Great Car Buying Experience!

My consultant Greg L. was incredibly helpful and informative through every step of the process including the test drive, pricing,… warranty, financial arrangements, insurance and state registration title and plates. Greg L. even helped me turn in the rental at a local agency. Greg's dedication to his clients has earned my future business and great recommendations to all my friends, family and associates.Good experience, no hard sell, got in the car quickly

John was honest, kind and he gave me a great price on a wonderful car! Buying a car is not one of my favorate things to… do, but John made this such an easy transaction that I acutally enjoyed myself and I am leaving with an awesome car and a new friend. I will only deal with John from now on.Do NOT Buy Here
by marilyn_s on 10/04/2010I received a settlement from a car that was totaled and wanted to pay cash for a new Honda Accord. I live in NY but got a supposed good deal with Honda Universe by phone. They couldn't tell me the exact price so I couldn't get a bank check.… They assured me if my credit was good they would accept a personal check or they would actually deliver the car to me in Long Island as long as I came in to pick out the car and sign the paperwork. Once there, they told me I could finance the car and just pay it off when I got the bill and I wouldn't be charged any interest. I stupidly believed them and took the car home. A month later, I got my bill from Honda Financing, paid it in full, and was charged $156 in interest. Apparently, interest is charged from the day you sign the finance form. They knew very well I'd be charged but lied to me to make the sale. I spoke to Mr. Cubano, the General Manger, and he told me I should have made the first payment, and then paid it in full the following month; then I wouldn't have been charged interest. He explained to me, "that is how loans work." Honda Financing (and common sense) told me that, of course, was not true. I called Mr. Cubano a second time and he repeated what he told me the first time. So either he is very stupid to believe this story or he thinks I am very stupid to believe it. How can a big company like this, hire a man with no integrity. Do yourself a favor. Do NOT buy here. They are all [violative content deleted] from the top on down.Unhappy
by christopher_l on 07/26/2010In February, I went into Honda Universe to purchase a car. This was an out-of-state sale, and the initial contact was online and over the phone. I had them read the VIN number over the phone to get a new insurance card. The first thing… I did when I met with the salesman was to hand him a copy of my insurance card so that he could verify the VIN number. He did so, got his supervisor to look at it, made copies of it, and called up my insurance company to verify it and FAX them another one, but then asked me to add the new vehicle to it. That was the only vehicle on the card. The salespeople seem to get confused easily. In signing the final paperwork, many pages were presented, including one for window etching, which was something they said they did to all the vehicles. After driving back to New York, I noticed that the etching paperwork was incomplete, and verified that the car windows were not etched. A couple of phone calls later verified on their end that they had not done any etching. Several more phone calls later, and the response I got was that I should incur the expense of driving back to them so that they could etch my windows. Phone calls to the manager and a letter have gone with no response. I did not want my windows etched, I did not ask for it, and more importantly, I did not receive it, but they did charge me for it. Their desire for additional dealer profit is too much. Oh, and my insurance company issued me a new card several weeks later, as the number the dealer read to me, and later verified was not the correct one. Avoid.Avoid at all costs!
by mez728 on 07/21/2010Keep in my mind that I am a RETURNING customer to Honda Universe and leasing my second consecutive car with them. Before returning our first leased vehicle, my wife stopped by and spoke to Bob Reyes, a salesman. The car had a scratch and… dent on the side of it that I was going to have repaired. Bob inspected it and told my wife not to bother because if we lease with them again the damage wouldn't matter because they would cover any damage, over mileage fees, etc. up to $1500.00. A few days later I returned with the vehicle and Bob checked it again, saying there was less than $1500.00 damage and they would take care of it. During negotiations on the new vehicle Bob again assured me that this was Honda's policy and they would be taking care of the costs so I leased a another vehicle with them. Naturally, when the the bill came from Honda for damage of $1200.00 (under the 1500.00 barrier) they refused to pay it! Now Bob Reyes who was an all knowing expert when selling me the new vehicle and inspecting it twice now says "hey, I'm not an inspector, I didn't know". He just completely lied through his teeth. Things went from bad to worse when I got the GM on the phone. He told me because they were losing money on my deal and because Bob didn't write anything in the agreement about their $1500 policy they were not going to honor the deal. When I told him that's not what was agreed to and wanted out of the deal he laughed and said if i don't pay they'll just repossess. Then he told me he had more important things to take care of then me, a loyal, returning customer. Am following up with BBB and other sources, but please avoid these lying [violative content deleted] at all costs!STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALER
by njwatch on 04/10/2010They lured me into this dealership promising they would order a Honda Pilot in the color I was looking for. I ordered the vehicle in late Jan., then they screwed up and told me the vehicle was coming in sooner, then it wasn't. 8 weeks later… vehicle came in and up until the taking delivery of the vehicle the dealership became very evasive and they almost backed out of the deal. Salesman Brian Lipman is an ok guy but he wasn't an expert about the vehicle options& details and in addition on several times when I tried to reach he said he was too busy with customers. I assume spending $40k on a Pilot didn't qualify to get timely responses from a customer service perspective. Greg Kemp-General Mgr-tried to come off as a hero saying to me he was giving me the vehicle as negotiated but I felt he was trying to frustrate me and hope I would back out of the deal so they could get more money from another customer. In fact 3 days prior to taking delivery Greg told me to my face he was considering backing out of the deal that was agreed upon-can you imagine a dealer not getting the best of a customer. He comes off rude, insensitive and a [violative content deleted]. The only beings he should be managing are lab rats. I take the delivery of the vehicle and before I could sign the papers here comes the finance guy Trevor Cutter trying to sell me an extended warranty indicating Greg Kemp wanted to make things right - he was giving me an extended warranty for $2400 + tax and I could only purchase the ext. warranty thru him-point of sale according to him. I agreed to the warranty because it had a 60 day money back feature. The next day had offers from other Honda dealers selling me the same exact warranty anywhere from a low of $1200 - $ 1800 no where near what he sold me-ripoff and cancelled the ext. warranty thru Honda Universe... Then I asked them to install a Honda accessory (remote starter) so it would be installed at time of delivery and they charged me $599 + tax for an aftermarket starter (Avital) that is not warrantied by Honda and costs $84.99 at Best Buy.com.-another rip off. Why they wouldn't install a genuine Honda part on a new vehicle otherwise has me sideways. I could have saved money and taken the vehicle to any local tire/alarm place to have a starter installed for much much less.. Any Honda dealer I previously had been to all showed me a Genuine Honda accesssory order book. I've contacted the dealer about the whole bait and switch issue with the starter and they're not calling me back. In addition have contacted the State Attorney General's Office, BBB, Corporate Honda, American Express Auto Buying Referral website. Trust me you don't want to do business with this dealer....WORSE DEALERSHIP WORSE MANAGER !!!

