mr. Thomas then told me he would put the Manufacturer's Navigation Package in for $595 to cover the dealers cost. I reluctantly agreed to pay the extra $595 for the Navigation Package. At that time, he said he could not put in the Panoramic Sunroof, which normally comes with the Package. He knew and confirmed that we were talking about the Manufacturer's Navigation Package. I was originally told it would take one to two days to install the Navigation Package and that they would provide me with a loaner car. It took 4 days. When I picked up the car my salesman Charles was not there. I asked to be instructed on the use of the new equipment. I was told to read the manual. I drove the car home and started to play with the controls. I couldn't get the back-up camera or the XM Radio to work. I checked over the car. It was then that I noticed there wasn't a back-up camera on the rear of the car. This is a part of the navigation system that I had purchased. Now I was getting really upset at how these people at North Freeway Hyundai operate. I called another Hyundai distributor and asked them for the manufacturer of their Navigation Package and was told it was either LG or Delphi. The part that North Freeway Hyundai put in was a Pioneer. I learned that this was an after market item and not the same as the Manufacturer's Navigation Package that I was told was being put in my car. I contacted sales manager Chris Thomas. H
    • We have contacted Hyundai Consumer Affairs and they replied that they were sorry for our frustration and "We would like to confirm that the navigation package must be included with the vehicle trim at the time of purchase, it can not be added after the sale. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause" Which means the dealer knew it could not be retrofitted and told us it could be done. FRAUD AND BAIT AND SWITCH is their game . BEWARE OF NORTH FREEWAY HYUNDAI IN HOUSTON.

    • Wow dude, that blows so hard and so does this dealer. Anything installed post purchase will be after market and will be a hack job. Never fall for this again. Even if the dealer gets their hands on the same hardware that the manufacturer uses it will be a hack job. There is also a high risk of setting off the airbags when it comes to electronics which is a $10K hit in your wallet, not the dealers. Always buy the car with the items you want straight from the manufacturer.

  • Internet Salesman, Jeff Bogle was great!

5 out of 5 starsby calyptra on 03/22/2010

I had driven a couple of Hyundais at our local dealership and was given a high pressure pitch to purchase a more expensive car than I was looking for at the time. So, I went online that night and found North Freeway Hyundai, sent an email… about the online deals and received a response first thing the next morning. That afternoon I was able to test drive the exact car I wanted and was made a fair offer not only on the car but also for my trade-in. Mr. Bogle did not pressure me in any way and even encouraged me to think about it, talk it over at home that night, and stop by other dealerships to compare. My husband and I had no trouble deciding to go with the deal at North Freeway Hyundai. The next morning the car was ready for us and we were in and out of there in an hour. Both Mr. Bogle and the finance rep were very helpful, pleasant and efficient. This car buying experience turned out to be great! I would/will recommend this dealership, specifically Mr. Jeff Bogle, to all of my friends and family.
  • Great Experience

    5 out of 5 starsby kkid1 on 02/11/2010

I've owned 3 Hyundais and I just moved to Houston so I wasn't familiar with Houston Hyundai dealers. I started my shopping online and found North Freeway Hyundai's website to be the most informative. It has all of their inventory, options,… option packages, and the prices for every single package, trim level, tiny option, everything. It is very helpful. It's actually better than Hyundai's website. It was pretty easy. I found the car I wanted, went in, had them appraise my trade and left an hour later with the car I wanted. I look for two things at a dealership; product selection and good people. North Freeway Hyundai had the largest selection and they were very professional. I was treated very politely, they were very professional, and after a little bit of negotiation for my trade-in price, we sealed the deal. Of the four Hyundai's I've purchased, this was by far the most pleasant experience.
  • Horrible Salesmen

