After a few emails we agreed on the price. I went to the dealership and even though the salesman was out that day I just went to the sales manager and told him I was there to make a deal and I had an agreement via the internet. He asked for my name and pulled up the deal on his computer. Everything matched so I signed and went home with my new Crosstour. The replacement salesman Bob was very professional and really took his time explaining all the features. It was a pleasant experience and I would recommend this dealership.

  • For experienced Honda lease customers

5 out of 5 starsby karters on 03/01/2010

Here's the scenario. The economy is bad and car leases are nothing like they were back in the good old old days of 2007. You are an experienced Honda lease customer so you know they always have lease deals coming. They are as predictable as a K-mart blue-light special. Your 2007 Honda Pilot 4WD EX-L has only about 32K miles on it with 2 months to go on a 36K, 36 month lease. You're under on your miles, you are a non-smoker, and the vehicle is clean and well maintained. YOU know how to go around and find a dealer who is hungry and will offer you equity trade-in credit in writing, right? Did you know you can do that? I have done it numerous times and either gotten the offer in writing, and/or gotten a check handed to me to use any way I wanted. Remember, this is your equity. It's your reward for keeping the car in such good shape. You'll get nothing from Honda if you simply turn it back in. At that point, the dealer could decide to buy it and make a large profit selling it off his lot. Remember, he buys it from Honda for much less than you do. The good news here is if/when you call Honda Finance and ask for your lease buy-out figure, you can also ask for the dealer's buy-out figure. Do you know how many people NEVER even try doing this and therefore lose possibly thousands in equity credit they could have put in the bank or used to drastically lower the payments on their replacement vehicle? How many times have you simply walked away from an expired lease without even asking if any dealer wants to buy it? If so, you walked away from your own earned money. This dealer was THE ONLY one in our area who aggressively wanted to buy my Pilot in writing, AND give me the best discounted price on my Crosstour, and do a sign-and-drive lease, and do it with no deposit, AND hold the car for me (and honor all agreements) for two weeks for my convenience. EVERY other dealer within a 15 mile radius thought I was crazy, told me I would never get that kind of deal, told me I was setting myself up for a bait and switch, pointed at their own huge used car inventories filled with 07 Pilots, tried to sell me Crosstours at full list or with maybe a 500 dollar discount, would not write a sign and drive lease because "Honda doesn't allow that anymore", told me Crosstours were back-ordered and therefore getting premium above list prices, or told they were not interested in my Pilot and would not take it back because they did not sell it originally. Many other dealers were quite nasty to me once they realized and had so much information. These types of dealers don't want you toy know this. If you have heard any of these excuses or sales pitches, you went to the wrong dealer (shame on them) AND you did not do your homework and preparation thoroughly (shame on you). Remember, you CAN get equity credit if it is honestly deserved and the market warrants it. You might have to work to find a dealer who wants your car, but it is worth the effort if it gets you perhaps a thousand bucks or so in your pocket.

  • Keep driving

1.6 out of 5 starsby jenwilhelm on 02/22/2010

Be certain that you are sure of your purchase before making a downpayment. They take it out of your account within 24 hours, but good luck getting it refunded. Even the "managers" can't seem to make things happen. I am on 2 weeks now waiting for a refund and have gotten nothing but a run around. There are plenty of dealerships that are reputable and come highly recommended. This place was a mistake.

  • My New Car

    4.8 out of 5 starsby valeriee1124 on 01/13/2010

The sale was great, great prices and gave me a lot of guidance for my first car. Although the process took a bit longer than I expected when I went back to pick it up, it was all worth the wait! The people spoke to me with the simple terms I needed, so I could understand what was going to happen, and how things worked. I absolutely love my car, and couldn't be happier. Also, I received 3 year roadside assistance and free replace key for being a first time buyer! It pays off to be nice, because it always comes back to you! Also, they weren't like other dealerships where they nag you and make you feel like you're being forced to do something, it was a comforting environment.

