  • Online Buyers Beware

I must admit that we are at fault for trusting information on the internet and a used car salesman enough to think that we were getting a nice used vehicle without actually seeing it in person. The information posted looked great and the salesman talked it up very nicely. So, we decided to go ahead and put $1,000 down (non-refundable) in order to avoid driving 200+ miles only to find the car had been sold (as has been the experience of other reviewers I’ve seen). About 30 minutes later, the salesman called up and said he was receiving new information about the car that we should know about. The car had not been through the 117 point inspection advertised online, there were some ‘surface scratches’ (but ‘not damage’ he assured us), the car needed new tires, and there was an engine light of some sort which apparently went off when the oil was changed. So, we knew it was not perfect, but again, to hear the salesman describe it, the problems were minor. He even sent pictures of the ‘scratches’ and they did indeed look minor in the photos. So, having already put $1,000 down, we decided to go ahead and follow through with the purchase. Upon seeing the car, we realized just how naive we’d been to trust them, but by then it was too late (unless we were content to have just given them $1,000 and driven 200+ miles for nothing!). One of the ‘surface scratches’ turned out to be a large, protruding 3 inch gash which had cut through the metal. This was in no way represented accurately by the photos, nor did the salesman describe it as such. The front tires (which, in fairness, we were told needed to be changed) were completely bald and potentially dangerous to make the 200+ mile trip home. The interior, which we were informed by the salesman was in great shape and looked nearly perfect in the photos, appeared to have not even been cleaned. The seatbelt straps were nearly black with grime, there were crumbs in the crevices along with an old ticket stub and a bobby pin and it all smelled like old smoke. After getting the vehicle home we discovered that the front rotors were completely shot and that all of the brake pads needed to be replaced. But, the icing on the cake was when we discovered that THE OIL HAD NOT BEEN CHANGED, even though they took the time to reset the indicator as if they HAD changed it! Seriously? Did you really decide to save the $20 on an oil change when you found out we were coming from out of state? The dipstick was stained with old, dark oil and the level was well below the add line. Yes, we could have caught that at the dealership and MAYBE they would have taken care of it, however, we had already been informed that no work could be done on the vehicle because it was Saturday and there was no one in the garage. In sum, we were foolish to have trusted the word of Buck Chevrolet. Had we received an accurate description of this vehicle up front, we would never have considered buying it. But, since we had already given them $1,000 and driven so far to get it, I am sure they were fairly confident that we would feel obligated to take it despite the additional issues we were not aware of. Moreover, they apparently did not even feel a need to clean it up given this situation. We will never make the mistake of buying a vehicle online again, especially from Buck Chevrolet. Used car dealers have certainly earned their fine reputation.

We went to Buck to purchase a used car for our Granddaughter. We left with a car for her and a new car for ourselves. It was such a super experience. Jeni and Dan made us so comfortable and did everything to make our experience a positive one and we felt like friends. I have been referring everyone I know to Buck Chevrolet. We will be back for our next car!