Went with my friend who is a woman to look at a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. After we test drove it, we went back into the office and the guy wouldn't budge from the price listed on the window. I told him we would think about it and we left.… As we were backing out, two other guys came out and attempted the worst version of good cop/bad cop I have ever seen in my life. The bad cop, who said his name was "Chris", started accusing us of making an unreasonable offer while the good cop pretended to calm him down and said if we came back inside, we could work out a deal. Chris wanted my friend to come back another time, without me, presumably so he could make a much heftier profit by taking advantage of a woman who knew little about cars. My friend wanted to go back inside, so we did. While in the makeshift office of good cop, occasionally, Chris would come in and berate me for making such an unreasonable offer, state that we were wasting his time (a curious position to take since we were the only potential customers at the dealership), and whatever other disrespectful comments he could think of at the time. Eventually, I couldn't help but laugh at him, which only made him angrier. Meanwhile, good cop was starting to get agitated at us because I kept telling him there was absolutely no way we would be purchasing a car today given their lame attempt at salesmanship. At that point, bad cop wistfully informed good cop that "sometimes you have to let them walk away!" LOL. It was quite amusing to see these guys in action, but in the end, there is no way in hell I would ever buy a car from such amateurish salesmen who are so obviously trying to line their own pockets at the expense of my friend. Avoid this dealership unless you want to be amused by the ridiculously transparent yet ineffectual salesmen. If so, bring popcorn because they do not provide any unlike other dealerships. I did get a free bottle of water, so that was a plus.
  • Don't make my mistakes

Don't let them tell you they can't get the payoff on your trade-in at that time. Make sure you call and find out for yourself before you do anything. I purchased the car on a Saturday afternoon and they, supposedly, couldn't get the payoff.… I called my lender later and asked if they are open and available for payoff information on Saturdays and I was informed that they were open and available on Saturdays until 8:00 pm central time. I left the dealership by 7:30 pm. I can't prove it but I feel that they knew what the payoff was and since it would mean me paying $400 more, they knew it would be a deal breaker. Also, don't let them stick you with the $299 consumer advertising fee and save yourself a world of trouble and get your financing on your own before you go. The salesman was okay, but the sales manager was a [violative content deleted]. I almost left because of him. He asked inappropriate questions and made inappropriate remarks. He actually told me how badly they needed the business and wanted to know what I could do for them so we could get the deal done. What I can do for them? Are you kidding me? Then he coached me on rating them a 10 when they called to ask about my experience there. Can you believe this guy? My sister loved the car and wants one for herself. She will be buying one in about three months when her son takes her other car. You can bet she won't be buying one from North Freeway Hyundai.
  • Easiest Experience Ever

I found the exact car I wanted online (after looking at 7 other websites) and bought it for their advertised price in about 30 minutes. It was truely fast, easy, pleasurable and I would recommend this dealer to anyone.
  • Trying to Rip me off?

2.8 out of 5 starsby senoelv on 07/27/2008

I've been here a couple of times before. Everytime I dread talking to the service rep. He just seems unintrested in what you say, rarely even makes eye contact. I feel like giving up and telling him "go ahead and just figure it out on… your own". Just recently I came in for a more serious issue, a more costly issue and come to find out, I was also being over charged by over $50.00. Good thing was that I had an idea of what needed to be replaced and called 2 days prior to bringing my car for prices on these parts. I understand it can happen somtimes but this is a dealership not some small mechanic shop. The prices are on the screen in the parts computer. How could it change from the screen to when they printed it out. That just made me wonder if I should continue bringing them my business. So, now I'm searching for a hyundai mechanic again. If you have any advise let me know. Thanks
  • stay away from this place

i went to this dealership to purchase a hyundai santa fe. while there i decided to test drive the sonata. the salesperson was friendly but when i asked about negotiating on the price he said to me "oh there is no way of going down on any… of these vehicles" he also expressed to me that the general manager wasnt very nice and wouldnt try to deal at all. i submitted my application and waited for them to call me. no one called. i called my salesperson. he said i will get your file and call you back. he didnt call me back. so i figured they were not interested in selling me a vehicle so i went elsewhere. all of a sudden when the salesperson found this out when i called him, the manager decided to match the other persons price. i figured after all this drama why mess with them so i did purchase a 2009 sonata v6 way under sticker price from another dealership. if at all possible under no circumstances no matter what they promise stay away from this dealership. keep driving and you will find a better deal
  • Good car-buying experience at NFH