  • The best Honda dealer

    5 out of 5 starsby honda__owner on 12/11/2009

I was in the market for a new Honda Fit Sport in a rare color. I visited most of the Honda dealers within 50 miles of Jersey City. All had terrible customer service, sparse inventory, opaque pricing, and pushy sales people. Despite all this, I finally left a deposit at another Honda dealer who kept changing the expected delivery date and who had added lots of nuisance fees to my invoice. Then I received an email from Tim Hlavenka at Garden State Honda asking if I was still looking for a car. I explained to him the nightmare I was having. He assured me that if I met with him he could treat me right. I am SO happy I did. Tim was very professional and courteous, and he offered me top dollar for my trade in, a lower price for the car, and removed almost all the extra fees. Even now that I have picked up the car, he is still following up with me to make sure I am continuing to have a good experience with my extra parts installations. I would recommend that anyone looking for a Honda go to him first and save yourself the headache of going anywhere else. Honda USA Corp., I hope you are reading this... you should have Tim teach the rest of your dealerships the proper way to treat a customer.

  • GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH DEALERSHIP

    4.4 out of 5 starsby maryb23 on 11/29/2009

Second time I bought a car at this dealership. I must say my experience there this past weekend was fantastic! I definitely will be going there soon to trade in our second vehicle!

  • Great dealership - straight forward, no trick, big inventory, will be back!

5 out of 5 starsby oldwang on 08/31/2009

I had good experience with this dealer. I decided to buy a CRV for "cash-for-clunkers". I send thru edmunds.com to 4 nearby dealers for price before I left office Friday afternoon, and got call from this dealership in a few minutes - on my way home, with price quote. Later I also got quote from two other dealers, one of them looks similar. On Saturday, we went to the second dealer (closer to my home), then we found that they need to add destination fee ($700+). Then we went to Garden State Honda, they removeed $299 documentation fee which I thought I did not hear, then deal that other dealers did not even want to match! Then as the Senate gave additional $2B to the program, all of a sudden, the is a shortage of fuel economical cars, and my friends of similar situation could not find the same car or could not get the price as good. I started to worry, but the dealership said that the deal has been signed, and my car is garanteed. I paitently waited for several weeks. When I called the CARS.GOV people, I refused to give them the dealer's name, because I felt that they want to blame the dealerships who did not do anything wrong, while themselves were slow in processing and paying the dealers the "clunker rebate". I got the car, happy, and I like this dealership. Very straight forward, no trick, big inventory, and friendly. I don't like the old fashion bargining tricks. I'll come back when I need another Honda for my daughter!
  • Sales A+, Finance F-

    3.3 out of 5 starsby kattd1977 on 06/05/2009

Let me start by commending my sales person, Hector Aviles. He made the buying process easy and treated me with courtesy and respect throughout. He answered all my questions, addressed all my concerns and went above and beyond to make me happy. He was nothing but helpful and professional the whole way through. He is an asset to your dealership and completely proves the 'sleazy car salesman' stereotype wrong. I hope that all my future car buying experiences are like this one. I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone I know to go to Hector if they are interested in purchasing a vehicle. On the complete other end of the spectrum was the finance department. I first spoke to Isabel (I did not get her last name). At first she was helpful and professional, but once she found out I was not interested in purchasing any of the extra options for protection that she was offering, her demeanor changed. She became short with me, seemed very visibly frustrated and gave me the impression that I was wasting her time. She also lied to me about the terms of my loan, she said that I could not do a 36 month finance because my payments could not exceed $200 a month even though she had offered me a package of protection that would have made my payments close to $250 a month. She just did not want to offer me 36 months because I wasn't buying what she was selling. When I called Honda financial directly they said I could have done 36 months if I wanted to and they did not know why she lied to me. She also had her manager, Mr. Joe Choy, come out to try to convince me to buy other options. He proceeded to badger me for over 15 minutes even though I gracefully declined to accept anything at least a dozen times. He insinuated that I was stupid and uninformed for not wanting the extended warranty, told me I was wrong in belief that I felt I could get a comparable warranty from another source. He rolled his eyes at me and when it became apparent to him that he could not convince to buy anything he gave me attitude, snatched the papers from the desk and practically stormed out of the room. I understand that these people in finance might need to sell me these options to make commission but they should not disrespect customers who are not interested in any of the things they are offering. It seems to me that once they knew I would not be putting money in their pocket, I went from being a customer to being a nuisance that just wanted to push out the door as rudely as possible. After the experience I had on the sales end, the finance end was a real let down. Maybe their training should include how to deal with the fact that some customers, for whatever personal reasons they have, might not be interested in extra services and that the fact that they are not interested does not make them less of a customer. Over all, I would give the sales department an A+ and your finance department an F. I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone I know to go through the finance department, they were rude, unprofessional and a huge disappointment.
  • I recommend this dealer.

