Stay Away - Buyer Beware
by jfktucson on 06/24/2009There is absolutely nothing redeeming about Dobbs Honda. Their salespeople are the stereotypical sleazy, misleading, pushy sort, and I will never buy a car from them. Both my girlfriend and I have been to Dobbs on separate occasions (and… dealt with different salespeople), and both of us walked away unhappy. To begin with, the salesmen are insulting and patronizing. When I arrived the other day, I was immediately accosted by a salesman, who I politely told that I would like to walk around the lot on my own for a bit before discussing specific cars. I asked for his card and assured him that I would find him when the time was right. He made a back-handed comment at me, something to the effect of "Looking and thinking never won any wars. If that's the way you want to play it, though, fine." He then proceeded to follow me around the lot anyway, inserting himself into private, non-car-related conversations between my girlfriend and me, and generally being a nuisance. When I finally told him which car I was interested in, he refused to let me test drive until he had completed his hard sell on other models that were out of my price range and in which I was not interested. Then, the test drive...When he wasn't running his mouth, bad-mouthing other dealerships in town, he would mess with the radio and A/C, presumably to keep the cabin as loud as possible, so I couldn't listen to the engine or ambient noise. Even after I would switch off the radio, he would find some excuse to talk about one of its features and would turn it back on. What a pain. Still, I figured I would give him the benefit of the doubt and talk numbers. He ran through every stereotypical car dealer trick (e.g. going off to talk to someone after every sentence, pushing options I didn't want, focusing on monthly payments, rather than car price, withholding information, acting as though I was wasting his time). The whole process was just a drag. When I told him I was leaving to explore other options, he insulted me again (albeit in a relatively subtle, playful way) and ran his mouth for a while longer. Earlier, I had made the mistake of giving him my phone number (don't know why - it just happened), and he quite literally called my cell BEFORE I HAD EVEN DRIVEN OFF THE LOT. He called me 3 times the following morning. Then, when I told him I had decided to buy elsewhere, he became rude. To add insult to injury, he then found it necessary to call me later and leave an irate voicemail because I "wasn't honest" with him and wasted his time. All in all, Dobbs is a joke. Don't even get me started on the bizarre bait-and-switch financing baloney they tried to pull on my girlfriend earlier in the year. Stay away. Stay far, far away. Oh, and the dealer-installed options they add to the cost of every vehicle are ridiculous. I know all dealers do this to a degree - and why wouldn't they, it's pure profit - Dobbs' prices were especially egregious. Their window etching charge, for example, was more than twice that of their primary competitor, and their floor mat charge was more than twice the cost of buying directly from Honda. Just save yourself the grief. Avoid these guys like the plague. I wish I could give zero stars.Where not to buy a vehicle
by stevenmcgraw on 03/13/2008On 8 march my wife and I entered Dobbs Honda to view used automobiles. We were approached by a sales person and I told him that I was not here to purchase and that I had a few other vehicles that I wanted to view at other dealers before I… made a purchase; I then asked him to show us available selections. We did find a vehicle that interested us and was asked in to the office to “explore options” and once again I told him that I was not here to purchase but would like some information so that we could make a decision. We were presented with options dealing with financing and I told him that we were already approved for a loan. I then stated that I would like to leave so that we could go home; review the information and finances to see if we could afford the vehicle. Every time that I mentioned leaving he would tell us to wait, then would come back with a different offer and on one occasion came back with a credit application saying that “the company” could possibly get us a better rate. We did fill out the credit application and a sheet was presented to us that outlined options. The sales rep asked “if we can get you this rate would you walk out with the car” and he circled no money down, 60 months at 9.8 percent interest for roughly 461 a month. I told him that I wasn't sure that we would like to take the information and leave. Once again he told us to wait then came back and said that If the loan doesn't go through on these terms you can bring the car back. I asked him then if this was a binding contract and he said yes that “our finance department doesn't need the practice” that if we sign we are obligated to take the vehicle if approved on those terms so we signed the documents. We were then approached by the sales manager and told that we could take the vehicle that the terms could be met. I asked him if we had been approved and he said no but that it shouldn't be a problem and