Love my car, but not this Dealership
by Dinks on 09/02/2025Came to this dealership as part of a Big Box Store Auto Buying Program. Told them this was my 3rd auto buying program purchase (to let them know in advance that I know how this SHOULD work). Told them exactly what I was looking for. After… a test drive, they tried to sell me a model with options that I wasn't interested in and told me the one I wanted was already sold. Put down a deposit after agreed upon price and after finding another car. Sales did not disclose a $395 fee for a bogus VIN tag add-on, rather discovered at delivery! Asked for $0 deductible extended warranty, at delivery it was noted at $100 per. Offered a protection package. Declined it, but when I mentioned I was a Big Box member, only then was I offered the discounted price that Big Box members are entitled to! What?! This isn't how an auto buying program dealership should do business. Luckily, I was able to steer my mother away from this dealership to another nearby Toyota dealership for her new 2025 Camry XLE....with no "mandatory" VIN tags either! Make your own decision as to whether this is the way you want to be treated.Thank you for sharing your experience. Give yourself a break
by Laurie B on 03/28/2025Just UGH... went in to buy TWO 2022 Toyota Highlanders with cash and a 2013 Subaru Outback as a trade-in. BEWARE: THEY WONT BUDGE OFF THEIR ONLINE PRICES. I asked if they would bargain BEFORE I went and was told that they would do that once… I was there!! NOPE. Only 2k trade-in value on my 2013 Subaru with a NEW TRANS! I got a "WE OWE YOU" slip for an extra key that has to be made by a traveling key maker as apparently it's too expensive to have one made at their Toyota dealership (their words not mine)? I'm so tired.....My kid was in an accident and I wanted to get him in a safer car and upgrade mine. If you think haggling is possible here, GOOD LUCK. THEN, they ran a hard check on my credit!!! Wtaf I'm paying cash?! Then The FINANCE OFFICER screamed in my face when I told him I'M ONLY HERE BECAUSE I WANT A SAFE CAR FOR ME AND MY KID-- He says-- I'VE HAD IT WORSE!! WHAT??? WE SHOULD HAVE WALKED OUT BUT I LOVE MY KID MORE THAN I DISLIKE THIS DEALERSHIP AND HE NEEDED A SAFE CAR. THEY ALSO PROMISED TO FILL UP EACH CAR. WE DROVE HOME ON EMPTY in both cars. THANKS for the WORST car buying experience in my 50 some years of buying cars, ELGIN TOYOTA. "DONT RECOMMEND" IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. 🤬 **BTW, Check them out on Yelp. 2.2 star rating there. They ASKED me to write a review here. While I was languishing in the waiting room for hours waiting on FINANCE. Umair is great but little else is worthwhile
by LJ on 04/26/2024First I'd like to thank Edmunds for pointing me here straight from Elgin's survey form lol, really convenient way to let other people know about the shadiness of Elgin Toyota. Buying a car is painful, but Elgin was just extra painful. They… and their sales rep did not disclose two very big problems with the car that became evident after driving it off the lot, and entire bucket seat is jammed and the tension cable is snapped, and the automatic sliding power door went out on passenger side. All of this of course after buying a Platinum certification that doesn't cover any of this. For $32,000 we got a car that has no floor matts (Toyota upcharge $170), no second key fob ($400 upcharge), no front plate mount becuase our sales rep told us he "couldnt put the plates on the front" so I just did it myself back home ($50 for plate kit), and an entire second row seat that is inoperable and broken sliding power door. Had I known any of these things prior (or on the listing which didn't mention any of it) I would've walked out or never bothered to go to Elgin in the first place. This review is two stars because their sales manager Umair is a God send and actually helped immensely in getting past three "internet sales reps" on the phone that delayed me all day. He helped us get a wire transfer to secure the car from out of state and gave great numbers to help us figure out our budget ahead of time. Of course when we came in none of the Elgin sales reps knew anything about the quote Umair had made so our rep bumbled around for another hour wasting time. Umair gives this dealership an extra star entirely on his own. So I wouldn't recommend Elgin to anyone, although you may be able to get a good deal if you just do your homework and catch their tactics on the spot. Be wary.I appreciate you leaving this honest feedback about your experience. We appreciate any and all feedback, as it allows us to continue to grow and improve as a dealership.