    4.8 out of 5 starsby shree3 on 07/17/2008

We live in Round Rock, 180 miles away. The internet price quoted by North Freeway Hyundai was the lowest. On a Saturday morning, we drove to Houston NFH dealership. The e-sales manager is Chris Thomas (Wharton MBA). There was no staged… drama....we just picked the vehicle at the agreed upon price. The Sales Associate Mr. Hector was courteous and professional. The Finance Manager Ray Funk was friendly and honest, didn't try to oversell an extended warranty. In fact if you Google search 'Hyundai Austin', you will see the NFH entry "Austin - We'll pay your airfare and save you money in Houston." People wouldn't travel 100+ miles unless the deals are better at NFH. -Shree
  • [violative content deleted]

    2 out of 5 starsby jmcguire1 on 05/17/2008

I went to check out a 2009 sonata and had a reasonable time with decent service before my salesman went to talk with his sales manager who decided it would be funny to insult me, and tease about offering a price only to take back his offer… because I "took too long". The deal was I won't be manipulated by a car salesman, and I wasn't participating in the tactics as desired, as in, not willing to wait indefinately while they discussed the deal. I wasn't willing to be pushed into an immediate buy, which they insisted on but at a price that was not to my liking. The sales manager was a [violative content deleted] and I wouldn't recommend anyone who isn't an experience buyer looking at inventory here as they were extremely pushy and manipulative. I won't be going back to the dealership for a car purchase ever.
  • Exactly what you Expect from a low class dealer

    1 out of 5 starsby goalie0020 on 04/24/2008

Went to buy a 2009 Sonota. Would not even show me one until I went to drive away. Only wanted to show me 2008's. After a long discussion and a test drive they came back to me with a $483 payment on 75 months. It came out to an 18%… APR!!! My credit is PERFECT! When I dispuited they dropped the payment to $330 a month! Would not tell me the APR either times or what I was paying for the car. Went to leave and they cornered me in the office and would not let me leave. Once we got outside the Sales Manager called me an [violative content deleted] idiot to his sales goons. I left and went to Fred Haas Toyota and bought a Camry. Much nicer car, and the best delaership to work with. NW Hyundai does nothing but try to take advantage of unknowing customers.
  • Buyer Beware

1.3 out of 5 starsby yvonnem on 03/18/2008

I purchased a 2007 demo Azera in which I noticed a peculiar oder but did not think twice about it but after getting it home, I realized that there were ashes in the ashtray and figured out that the "executive" that drove this car smoked in… it. We tried to return the car and they basically told us that we were "stuck" with this car and they were not willing on taking it back or return my trade. I have to agree with the previous reviews regarding the General Manager, he is rude, disrespectful and the only thing he is concerned about are his numbers and not customer satisfaction.
  • The Wost ever !!!

1 out of 5 starsby hlain on 01/25/2008

The Internet Salesman quoted me a price for a stick shift when I wanted a automtic. when I got to the dealership he pulled the oops. sorry about that, When I told him that since I requested an automatic and that I wanted at the price he… quoted me. I mean come on it was his mistake he should have to pay for it! he goes and gets this irrate manager that was swearing at me. then they said they lost the keys to my car and told me I might as well purchase a car since they couldn't find the keys to mine. on a scale of 1 to 10 I rate North freeway Hyundai a negative 100.
  • Terrible Dealership!