My experience at Dan Buck Chevrolet in Canal Fulton, Ohio was one that has completed tainted my opinion of General Motors selling tactics, motives, and quality. This Chevrolet dealership was ruthless in their confrontations when I was simply trying to get questions answered. I purchased a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic on Saturday and when I came back the next business day (Monday), they could not provide me with any paperwork I requested. Dan Buck was very confrontational and threatened multiple times to call the police rather than being a true business man and working WITH the customer to try to solve the problem. This dealership was never upfront about how much I was paying for my 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, or how much I was getting for my trade of a Dodge Durango. When I asked for paperwork I was told it was mailed to me, and when I asked to see what they could provide to go over questions with, I was provided with one slip of loan paperwork. I have yet to see a copy of the paperwork I signed. During the deal that was being made on the car I felt backed into a corner. We had talked about prices, our price range, how much we would like for our trade, etc. We sat down with our sales representative and he only would provide us with two ranges, “You can take a payment in the 150’s or 170’s.” I was shocked because in my head those price ranges were not the cost of the vehicle. I wanted to know our purchase price, then I would talk payments. Multiple times our sales representative went to Dan trying to get two simple questions I had answered (what was the interest rate we were working with, and how much could they give us for this trade). They refused to answer this question, and as a result convinced me to sign a paper stating that if they could reach a deal of a payment in the 130’s twice a month I would buy the car that day. Knowing what I know now, I still could have turned down the deal that was offered. I was very unsatisfied when looking at the final cost, loan paperwork, and trade value, but I was under the impression that since I signed that simple promissory note that I had no more choice in the matter. I would have given anything to walk out at that moment and never deal with Chevrolet again, but the situation only escalated when I came back Monday afternoon to ask questions about what I had signed and why I did not received any paperwork that day. Monday evening I returned to the Chevrolet dealership in Canal Fulton with my father to review the paperwork and have a few questions answered. I expressed my concern to our sales representative, who then went and got Dan Buck. Dan found one page of our loan agreement and came over. His initial statement to me, “I am INSULTED that you would dare question my practices”. This continued with me trying to get questions answers, and him having no direct answer. The conversation got very heated, and we were asked to leave. We had no problem leaving, but I wanted to see paperwork. We were threatened to call the police, told that we should contact the Attorney General, laughed when we said we could contact our lawyers, and told he had more money then we could ever dream. Never once did he try to solve our problem, never once did he attempt to keep a customer, he continually mocked us and never acted in a professional manner that I would expect an owner of a General Motors company would act. I would still like to know when I will ever see paperwork for the new car I purchased, why he was unwilling to share this information when questioned, why my loan paperwork states that I owe 72 payments, but I was told I had to pay bi-weekly in 66. I would like to know how a man of his integrity ever became an owner of a General Motors dealership. I question the legality of his practices and know that I will never by another General Motors product again, unless I can be assured that businessmen of his lacking professional background have learned how to deal with customers and know that I will not be threaten with charges when I simply came in to ask him a question. I am a teacher and if I ever treated a student (my customer) with the same brutality I was treated with tonight, I would have been put in jail myself.
    • I completely agree with you and I have had the same issue as you have and I bought my vehicle 11/25/11. I have had no paper work accept the recept for my money i gave them for a down payment. I went back last thrusday and had tried talking to them about my fuel pump that was going out the day i bought the truck and they told me to take my business elsewhere. Well when my service engine soon light came on and the motor start making a "ticking noise" and the code on the scanner came up oxygen sensor, I went back to buck chevrolet to discuss the fact my motor was making noise, oxygen sensors where shot, fuel pumps failing, front end is clunking ,allignment is way off and speedometer is not calibrated. which tells me the vehicle wasnt "SAFETY INSPECTED" at all or they would of caught the blown ball joints, bad allignment, poor fuel pump, and not calibrated speedometer seeing as that is all SAFETY issues when selling a vehicle on at dealership and claiming it was "SAFETY INSPECTED" yet iv yet to see paper work for my loan,my warranty, the inspection. There service up there at DAN BUCK is terrible i wouldnt send my worst enemy there. Dan buck is extremely arragent and disrespectful. Because I am 21 years old he talks to me like im an idiot, I have went to school for 2 years to work on cars im not stupid when it comes to knowing when something wrong with them. He then got extremely irritated when i told him I wanted him yo hook up his Tech 2 scan tool to my truck to see if there has been any prior history of the codes comes up for my oxygen sensor, hism response was "yea but it will cost you" as he laughed at me. As he didnt no i do no the Tech 2 scanners can pull up the hsitory of prior codes and vehicle history i told him "well why not are you scared?" His response back was "not of you". when i told him i would be contacting the better business bureau and my attorney he laughed in my face and said "ill be seeing you in 60-90 days". Now my question is how would he no how long it takes for the court to schedule a court date?? probably because his poor service has put him in court more then one time because he seem very comfortable and not feared at all to going to court. Which i personally dont care I have contacted the better business bureau and my attorney and i would highly recommend you all do the same. I have read the comments on here from the plant manager and his comment and i about fell out of my chair laughing. That place is pathetic.

