Ordering a 2015 STI
by 2015sti on 12/03/2014There is a reason Van Bortel is the third largest Subaru dealership in the US. No hassle and simple ordering of a high demand 2015 STI. These are all sold before they hit the dealers lot. Karl was a great salesmen that made the process… simple and easy. He was accessible via phone, email, and text. Honest and up front about delays and the status of my order, it is hard to not get frustrated waiting for almost five months, but having someone stay on contact and reply quickly to questions made it easy. I cannot recommend Van Bortel more and ask for Karl if you want an honest salesman.Great buying experience for 2015 Outback
by kevinrr on 11/19/2014Salesman was very helpful when I went for the initial test drive went by myself as they trusted me to return.Answered any questions I had at the time and placed an order for the 2.5 Limited with Eyesight and Nav. options.This was on August… 12,2014.Picked up the car on Nov. 15,2015 and it was worth the wait. The salesmen was very patient with me during the time between order and delivery as I often had questions.They also allowed me to swap out the original tires on the car for a set I purchased and took $200 off the sale price as well as getting a good deal on all weather floor mats.The salesman and business manager were not pushy or rude and it was the best new car buying experience I've had.Overall,I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking at purchasing a new or used car.Thank you kevinr for posting such a great review and telling us about your recent purchase experience! A Great Experience!

I bought the car in an hour and a half and went back the next morning to pick my car up. Jim Bertino was the sales person… and he was friendly and charming. My Subaru Legacy and Van Bortel
by rogerp2 on 11/11/2014This is the second new Legacy we have purchased from Van Bortel. It is truly a pleasure doing business with them. My wife and I love the Legacy . I would recommend Subaru and Van Bortel to everyone. As a side note I would like to say that… my 2011 Legacy was in a terrific accident and was totaled, but the driver left with non-life threatening injuries. I am sure the Subaru save the drivers life.Thank you for all of your positive review postings rogerp2! We appreciate your feedback!

Best Car Buying Experience Ever

After searching for an XV Crosstrek Limited pretty extensively in the Buffalo area, I contacted Van Bortel Subaru to see if they… had a similar car. They quickly placed an order for the car with the exact options that I wanted and it was delivered two weeks earlier than promised. This is my first stress-free car purchase and it was worth the quick drive to Victor to pick it up. There was no pressure but he and the other staff were still readily available to answer all questions. I have been there for service since buying as well, and the… service department is fantastic. Very eager to meet the customer's needs in regards to appt times and need of a loaner vehicle (warranty work). You can tell Van Bortel employees care about customer satisfaction and promoting Subaru and I can see why! (I have since fallen in love with subaru and the dealership and recommend them to anyone I can!)Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a great review! No-hassle, no games, buying process

Their quotes are consistent with (in some cases, below) the "target" or "true market value" prices suggested by car sites like Edmund's and KBB. The salesperson I worked with was helpful in… making sure I had the options I wanted. The business manager I worked with explained the "extra" packages without pressuring me too much. It's nice to have a dealer who is willing to take its 2%-5% profit and call it a day. No hassle, no pressure, no games.Great sales experience. No hassles

I was amazed at how smoothly the process went when I purchased my Impreza Premium back in May of 2010. My sales person, Vince B. made what traditionally can be an unpleasant experience,… an experience unlike any other I have had while purchasing a vehicle. Because of that experience, there was no other choice when I decided to trade the 2010 in for a 2013 Impreza limited. A quick phone call to Vince in May started the ball rolling, and a visit to the dealership in June was to seal the deal. As I recalled my first purchase from Van Bortel, I expected nothing less than a friendly, non-threating, respectful approach to the purchasing experience, and once again Vince was top-notch. The trade in value for the 2010 was fair by most automobile value references, and in typical Van Bortel, I knew exactly what the price was to be for the selected model. To be sure that I had received the best possible price, I had a local dealer go at it, and they were 750 dollars off the mark with their best offer. And so, the Subie was ordered. In what turned out to be a highly unusual turn of events, the delivery of my vehicle took much longer than both I and Van Bortel anticipated, due to model year turnover and an adjustment in the Navi unit. Vince was subjected to almost daily e-mails from me, and he patiently and professionally answered all of them in a timely manner. When the day finally arrived, I received a 2014 AND the trade-in value held as negotiated in June. There is no question that this is a unique dealership who works very hard at keeping their clientele happy, and, maintaining a relationship whereby they (we) will return. So it was no surprise as we signed the many sheets of paperwork, that it too, was a 'different" experience than most. Kudos to Tammi S. for her professionalism and her demeanor while completing the paperwork. I will absolutely, positively buy from Vince and Van Bortel when the time comes around to buy my next Subaru. It will be my SIXTH Subaru vehicle. I laid out the desired terms, advised them of my (favorable) credit stats and so on, and asked the salesman (Shawn) if we could negotiate a deal. Absolutely, he… assured me after discussion of model/trim. I also let him know that I was not in dire straits and had several offers from the competition on similar vehicles at competitive terms. I gave Van Bortel first crack at the deal since I preferred to drive a Subaru and had read good things about the dealership. Again, no problem. Let's make a deal! About a week later I went in for the credit check and the business office meetup. I brought to the table exactly as I had originally advised salesman Shawn... better stats even. Oh, but now the terms have changed from the original offer. Of course they have. Naturally, Shawn and the manager (Peter) were apologetic and assured me that they never meant to mislead, there was confusion on their end, et al. I needn't worry though... I could still drive that terrific car away once I had agreed to the terrible new terms provided by Kevin in the business office! Yeah right. All in all, several hours of family time and a bunch of gas wasted. I can only recommend this dealership if you are not at all concerned with the terms involved with purchasing or leasing your vehicle, or if you simply enjoy being taken advantage of. For a dealership that touts themselves as different from the rest they seem par for the course as far as the Rochester area goes. Looks like some national competition is coming to the area soon which is terrific. I won't ever buy a car in this area again unless it's a firesale... deals abound from motivated sellers in PA or the southeast. Thanks for reading.Fantastic Car Buying Experience

Sales Persons at other Dealerships are just waiting for you to drive onto their lot. And, without loss of any time, are at your car door. NOT… at Van Bortel. The sales persons are very low key, respectful, polite and NEVER pushy!!! You can walk freely throughout the car lot and feel free to look at every car without anyone looking over your shoulder. I bought a new Subaru at Van Bortel's with NO pressure whatsoever. The best buying experience I have ever had in my entire life. Kitty V., owner, is one amazing business owner! A friend of mine buys only from Van Bortel. I went to their website and built my car so I knew exactly what it was going to… cost -- and it was a pleasant surprise to see the savings! Let me tell you, it was worth the 2 1/2 hour drive. I overheard another customer say they drove 4 hours to get here. Their prices are great, they are upfront about posting the MSRP for models and options and then giving you their prices. Their posted price for the model I wanted was below what Consumer Reports listed as the starting point for negotiations. This dealership is all about volume and that's how they make their money -- not by selling a couple of cars at the MSRP. Everyone was pleasant to deal with and the test drive was relaxing and fun because you don't have salesperson talking in your ear the entire time. No hidden agendas here. Test drive locally, but make the trip here -- you'll be glad you did. To make it even more relaxing, there is a refreshment station with beverages and snacks.Best car buying experience ever !