that we could take the vehicle. I told him that I wanted to leave the vehicle for risk of accident or other misfortune until I knew for certain that I was approved. He argued with me about taking the vehicle that it wouldn't make a difference if I wasn't approved then we could return the vehicle. We were then lead to the finance department to sign the contracts We both asked the same question dealing with the loan and was assured that it would go through but if it didn't then we could return the vehicle. We went over and signed the contracts with the knowledge that if we were not approved at the specified rate then we could return the vehicle. On 11 March I received a message from the finance manager that I wasn't approved but would have to come in and sign a new contract for a longer term and higher interest rate. I then asked if the terms were still valid that since I wasn't approved at the stated rates that I could return the vehicle no questions asked and he said that I could. On 12 March I returned to Dobbs Honda and was approached by a sales rep. I told him that I was here to return a vehicle that my loan wasn't approved and he told me to come with him to the finance managers office. The finance manager told me that I loan wasn't approved at the agreed rate but at a higher interest rate and longer term. I told him that I wasn't happy with the customer service nor the vehicle and that I wanted to return it. I was told that I could not return the vehicle that I could get another vehicle, sign a new contract, or I could put money down to keep the same contract but getting out of the contract was not going to happen. I then asked to speak to a manager and I told him the same thing that I wasn't approved for the loan that was promised, I wasn't happy with the customer service, or the vehicle and that I wanted to return it. Again I was told that it wouldn't happen and said that the company would work with the bank and absorb the cost to keep the same contract that was previously signed.Mystified by bad reviews
by gvlivingaz on 01/05/2011updated 06/28/2025I got a very fair quote online before going to dealer. Dealer honored all online negotiations, even bettering the deal. It was quick and easy. I am skeptical about the other reviews. This is my second purchase from Dobbs Honda and the first… was just as simple.Purchase
by nico17 on 10/12/2013updated 06/28/2025Purchased a new pilot from salesperson (Lenny W). Very pleased with his relaxed attitude and non pushy service. I did my research before hand so I knew what I wanted. Lenny was very helpful in putting it all together. Thank youAwesome
by Jdub274 on 03/05/2013updated 06/28/2025Got exactly what I wanted thanks to Daniel W! Thanks!Quick and easy
by ggibson3 on 12/31/2013updated 06/28/2025Shopped on line. I received two quotes from two different dealers. I took the lowest quote to the dealer that had the vehicle I wanted and they matched their quote. it took very little time to get everything done and I got my new… car. Thanks Auto-nation,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We appreciate your business.
Low-Key Buying Experience
by OracleGrandma on 05/07/2014updated 06/28/2025Nicole made this an easy buying experience for us. Although we took our time in deciding on an Odyssey, she was patient and relaxed, which put us at ease. She was friendly and interested in working out the best deal possible for us. We… recommend Nicole and AutoNation Honda for a low-stress experience and a top quality vehicle. Thanks for your strong recommendation of the staff and AutoNation Honda Tucson Auto Mall. We appreciate your recommendation of our team, and the staff here look forward to further serving you in the future!
Excellent Experience
by azbriter on 03/14/2013updated 06/28/2025Searching for a specific Odyssey, we found the color, model, features all at Dobbs. We arrived and unfortunately had sold it and just had not gotten it off inventory. All apologetic, they said "what if we could get you one, say...today?" I… said lets sit and talk! I came in with a trade and research and it helped. While we were doing paperwork; they had the veery same vehicle in stock and just had not prepared it. A short while later; we were driving home in our 2013 Honda Odyssey!! Polite, friendly, comfortable and right from the first friendly phone call to driving out; an excellent experience!Very Satisfied
by gvlivingaz on 08/08/2013updated 06/28/2025This will be my third Honda purchased at Autonation Honda. The second from salesperson Dan W. I feel very comfortable at this dealership. Dan makes us feel welcome. No pressure and never tries to upsell. I consider the Honda brand the most… reliable and my new Pilot is perfect for my lifestyle. I did most of my negotiations over the internet and even though I did not buy the particular car for which I was dealing, doing a deal during the Honda clearance event was a no-brainer so much car for the price. Everything went so smooth, it turned out to be a real pleasure.Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We appreciate your repeat business. It is our goal for all our staff to provide a positive customer experience and we’re glad you are satisfied. Happy motoring!