  • Buyer Beware, Don't waste your time

Salesman Johnny wasted away our Saturday. Walking back to our car after visiting Canal Days in Canal Fulton, I stopped to look at the used cars. Johnny gave me a price on the car I was looking at, he said it was on the internet for that price. When I asked if it was the best price he said we'd never lose a customer over the price, when you decide you want it I'll get you the best deal. I drove back to my home 20 minutes away and came back with my son so he could drive the car. Johnny made sure the car was washed and seats cleaned while I was gone. My son drove the car, we were ready to purchase it and suddenly it was no longer available to purchase! I am so angry, It appears he was never going to sell it to me for the price he gave me. I was there to purchase a car, but obviously Buck Chevy isn't interested in selling it. I would not recommend this dealer to ANYONE!! It was a lesson for my son, he got to see a dishonest sales practice in action! This is the worst experience I have ever had at a dealership. It's just wrong. My teenage son was ready to drive home his first car. Johnny stood there in front of that car and asked my son if he wanted to drive it home today, and asked me how we were going to pay etc. then said Ok let's go inside. When we went inside to purchase the car Johnny met with his sales manager and then informed us that the car wasn't available for purchase because a DEPOSIT was made via the internet. Johnny was suggesting they would call me next week to let me know if the car was available to purchase AS I WAS WALKING OUT THE DOOR!! I didn't stick around to find out what his game was, I don't believe it! WHY would an internet deposit take place while I was AT the dealership IN PERSON about to purchase that car. WHY not tell the person trying to place the deposit that someone is at the dealership to purchase the car, therefore that car isn't currently available! The sales manager could contact the person from the internet next week if we didn't buy! It was BAD business and that's all there is to it! During our visit, Johnny kept saying because your local it's all about you, we want you to be happy, however that didn't hold true when it came time to sell the car, because as this local person was about to purchase the car he then says an internet deposit just made this car unavailable until the internet person decides to buy! I call BS!

Me and my wife had been looking for a new car for quite a while. We don't have the best of credit, and had several bad experiences at other dealers who had try to take advantage of our situation. We found Buck Chevrolet through a friend of ours and set an appointment with Jonny D. He never judged us or treated us poorly. Jonny was honest and actually got us a lower monthly payment than three other dealers offering the same car! Thanks again Buck Chevrolet and Jonny D, we will send all our friends and family to you!

I saved up money for a very long time to trade in my very unsafe beater car for something more reliable that I would never have to worry about. We went in and they didn't have the cars that were listed online. They shoved me at a car that was well above my price range. I ended up purchasing the car under the impression that it would be safe and reliable. The car was terrible. It kept spinning out to the point where I did a 360 into another vehicle. This car spins on on hardly any snow and at low speeds. The tires are crap so that could be part of the problem. Still. The dealer definitely lied all throughout the process. They took forever to get the title to me. I am extremely upset with my entire experience with them. I wish I had my beater car back. Buying off of them was a huge mistake. The salesman was very shadey. Maybe one day karma will come to him when he is driving a cobalt in the snow.

My husband and I tried to buy a car from this dealership. We found some online that were in our price range and had the things we wanted. We called ahead and asked if the cars (by make, model, price, AND inventory #) were available, and were told that they were. When we arrived 20 minutes later, we were forced to wait for 45 minutes before anyone even spoke to us. A girl finally came up to us and we told her we had just called and were interested in two specific vehicles. She took us out to the lot and showed us similar vehicles which were priced at least $5k above the prices of the two we wanted to look at, but were older models and had far more miles on them. When we asked her about the two by inventory number, we were told that they'd been sold the day before. Interesting, since we asked about them specifically just an hour before. We finally got tired of being jerked around and left. My husband later did some research and discovered that the vehicles that they were advertising online had been sold MONTHS prior. Just to test his theory, he called back again a couple of days later and asked about the two vehicles (advertised at a very low price, of course) were available, and identified them by the make, model, price, inventory number and even color and were told that they were. Hoping that maybe a mistake had been made the last time we went out there, and still being willing to make a deal if those vehicles were available, we drove out there again, and got the exact same song and dance. Completely dishonest. They should be reported to the authorities and closed for illegal consumer fraud. Wish I'd known about the reviews on here before we went. Would have saved us a lot of time. I hope we can save someone else from the hassle and annoyance.
  • SHADY to say the least.... Much regret!