I signed all papers and deposit my Money to pickup a car that Liked on a later date and when reached to pick it up, The price automatically went up and… when I tried to argue that the sales manager Greg Camp walked me out of the door very rudely. Sales person was nice but the Manager Greg Camp is very rude with everyone. So the bottom line is NEVER NEVER NEVER visit this place and trust on them. No matter what.Worst Experience Ever

So they sat me down and tried to make a deal. I thought it was an okay deal, I put a check down, was… going to make a sale, left for a test drive came back the price went up. I told them I could continue with the sale and left, forgot about my check, and went out of town. Came back they cashed my check and refused to give me my money back. They told me I should have put a stop payment on it. These people are [violative content deleted]. They are all, they smile in your face and try to take advantage of you. The GM at Honda Universe and the sales rep was very rude, and they ignored my phone calls everytime i called. I eventually had to go down there and have someone else go in first to get the GM out. This process was very ridiculous.lost an easy sale
by garra3566 on 08/22/2008I LIVE IN OLD BRIDGE NJ and was looking for a used accord 2004 i was approached by a spanish sales person who said take a sit no name given i told him what i wanted and was ready to but i had my trade down and had a capital one pre… approve he laugh and told me for 13k i could get nothing maybe a 2000 then walk away from me i explain a 4cyl would be ok . i explianed i can get an 08 for 22k im look for a deal today and went back to bs on the phone no salesman ship at this dealer . i waste my time and gasPersonal Exerience

The salesman that confronted me was Brian who listened to what I had in mind and showed me exactly what I wanted. By the… end of my experience at Honda Universe, I felt comfortable talking about cars and why I was looking for a new vehicle. The whole thing was very personable and Brian made my visit delightful; he is not your average car salesman he is the best I have ever come across. I highly recommend getting Brian as the salesman to go to.Personal Experience

The salesmas that confronted me was Mr. Levine who listened to what I had in mind… and showed me possible selections that I may like. By the end of my experience at Honda Universe, I felt comfortable talking about cars and why I was looking for a new vehicle. The whole thing was very personable and Mr. Levine made my visit delightful; he is not your average car salesman.Usually hate car buying

When I went to Honda Universe I expected the process to be very long, boring and having salesman try to talk me into buying a more expensive car. But when I went there John helped me… purchase the car that I wanted and he didn't try to pressure me into buying something else. He made purchasing the vehicle very relaxing and entertaining. Also the finance department was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this salesman and dealership to anyone looking for a new car!John M.

I was pretty upset and was not looking forward to the insane cost of repair, even with my insurance, the deductable was killer.
