Colonial Toyota, Smithfield, RI...very good sales experience
by rial on 12/30/2009I HATE buying cars. I HATE the usual BS from the sales staff so I have learned to do my research before I go and have MY PRICE in hand for what I want. My wife and I were greeted warmly (of course) and "played along" with the sales rep… who did his job very well. Then I brought out my documentation, comparison shopping prices and all research I did and amazingly, we struck a deal that was very comfortable. Was given a very good price for my trade in (higher than expected actually) and all in all, I was really quite pleased. They made their money I'm sure (and I'm NOT and easy customer...nice...but niot a pushover) but there were none of the pressure and games at all. We're Toyota people, so we'll be back for our next car...probably next year.Non Game Playing
by camryowner3 on 07/29/2009This June of 2009 I purchased a 2009 Camry rather than a 2010. I knew what I wanted and I knew what I wanted to pay. Things went well. No heavy handed negotiating. Colonial is not the only Toyota shop around. (Boch found that out)… Salespeople know their job, they do it every day. Shoppers will not win the game. The only con that I saw was the finance guy, I wondered if he felt that I just fell off a turnip truck. Hopefully, the service department will be good, as well.horrible service
by mbucri on 07/01/2009My boyfriend and I went to Colonial Toyota a few days ago. I was planning on purchasing a Toyota that day. We were welcomed at the door by a sales person, who saw someone he knew behind us and (instead of politely saying, "I know these… people, would you please excuse me?) told another sales person to help us as he was rushing out the door. The person assigned to help us followed him outside into the service garage. We stood there without being helped by anyone else on the sales floor (there were no other customers and about 3 visible sales people around). Eventually the person who was supposed to help us came back inside, walked past us without making eye contact and went to the back of the showroom. He came out a few times, saw us standing there, and made no attempt to help us. We ended up just walking out. I would not recommend this dealership to anyone.Unprofessional Sales Tactics
by aiden123 on 06/23/2008I recently stopped in this dealer to help purchase a car for a family member. At first I was very impressed with the look of the dealer (the grounds are beautiful), but unfortunately I was very disappointed to have experienced what I call… (for lack of a better term) "unprofessional sales tactics" or maybe this is the way business is done in the car industry I dont think so. The sales person although very pleasant kept living to "talk to his manager" after several times of this when I said I was just starting to look and I needed to do a comparison of other products they gave me the if you don't buy it now it might not be here later stunt. When I very nicely said just give me your card he kept telling me that with a deposit I would guarantee myself the car would be there, okay I know about this one, but if I really want a particular car I know there is more of a supply than a demand so I can always find the car I want. The last straw was they had another sales person come out and grab the keys from the salesperson I was talking with to tell him that the "car had just sold on the internet" Of course I received a call the next day offering me the same car they should have sold on the internet the previous day. A listen, I want businesses to make money, (I have my own business) but I don't know if they do not realize that these tactics do not work anymore, if anything I think they give people a sleazy feeling. I want you to be honest with me, and build a little rapport with me, and if I'm not ready to purchase at that point in time allow me to walk out (without the theatrics) and once I'm done doing my comparisons I will keep you in mind. Needless to say we did not purchase a car from this location, we went down the street and had a much better sales experienced and purchased a product there.2008 Camry LE Purchased
by jarn on 03/06/2008When I walked into Colonial Toyota, I was finishing up a 3 day "extraveganza" of car shopping. I had been to a multitude of dealers and this is where I ended up making my purchase. I got what I would consider a fair price for a new '08… Camry with a good price on my trade-in. The salesperson I dealt with was professional and seemd up front and honest about everything we talked about. We agreed on the price, and when I got to the finance department the price never changed, no hidden costs or fees. On a side note, I went with a friend about 2 weeks later, talked to the same salesperson, and they were great again, however my friend was quite annoyed by the sales manager and ended up walking out frustrated. I sat through the whole exchange, and I was surprised by the change in how he was treated vs. how I felt when I bought my car there. I guess it is hit or miss (depending on the sales manager that is "on duty" when you get there) If I had not witnessed this exchange, I would have given them all 5's.Horrible
by KeyurPatel75 on 04/05/2014updated 08/30/2025I recently leased a 2014 Sienna XLE AWD few days ago. I am disgusted and absolutely disappointed at the quality of service. On 2/7/14 is when I met with John and Abed and committed to the lease. I wanted white color and was told by Eric… that it would take few days to get it and they gave me a rental since my previously leased vehicle was returned. I kept on calling and leaving messages for John to see when my car will arrive. I never received a call back with that information. 2 weeks went by and finally John called me and said that the car has arrived. I was out of town for a week and could not come and was constantly pressurized to come and if not incentives might change and I will not get the good deal that I was getting. I was able to go on 3/1 and finally signed off the paperwork and then picked up the van couple days later. Within the first 3-4 days, I found out that my wife was not comfortable driving such a large vehicle and I tried to call Abed several times for options to terminate lease and left him 3-4 messages on 3/5 but never got a return call. I called and left more messages on 3/6 and no return calls again. My wife called dealership upset that same day at night and complained about this. All of a sudden Abed calls me at 8:20 pm, I explain him my situation and he tells me that he will look into this and call me next day. No surprise that he never called me next day. I called and left message the first time but no call back. I called a 2nd time and he picked up the phone. He tells me to come Saturday 3/8 morning and he and his manager will talk to me and discuss options. I go there on Saturday at 11 am and Eric tells me that he is busy, has few people ahead of me which I understand. Eric tells me that it will be about an hour which I was willing to wait. Abed comes out and tells Eric to assess my van and figure out trade in price and new price for a RAV4. Eric tells me that he will work on it that same day on Saturday or Sunday and will call me back. And guess what, like everyone else he also did not call me back. I was so disgusted and fed-up by everything that I just decided to go on Monday, pick up my new plates for the Sienna and be done with Colonial and never do business with them again and never to recommend anyone else to them. When I went to pick up he plates, Eric has the nerve to come up to me and tell me that he wrote my phone# down wrong and that's why he couldn't call me which is so wrong. He never asked my phone# on Saturday when I went there. My # is everywhere in your system. I wasn't determined to return the van, I was just looked for some answers so that I could make an informed decision. Only thing I can say is, I came to Colonial Toyota since they are local and I also leave in Smithfield. But after the whole awful experience, I am so sorry that I every went there in the first place. lastly not that important, but the odometer statement said 96 miles, and when I got the vehicle it had 175 miles but nobody even told me or provided me explanation on this
