  • Deceptive dealership

1 out of 5 starsby Rebsjb on 04/02/2022

Horrible deceptive dealership. We learned the hard way to never do business with Demontrond on I45 in Houston. First off they charge $3000 for market adjustment. Don't believe anything the manager tells you. They will add an extra $2000 for everything from paying cash or not financing through them. We asked about the 1.9 financing that Kia advertised. Well that will cost you an extra $2000. They also charged for dealership installed items like glass itching that we did not agree to. They hide it in the consumer service. Which manager said was for dealer delivery prep. No mention of window etching. Your total might come out the same as when you signed the agreement and gave them your non-refundable deposit to buy the vehicle when it arrives but they change numbers around in the finance department. So we ended up paying $1000 for window etching that we specifically said we did not want. And if they tell you the car is in transit don't believe the arrival date they give you. Note the deposit is non refundable so you have to just wait for car to arrive. The car was to arrive on March 14 then 24 but didn't arrive till the 31st. Turns out it didn't ship till the 15th. Yes salesman slipped up on giving me that information. They will blame it on KIA and delivery service. Just beware! Please note it's not the KIA vehicle we purchased. The Soul is great. It's the dealership.
    • UPDATE: Spoke with general manager Tom Skinner. He will be refunding me for $1000.00 for window etching which we did not approve or recieve.

    • UPDATE: Well it turns out not only did they charge us the extra $1000.00 for window etching the manager Hassan finally had to admit they didn’t etch the windows at all when I ask him to show me where they were etched.

  • Problem Solved

4 out of 5 starsby Problem Solved on 02/25/2020

UPDATE: After the bad experience over the weekend with the Internet sales manager, Monday Martin Carbajal, new car sales manager reached out and asked for a chance to make the situation right. He offered to provide a drive-out price as requested and went the extra mile to put together an acceptable quote and even sent a sales order showing the price details. My son chose to pursue the offer because of price and the "warranty forever". He purchased the car Monday night with Martin's help. Martin really stepped up, genuinely apologizing for the situation and worked hard to correct the bad experience and turned it around. I appreciate Martin pushing to convert what was a disappointing exchange into a satisfying transaction. The dealer won't get 5 stars because the situation should never have happened but Martin did turn it around and HE deserves 5 stars.

  • Bait & Switch

I recommended my son to a Shell Federal Credit Union "preferred" dealership, DeMontrond Kia and have come to regret the whole experience. DeMontrond Kia had a Sorento listed via Cars.com that was listed less than any other EX models on the site @ $28,712. He went to the dealership with an approval letter from the Credit Union. When he arrived, the salesperson he met was very nice but said that was the maximum lowest price with all available rebates and incentive deals and that the car price for my son was actually $33,500. They left the dealership having felt "baited and switched". Later the same day, I submitted an online request for a price and was emailed by the Internet Manger of the dealership Thom R. asking how he could help. I explained my son's experience and asked for a drive-out price on the specific car stock # if indeed the advertised Cars.com price was NOT actually the price. He responded with an excuse that the "price you saw earlier was a mistake where the website was using all available rebates and actually double dipping one of the rebates." He then listed the pricing of the car with available rebates and incentives with a drive-out price of $29,112. I noticed that my son would not qualify for the Loyalty discount of $1500 and asked if he would still honor the drive-out price of $30,612. He replied that "Yes all they would lose is the $1,500 owner loyalty. So yes $30,612 Drive out." I replied that the pricing was acceptable for the specific stock number at the stated drive-out price of $30,612 and asked how we needed to secure the car. He offered that he could come do the paperwork and take the car and they would finish with the Credit Union on Monday. I replied that He would head to the dealership and thanked him for making the earlier bad experience right again. At almost the same time I was replying, he replied that "I’m sorry it’s the sell price of $30,612 plus TT&l". I replied that I had asked for the drive-out price at the beginning and that he himself had referenced "drive-out" price twice in our email exchange. I asked him to honor the price he had quoted as drive-out but he refused. I plan to submit a request to have this dealership removed from my Credit Union's preferred dealer list. If the list indeed exists to provide customers with dealers committed to an honest car-buying experience and not "pay to play", I am hopeful they will be removed. I was forced to select 1 star, they deserved NONE.

