Very unfair sales practices...
by nnjguy on 11/18/2009I had purchased a 2010 Acura RDX from Kim Mellage. After having the car for 2 days I decided the car was not for me. I hated almost everything about it. I returned the car and asked to purchase a leftover 2009 MDX instead. Kim and the… manager agreed but decided that in addition to several fees such as delivery fees, documentation fees, etc that I should also still pay for half of the approx. $1,700 worth of accessories I had purchased on the brand new 2010 RDX that they were going to turn around and sell again. I had no choice. It was either be stuck with an SUV you do not like or pay what they want to get into a vehicle you like and are comfortable driving. I am a loyal Acura customer and had just sold my 2004 MDX for this new vehicle. This is my fourth brand new Acura purchase. This is partly why I am so put off. They reward customer loyalty with unfair and deceptive sales practices. And as if putting a premium price on the leftover MDX wasn't enough they had the gall to only refund me fifty cents on the dollar for brand new accessories that barely had dust on them. And to and insult to injury, when I asked if I could just keep the RDX all-weather mats that I had already paid for, since they were only refunding me half and planning on selling for full price, they told me only if I paid $50 for them!!! Can you believe that??? They wanted to charge me $50 for all-weather floor mats that I had already paid full price for??? Now I realize I was completely at their mercy and it was my fault for not being 100% completely sure about the suv I ahd purchased, but fair is fair. I was totally taken advantage of and there was nothing I could do about it. They saw an opportunity to take advantage of a mistake that I made and profit off of that mistake. Even after thry extorted all of that money from me they wouldn't even get me the 2009 leftover MDX in the color I wanted. They wouldn't trade what another dealership wanted for the color MDX I wanted. They didn't give a crap at that point, they had my money and I had no leverage at all and they took full advantage. Christmas came early this year for Kim Mellage, the sales associate and Harry Jones, the sales manager. Acura should be ashamed of having people like this in their showrooms. I have reported them both to the better business bureau and Acura Headquarters and the matter is currently under investigation by both parties. I will keep you up to date with the results of the investigations. Do yourself a favor and avoid DCH Monclair Acura if you are in the market for a new Acura. It's not worth the stress and the money$$$.Please see the final comments from the Better Business Bureau in regards to the Peter Daly complaint. Most Stress-Free deals

They immediately provided me a categorized sales price w/ all the detailed information regarding TTL, trade-in value, Doc fees etc. So, I made an appointment, test drove and signed… the contract. This was one of the most stress-free deals I ever experienced in car buying!! I was treated w/ RESPECT through out the visit and no hassle, no extra fees, no aggressive sales rep and even got a better deal than the originally agreed deal.Highly recommend DCH Acura in Montclair

by 87silver on 03/26/2009I went to this dealer assuming the worst, because of the assumed perception that all of us have when entering any car dealer establishment. Either things have changed or DCH Montclair Acura is the exception. We made some out of the ordinary… requests in regard to the business end of the purchase. Most dealers probably would have given us a hard time (some have in the past). As it turned out, the staff was extremely helpful and accommodating to any request that we made. Not once did they ever even hesitate or push back on our requests. KIM MELLAGE and MARK were absolutely truthful and honorable. Just terrific sales agents. This is probably the most pleasurable and non-stressful vehicle purchase that I have ever made. I strongly recommend DCH Montclair Acura to anyone looking to purchase a new or used car.Attentive, accomodating

Their internet sales person (Donna Telesco) was very helpful, responsive. The sales personnel at the dealership was… very good as well, the price I was quoted was the price I paid, they really made this experience as positive as I could have hoped!Bait and Switch, Gender bias, BOGUS VIN at Montclair- Never corrected
by kpking on 02/24/2008I am signing papers for my Acura TSX 2004 at Montclair Acura, Montclair, NJ and the car is stolen off the lot- car jockey left keys in it.. So what happens to an individual WOMAN sitting in the finance office at Montclair Acura? They… tried to up sell me. I would not let them. I get ready to walk out Suddenly they find another car at another dealership they can bring in for me… Amazing- 10 minutes prior none is available! When I demonstrate I am not a helpless female, they decide to provide what I negotiated for in the first place WHY should I have had to fight so much to get the car I negotiated for several weeks prior and for which I dutifully waited for delivery? During the showroom experience they kept treating me like a frilly woman with no tech knowledge- I understand cars- I wanted to look under the hood and they said, “Why do you want to do that ? You know the engine is in there” That was not humorous- they were trying to dissuade me from asking mechanical questions They patronized me with the Navi explanation when I told them a professor of technology and have taught engineering… Next part of the sales story, they delivered another TSX car to me for the original price later that day or the next and gave me the keys and final paperwork at my home. Here is where MORE problems begin... they included some amenities for the "inconvenience". When I try to return or call the dealership they always have me listed with 2 tsxs - they can NEVER get it right... When I spoke to the new management about another incident describing this 2/2008 they tell me they still cannot delete the wrong record. This is ridiculous - I do not want my name associated with a car I never owned never mind which I never stepped in nor SAW! It gets worse. much worse Turns out in the sales transaction they never provided me with the lug nut key. 2/2008 it has cost me $640 for a flat tire due to this glaring sales omission and they would not cover the cost Acura SALES.. .. faulty to the nth degree This must be illegal to have my name associated with this bogus TSX VIN- Who has the write off- who is driving that car? Where do I ever get the compensation I was supposed to get- instead of all the aggravation? It gets worseWho's on first? llegal VINS, no responsibility for errors- Montcalir Acura
by kpking on 02/24/2008I got my very first Acura from Montclair Acura in fall 2003 and had they have provided free oil changes due to my inconvenience and I believe in dealer service.. so off I go.. Explanation: I have a 2004TSX “substitute" car The big… problem is we now engage in a continuing confusion with Montclair SERVICE about WHICH TSX I have… "You have 2 tsxs".. "NO I do not"... “It says you do in our system” I have to explain whole story to these people again... every time I deal with Acura Montclair I have to do the same.... even though they SAY this sort of robbery never happened before (then why don’t they remember this one?) "We can not delete the extra one off the system" I make an appointment, show up and wait several hours for a simple 15,000 mile check (a little early on that check in) and oil service. I could not deal with this anymore I was sick of dealing with all the frustration So for the sake of my emotional well-being I walk away and FORFEIT the free services Actually- I think they count on you doing that .... If we take 2 hrs for an oil change- why will they use the coupons? Fast Forward 2/08. I have to call Montclair Acura because I find out they NEVER gave me the locking lug nut key for my car… 4 years later they still have the 2 VIN numbers in the systems—according to them I still own 2 TSXs. I have a serious problem with this lack of service and accountability. Who has my first car, what dealings are going on? Shady and incompetent procedures with service On top of this as I am stranded on the road – I ask them for the nearest Acura dealer in Manhattan-they insist repeatedly the closest one is in Brooklyn… In disbelief we ask several more times- the service department insists there is no Acura Manhattan… Who is on first Acura? How do we serve our customers? Make your judgment based on this account.. I have had no compensation- from anyone on this account.. Still all wrong—still nothing made right..Great Dealership with excellect pricing.