1.8 out of 5 starsby docmigamoe on 08/18/2007

This was the worst dealership I have ever visited. I do not place any blame on the Internet Sales Team; rather, this opinion is based solely on the General Sales Manager. He was, by far, the most aggressive, rude, offensive sales person… I've ever met. He was the only reason I would not pen a deal at that dealership and would rather drive a Yugo than purchase from him. He ranted endlessly for nearly two hours how trustworthy he was and the others were liars. I find any sales person calling people by name and pointing to nearby competing dealership to be nothing but a ploy while showing a lack of character. I strongly recommend anyone go to a different dealer. I don't care how much inventory they have. If they don't treat you with dignity and respect you're better off going elsewhere.
    • In November, I visted this dealership based on there large inventory of Santa Fe's. The sales person was knowledgeable and courteous. When the negotiating began, I met the General Sales Manager was the most arrogant, self centered, rude person I have ever met and I've purchased many vehicles over my 65+ years. He attempted to pressure me into a deal. He perpetuated the sterotypical car salesman who no one trusts. My experience was so bad, I purchased a Toyota. That dealerships sales staff was professional and made the car buying experience pleasurable.

My sales person was Ron W. What I appreciated the most from Ron was that he was on the up and up with me on the phone, prior to me even coming to the dealership. I was getting the run around with other dealerships and began to get pretty… tired of wasting my time going to dealership after dealership. When I spoke with Ron and told him what I was dealing with, he simply told me the truth, had me come to the dealership and on the first attempt, I was riding out with my new 2013 Genesis. I actually thought I was going to get a used vehicle but he actually got me in a brand new vehicle and I love my car. Thumbs up to Ron W. Thanks so much. I would recommend this dealership to anyone.

North Freeway Hyundai is totally awesome! After doing my homework online I decided that getting a new Hyundai would be a smart choice. once I decided on a few places to visit, I felt that North Freeway Hyundai was going to give me the best… deal and I was right! I met with Dave H. one of their internet managers and he was super professional. I recommend North Freeway Hyundai for your next car purchase. Thanks Dave!
  • Ridiculous Sales Strategy

I was just at this dealership trying to get a price for a new vehicle. The sales manager refused to give me his best offer because he said that I'd go to Ron Carter Hyundai with his offer. So he wanted me to agree to purchase a car from him… first, before telling me the price? He went on about how other dealers would lie and he's the only straight shooter in the business. This is a new experience. I've never got a treatment like this from a car salesman (who normally would move heaven and earth to please you). I'm intrigued to see why this guy is so afraid to compete with Ron Carter Hyundai. I guess that's where I'm going tomorrow.

Be really careful about buying a car here. Best just to avoid the place. If you must... some suggestions: 1. When negotiating the price, be very clear that you will not pay additional documentation fees. They try all the sleazy sales… tactics to add BS charges for hundreds of dollars when you get to the finance guy (even if you are paying cash). 2. Always add a condition that you need to get the car checked out by a mechanic. I am clearly an idiot because I didn't do this. The car was fine except that the tail lights didn't work. I didn't realize this because we bought the car during the day. Found out later that night. Dealer says we bought the car as is. That is true but you would think any dealer with integrity would just fix such an obvious problem. (needed $300 repair). This is clearly not a dealer with any kind of integrity (read all the other reviews online too). My bad for choosing to trust that they would act honorably. It is too bad because the sales rep was nice and did a good job. Didn't waste too much time and negotiated quickly.

I purchased a used 1994 Corvette for my son from this dealership. I do not live in Houston so, I had a family member go and drive it. It had a couple of things that needed to be fixed and I was assured by Hector that they were fixed. Once I… purchased the car, I was told it would be delivered upon receipt of the paper work. Five days later, still not car. I was then told they had to wait for transport to show up and I would have it on Monday. Monday still no car, can't get a return call or email back from anyone. Finally, received a text from Chris Thomas stating that the car was delayed until the next day. The car does finally arrive behind a pick-up trailer, with one trailer. It sure took that awhile to fill up so I could get my car. Nothing was fixed and the parking brake was stuck. I could not get anyone to answer my calls or emails. Absolutely no service after the sale and still to this day, no return call. I will never purchase from here again.