3.7 out of 5 starsby mohdean on 04/13/2009

Good Customer Service, Friendliness and Overall experience. On price I had to go a little beyond my anticipated budget, not so good, especially given the Economy. Negotiations were pleasant, and hassle free, with understanding and attention to my needs. I walked away with a feeling of satisfaction that I got my money's worth, all said and done I am happy with the vehicle I bought, and my experience: to put this into perspective, consider that I hate dealing with car salesmen -then again, who doesn't.
  • The best experience I have EVER HAD buying a car was at Garden State Honda!

5 out of 5 starsby JoeMartin on 01/29/2009

This is the second car my family has purchased from this Dealership over the last 6 months. To date, my Aunt took delivery of a new Honda Accord 4 sedan, and I have purchased a used Honda Civic coupe for my daughter. Both purchase experiences have been outstanding. Everyone at the Dealership went out of their way to exceed our expectations. Simply put, if you are in the market of a new or used vehicle, Garden State Honda is a Dealership you need to visit. Their price, service and selection are superior to anything I have EVER seen! Thank you Garden State Honda!!!
  • Stay Away From This Dealer!!!

    1 out of 5 starsby susanp219 on 01/18/2009

Classic case of bait and switch. No integrity--no trust with the dealer! Angie Martinez in the internet group quoted me a price for a 2009 Accord. The price was sent to me in writing via e mail. I even called and spoke to her manager before I went in to look at the car and he confirmed that this was in fact the price they would sell the car for. When I got to the showroom they would not honor the price even though it was in writing. I wasted 2 hours of my time there. I'm sure this is not how all Honda dealers operate. This is the kind of dealer that gives all car dealers and car salemen their slimy reputation. Customers should think twice before doing business with this dealer.
    • I 100 percent agree with you, dont ever go to this dealer, not take ur car to get fix, its like ur paying them to ruin it even more. Rude people, stupid service, lies after lies, when u walk u pretty much just gave them all ur money away. yeah nice setting cuz tats how they lure u!

  • Could not say no...

    4.5 out of 5 starsby kronos330 on 12/24/2008

We were shopping online for months and in dealerships trying to find a price that would not break the bank. We shopped at all the Honda places on Rt 22. They were all crooks. I gave Garden state a try. They gave me a price on an Civic 08 floor model that I could not say no too. I was looking for a used car but got a new car for less. Jimmy "D" was awesome and Ali in Financing was great. I got a car under the price I was looking to pay and on a better model than I wanted. You can't beat that.

  • Great Car, Lousy Service

3 out of 5 starsby leahdawn on 10/17/2008

I bought a Honda Fit from these guys in Sept '08. I am extremely happy that I bought car, and I was able to purchase a significant warranty that will cover me pretty comfortably for the next 7 years. But my sales experience left me hoping that I will never need to buy a car ever again. My salesman Dave O falsified (or lied) about many details of my purchase (price, interest rate, features on the vehicle) He left all of the price sheets in the window, so I had to rip them off, and let me leave without a functioning radio. He also promised me a full tank of gas but only gave me half. I had to return the next day to get the radio fixed and the guys left me for over 3 hours while they worked on it. Thankfully it's a good car and I'm happy to never return there and see them ever again.
  • Great place to buy and service

5 out of 5 starsby clowr on 10/17/2008

I moved to New Jersey in January and needed to find a dealer to service my Honda Fit, and Garden State Honda is near my house. Shortly after I moved down to New Jersey I had several recalls that needed to be taken care of,that could not be taken care of at that dealer ship, and the service provider assisted me in taking care of them quickly at another dealership. When my Fit died on Long Island, Garden State assisted me in purchasing a new Civic and gave me a great discount because I was an established customer at their Service Department. The sales man and service provider were exceptional and I will return for future purchases. I will only go to Shadi for my services because he is very friendly and quick.