The reason I bring this up is because I am very keen on research and getting the best value of a product, even if it is for car shopping. After… months of research for a used BMW 335xi, DCH Montclair Acura was the best dealership that I could find within the NY/NJ area. This dealership is very professorial and customer oriented. My price range was around $25k and DCH Montclair Acura had the best "bang for your buck" deal compared to other dealers when looking at all factors such as features, year, mileage, and condition. I was set on a particular 2008 BMW 335xi they had after I couldn't find a better deal anywhere else. The buying process was smooth and professional, and they also gave a fair value on my used car. I worked with Barry K. who was friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly professional. After the purchase, I followed up regarding registration documents and title transfers and he was proactive and answered all my questions promptly. This dealership is on the top of my list and I would recommend it to anyone in the buying market.thanking DCH and Jaime Borja

Got My RDX

On arrival we were greeted immediately and Tony took us through all the details clearly and patiently. As we were told, the finance guy (Benjamin) called me within a couple of hours and gave us the good news! Also, initially we did not think we could get a car so quickly but were informed of a cancellation that allowed us to come back same day and drive our RDX home! Benjamin was very thorough with the finance details and Tony stepped us through all the particulars of the car. A very quick, easy and great experience. by alexnj on 04/29/2011updated 06/28/2025I wanted to buy the RDX with Tech Package. The dealer online quoted me a price of $34,580 which I was willing to pay. So when I schedule to test drive the car before I buy it, the salesman decided to raise the price by A THOUSAND dollars to… $35,580. The rep told me that the boss had a meeting with the staff late that night and decided to raise all prices due to the earthquake in Japan. I was told that their current inventory of vehicles, that they paid for many months ago before the earthquake happened were affected somehow (the rep didn't exactly told me how their current lot of cars was affected) but that they would have to raise the price by $1,000 more. I was surprised and upset by this about face treatment I received that I lost taste for this dealership. How can you offer me a quote and the next day recant it and raise it by another $1,000? Can anybody just do that these days? This dealership is UNETHICAL, UNCONSCIONABLE, and Not trustworthy. Trust me STAY AWAY from this dealership and take your business elsewhere. To make matters worst, the rep told me that the MDX buyers are now switching to the RDX inventory because it saves more gas and that the RDX are going fast and that their online inventory is NEVER EVER accurate anyway and that I should never pay attention to their website. Imagine that? She pulled a fast one on me by telling me that she now has an excuse why I should pay the $1,000 price increase! Because it's going fast and I should just pay for it. I heard that all before and in this market economy, she must really think we are all naive to think that their lot of RDX is selling like hotcakes off their lots. Shame on this dealership. WHAT A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

We were trying to get an end of the month special that was going on for the Acura DMX in April.. we went to their place (while we had other places matching their price).. and… they told us that they couldn't work out the contract right away because we were from out of state, we understood and left the dealership expecting them to honor the price of the car when they could process the contract. well we waited until they called us, and 2 days later, when the deal is no longer valid, and told us that we can't get the deal anymore because it past. Meanwhile, they were the ones who were holding out until it was over. then they said buy the same car from us for $600 more, YOUR STILL getting a GREAT DEAL. This place is horrible. Their costumer service is by far THE WORST we've ever experienced. We were there for 6 hours trying to get a lease.. to end up with nothing, because they are unprofessional and unethical! I really can't understand how ANYONE deals with them! Horrible!Transmission fraud

At 88k miles my car started exhibiting signs of this 2nd 3rd gear defect! Valarie from dch said my… warranty was expired and I don't qualify for recall because previous owner already had it replace! My question is if it was replaced, why wasn't I told? And why was it replaced with another defective transmission ? Gonna sue these [non-permissible content removed]!New RDX

Paul D was easy to work with and I believe we got a reasonably good deal. Paul W was… exceptional. I sold cars back in the early 90's to supplement my income. Never met a more professional representative then or since. Paul was great. Ben K explained the transaction clearly and I was thankful that most of the paperwork was completed in advance of our visit. I have had grueling F&I experiences in the past. These comments are in response to Peter Dalys recent alleged mishandling of a sales transaction. We feel Mr Daly is distorting the facts, leaving important information out and attempting to get money from the dealership which he is not entitled to. We are currently dealing with the better business bureau and will present all necessary documentation to an arbitrator in order to defend ourselves. Montclair Acura