I went in to look at a used, and I stress the word usedddddd Chevrolet cobalt...2007... with over 60,000 miles. the advertised price was 11,990 on the window sticker. This car is nice, don't get me wrong... but it definitely has many flaws (including chipped paint in severalllll places, dings, scratches on the inside and out, etc.). The entire reason I was looking for another vehicle was because I was driving a brand new 2010 Jeep Patriot and I was looking for something a little better on gas and a little cheaper monthly payment. I found the vehicle I wanted while I was looking online. I drove 45 minutes out to the dealership and met with Nick. He showed me the car, let me test drive the car, and then at the end of the test drive he asked "so is this the car you'd like to drive home today?"; that question caught me a little off-guard, but then since I liked the car, and I was downgrading to a smaller, more fuel-efficient car, I was very interested. We went inside the dealership to talk more about numbers and to figure out the details. We sat down and Nick told me that the dealership had agreed to pay-off the remaining balance on my jeep. (But what they didn't tell me is that I would definitely be paying for that in the long run.) So being naive to the situation, I thought it was a good deal. I then began to fill out paperwork and sign for the Cobalt. After a very rushed process, we had signed all the paperwork and we were ready to leave. Before leaving, Nick informed us that because it was so late at the dealership, the people who needed to look over the paperwork were all gone for the day, but the papers we signed would be sent out in the next following days. Well, we left the dealership without any paperwork at all (mistake number one). Got home, and realized that there was no manual for the car or second set of keys. I e-mailed Nick and got a unworthy response which basically said that I was not going to receive either of those items. Couple days later, I was driving down the road, and my tire went flat.... It turns out that there was a screw in the tire, and since it had been driven for whatever length of time with it being deflated, it rubbed the entire inside wall of the tire out (thats the dealership story, so who knows if it is really true or not). They fixed the tire. [[[Three weeks go by....no paperwork has been received]]] After no paperwork showed up, I was beginning to get extremely irritated and decided to email Nick, yet again and he told me that they "had been sent out twice". What a lie. After finally receiving the paperwork, i noticed that it included nooooo carbon-copies which I had signed at the dealership, just regular computer copies. (So then what exactly is the point of carbon-copy paper?) After reading over the papers, I noticed several things that did not match up to what I was told initially at the dealership. #1. the price of the car at the dealership (and advertised online) was $11,990.... on paper = $13,500 #2. the day I bought the car, I agreed to the stupid bi-weekly payments through a scam of a company (equity-4-U).... of $150 every two weeks.... well somehow when i received my bill in the mail, it was for $155.65.... where did the extra $11 a month come from??????? #3. The day I bought the car I was given NO explanation as to what my interest rate would be, Nick fed me some bull line about a "grade" and I didn't find out the actual interest rate until weeks after the purchase. #4. Does it make sense to anybody else as to why I would be paying the same exact payment on a used car with higher miles as I did for a brand new Jeep??? When I told Nick that I needed my payments below $300 a month, he came back once with a payment that was significantly higher. the second time, he came back with two numbers, $137 or $150 bi-weekly payments... (one with an extended warranty, and one without) I opted to choose the $150 every two weeks, even though I stressed that I needed a lower payment, and felt rushed into thinking this was my only option. he did not give me what i asked for. he did not careeeeeee what i asked for. and the list goes on. i strongly discourage anybody from ever dealing with this shady, shady, shady place. do nottttttt put yourself through the same thing I have. they are out to get your money and they are going to say and do anything they possibly can to do so.

My family was treated well and we got the deal we wanted on a new Cruze. Dealership was clean and comfortable and the process was quick. Buck Chevy provided the info we need quickly and made sure we were happy a few days after we bought the car. We enjoyed the process. Our new Cruze needed some work after we bought the car and Al in Service was very nice.

Man, Jonny D. is quite the car salesman! There is not one question that I asked Jonny about Chevy cars that he didn't know the answer to! I left Buck Chevrolet feeling like a genius on Chevy's! Jonny talked the talk and walked the walk. He definitely went above and beyond for me. Jonny made all the cars sound awesome, so it was so hard to pick what car I wanted! I ended up choosing the 2013 Chevy Camaro and man, do I love it! The whole process was easy and a blast! Thank you Jonny! I strongly suggest everyone to go to Buck Chevrolet and ask for Jonny D.! You won't regret it!

Jonny got me an awesome deal on my Malibu, without having to go back and forth haggling. I can say I actually had a fun time. Thanks again Jonny and Buck Chevrolet!