  • Disappointed about a failed opportunity for customer service

    1 out of 5 starsby Brian_Bean on 02/13/2020

We went in to the dealership to purchase my vehicle upon lease-end. We wanted to put the vehicle in the name of someone other than myself and so we thought it would be easier to work with the dealer rather than the DMV. However, when we got in and looked at the transaction details, we noticed a number of dealership fees that totaled over $500. I expressed that I wasn't really interested in paying that much in fees just to basically fill out registration forms and felt it was the dealership just trying to make extra money on an easy deal. When the sales manager came out to explain, he flat-out lied to us about one of the fees and said it was just part of the title and registration costs that we would incur anywhere. We called him out on it and his response was "I'm not here to argue with anyone. I'm just telling you how it is and those are beyond our control." When I then referenced his own document's fine print that accompanied the asterix on the fee, he then backtracked and said that it was actually a dealer fee after all that the law allowed him to charge much more for. We ended up not working with them because I didn't appreciate the attempted deception in order to make a quick payoff. I have bought two vehicles from this dealership and had great experiences, but this really soured me from buying my third when we look at upgrading our minivan next year. Good dealerships are about relationships. It wouldn't have taken 20-30 minutes for them to help us with this paperwork - and in the middle of a Thursday afternoon they were not busy - and it would've told me a lot about how they valued me as a customer. But instead, when it appeared we weren't going to pay their fees, the manager seemed offended and was more than happy to let us do it ourselves. It's too bad. They had an opportunity to really show customer service. I guess they are more concerned about quick and easy money every chance they get, even if it means lying to people who don't read fine print.

  • INCOMPETENT SALES STAFF

1 out of 5 starsby DONNA on 11/27/2019

We just spent a week trying to buy a car and finally walking away with nothing!!! Take note it’s not for any reason other than the sheer incompetency of the sales staff. This was to be a corporate vehicle and we were buying the last brand new 2018 on the lot. You would think they would be able to figure out how to sell a car to a company!!! Never go to Demontrond Kia on Hwy 45 near Rankin Road. Their loss will go to Austin where the company has bought the last four Kia vehicles.

  • Do not buy from Demontrond

1 out of 5 starsby reviewedmunds on 10/02/2017

Do not buy a vehicle from Demontrond. You should not be disrespected and lied to when giving a business tens of thousands of dollars for a brand new vehicle. You are much better off going to a dealership that specializes in their one brand of vehicle, not a megahub like Demontrond where they sell Volkswagen, Kia, motor homes, etc., and run you through their impersonal facility like cattle. Do not be fooled by their "Warranty Forever" program, as the requirements are strict and easily broken. Do not buy a vehicle from George "Country" Hobbs. He will call to arrange for other dealerships in the area not to have your desired vehicle available to you just so that he can be the person to make the commission. He will become visibly angry when the negotiation process is not to his liking. He will talk down to you and blame you for long wait times in front of other employees and customers. He will have you wait two additional hours just to pay for the vehicle because he failed to tell the finance office that you are paying cash instead of financing. Mr. Hobbs will take the keys to your vehicle to his home and have you waiting again at the dealership for him to arrive and fill the gas and attach the temporary plates before you can finally drive away with the vehicle that you signed paperwork for and that he has had in his possession since two days prior. I have never been in the position to spend this much money and be treated so poorly and I will not ever recommend anyone attempt to have their needs met by Demontrond.

  • Not a pleasant experience.

I felt the salesman and manager really didn’t take much interest in me as a customer. Cocky and arrogant manager. An extra charge was tacked on to the sales price and although minimal I was in no position to say no at this point. The car was being delivered to an agreed drop off that I had to change at the last minute. The salesman actually hung up in my ear. And I had a mechanical problem and not even so much as a courtesy call from the sales person to see if I had it repaired. I would never purchase from DeMontrond again.

I wanted to buy my son a car that would be affordable but safe to drive. So I decided on a Kia Soul.. We had been out looking into the cars at several dealers when we went into DeMontrond. The salesman was very nice and said he didnt have the car we were looking for but he could get it from the previous dealer. Made me a deal and said that they could acquire the one we wanted. Also sight unseen he made me an offer on the car that I was going to trade in, and having done my homework I knew what the cars value was. They told me to give them a day to find the car and to get it cleaned up and I could come in and pick it up at that time. All was going according to plan when I went there to sign the final papers I chatted with the salesman for a short time and then was escorted into another salesman's office. I already had my insurance company ready to make the changes but until I actually saw the car I didn't have the vin# which was the only part of the process that was remaining. The new salesman was an insurance salesman, he looked at my insurance papers for a moment and said that he could beat any existing policy that I had and wanted to further inquire about my homeowners policy!!?? I did not go to buy a new car to talk about my homeowners insurance, but this salesman was asking questions about my assorted policies and said he could do better and all I had to do was send him a coversheet and he would take care of everything???? At the end of his speal I simply asked him why I was in his office and he said he was part of DeMontrond and I needed to talk to him?? I told him I was not interested because I was fine with the insurance I had and left his office. The Sales Manager was outside his office and I also asked him why I was escorted into the insurance mans office, and was also told that it was part of the process and he was part of DeMontrond!? The signing of the papers went without incident, although they tried to sell me everything additional that they could which is their job I suppose, but that high pressure sales mans insurance pitch really was annoying. I did not feel I had to explain my entire financial structure to him. I have bought somewhere between 10-12 new cars in my life and this was a first for me. And even after he could tell my displeasure at being in his office, he called me back at my home the following day and offered his services again!! I would recommend This Car Dealer to my friends but I will also inform them of the insurance pitch and to be forewarned.