I had a great experience with Garden State Honda. It was great consumer service and I love my car. I will definitely refer my friends and family to this dealership and my sales associate was Dave Russo. I will definitely purchase my next vehicle from there as well!

Had always been a horror show but is recently under new management, so I stopped in while looking for a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Unfortunately, the new management is no better. They were just as disappointing as DCH in Paramus. They asked for a credit card, as a show of good faith, before they would discuss pricing. After getting insulted by two Honda dealers I decided to go with [violative content deleted]
  • Excellent, First Class Dealer; *****

    5 out of 5 starsby mack22 on 06/24/2008

I just (06/23/08) purchased a new 2008 Honda EX-L Coupe from Garden State Honda (GSH). I live in upstate New York and had to deal with a distant dealer (100 miles) because the Civic EX-L coupe is very hot and difficult to get and dealers won't swap them. So I had to make the entire deal over the phone. I was very skeptical and concerned not having seen the dealership or the people, but I really wanted this vehicle (taffeta white and ivory leather seats. Also I wanted some options including fog lights so the salesman, Vince said once they installed the options I couldn't get a refund of my downpayment. If I wanted to do the whole deal with one trip to GSH they would have to install the options at least a day before I picked it up. I took the plunge and made the deal and made arrangements to get down there (two taxi legs and a Trailways bus drive. The offer they gave me was about $300 less than local offers (and the locals couldn't find the vehicle). When my last taxi drove me up to the dealer my skepticisim toned down; the dealership was beautiful ! A first class, professional looking place - from the managers in business suits to the very neat cleaning ladies. When I met Vince, who I thought would be some kind of mafia hit man, he turned out to be a very nice gentleman. They worked me through the process quickly which mirrored my original visual impression. Every person was very courteous and professional. Vince even offered to over-night mail my NY plates to me since I'm from another state. Normally custermers pick them up there. A very fine experience dealing with GSH - good price, no hassels, and fine people. Oh, the car - great, luxurious, economical and beautiful.
  • Best Dealer Ship

5 out of 5 starsby caesarfl on 05/12/2008

This was the best experience i have ever had at a dealership. Everyone was so pleasant and made me feel at home. My salesperson gave the most professional walk around and offeres a test drive right after. After the test drive i was pretty much sold and just had to talk to the finance manager. He gave me many different finance options with different warranty information. I was very happy with my shopping experience at the dealer. I highly recommend Garden State Honda to everyone that is looking for a new Honda. Everyone is so professional and you will be appreciated as a customer.

    1.5 out of 5 starsby car_nut3 on 08/14/2007

i bought a honda civic and gave them my check on a saturday morning. their dealership was broken into that evening and the theifs stole the safe with the days proceeds in it from all the sales including my check. they called me up a few days later and wanted me to go to the bank and get them another bank check. i thought i would be a nice guy even tho i didnt have to. after all, it wasnt my fault the dealership had no alarms and the safe was stolen. the bank told me that they couldnt issue a new bank check and it was up to the dealership to file a claim with the bank and after 90 days the bank would issue a check to them. i even gave them a photo copy of the check for the car even tho i didnt have to. i went back and told them and all of a sudden we were not friends anymore. they told me they were going to take me to court which i found ludacris. the sales manager joe has a $20,000 gold and diamond rolex on his wrist. ill bet he sure had to screw many customers tol get that watch. it was just to much of a high pressure dealership that wanted to "move so metal". all the salemen seem greasy and shady. i guess joe the salesmanager likes to model his salemen after himself. never would i recommend this dealership to anyone. their sevice department is ten miles away off of route 21 in passaic even tho the sales office is on route 3.