Dobbes Honda CR-V
by partha1 on 05/18/2013updated 06/28/2025The dealers were not pushy at all and were very helpful in making my decision. They were very knowledgeable and friendly as well. Communication was accomplished online and the final arrangements were finalized at the dealership. Will buy there again
by twoson on 04/22/2014updated 06/28/2025Bought a '14 CRV and was very pleased with the salesman and whole experience. Process took longer than anticipated due to extremely high volume of sales that day but salesman was extremely apologetic and more than accommodating.Very pleased with our experience
by nmack03 on 12/27/2013updated 06/28/2025I was very pleased with the experience I had buying a new CRV. Our salesman, Art B, was a very knowledgeable and a straight shooter. There was a fast negotiation and we were happy with the outcome. I would recommend Art to friends of mine… looking for a Honda. Thanks again Art!It is our goal for all our staff to provide a positive customer experience and we’re glad you are satisfied. Happy motoring!
a wonderful car buying experience
by tcc3 on 08/29/2013updated 06/28/2025Martin, Pam, and the rest of folks at this dealership understands customers and work with them in a professional way. Internet buying experience through Edmunds is a no brainer choice.Thank you so much for your warm recommendation of the team! We are so happy to hear you've had a great experience with us. We hope to continue to serve you for many years to come. Please do not hesitate to give us a call if there is anything we can do for you.
Dishonest tactics poor quality service and sales...
by jkjive on 01/05/2012updated 06/28/2025Honda should not allow this dealership to sell their vehicles as Dobbs does not live up to the Honda reputation for sales and service. Purchased "Certified" used Honda only to find out 6 months later it was not up to Honda certified… standards - it has aftermarket parts, they never gave me the car fax, inspection worksheet, and certification paperwork for the vehicle, and they did not complete the scheduled maintenance. Each time I have called to ask for this paperwork I am told someone will get back to me and of course, I don't hear back. I am now working with the Honda Corp. to deal with this problem. My experience was awful and if I had it to do all over again I would have gone to another dealership. Sales and finance reps were pushy and did not listen. When I later complained I was treated with disrespect and lied to again. They are not trustworthy at Dobbs and will try every trick to get one over on you - BEWARE!good experience
by cep3 on 10/25/2013updated 06/28/2025I had pretty well decided I was interested in a Honda CR-V. I visited the dealership and started working with Joe, who knew a lot about every aspect of the car. He test drove it with us several times. He was courteous and personable. We… ended up buying the car and are pleased with it.Excellent Car Buying And Service Experience
by cactusjack158 on 11/08/2013updated 06/28/2025My first car was a 2012 Honda Accord EXL, which i bought brand new, which I am extremely pleased with. I used the Costco Car buying program and things could have not been easier. My first contact was Rob R who explained everything and was… quite helpful and explained the program carefully, Rob who was listed as the contact person for Costco, then introduced me to Myron the Salesman who was quite knowledgeable and courteous. Bottom line I bought the vehicle. The service advisor for the vehicle is Mike P, he was quite helpful and one of the reasons I returned back to Auto Nation for my 2nd vehicle a 2014 Honda CRV EXL just the other day. Again, thru the Costco Car Buying Program. I could not have had an easier car buying experience. I do not want to forget two other gentlemen Pedro and BC, they were also part of a great experience, In between those two cars a owned a 2011 Honda Accord Coupe, which i got from my brother in New York. When i brought the car out here to Tucson, I had the car serviced for several months at Auto Nation, again a great service experience. Courteous, Friendly and quick. I prefer to get my car serviced at the dealer, it may be a little more, but they now the car the best. I was told a good mechanic is not expensive, he is priceless.New Vehicle Purchase
by HMK2 on 05/07/2014updated 06/28/2025Now own a 1014 Honda CRV. Process was friendly and efficient. Staff made the deal work by being flexible. Nice experience. Enjoying the new ride. Most Satisfactory Purchase
by MCKTucson on 06/11/2013updated 06/28/2025This was our 7th car purchase from Auto Nation Honda Tucson (formerly Dobbs Honda) and again very satisfactory in all respects. We priced the car through Edmunds, got a response from the internet sales person at Auto Nation within the… hour. She connected us with Pedro, who had sold us a CRV 4 years ago. It couldn't have been a quicker, no-hassle, no pressure experience. We're very happy with our Odyssey and continue to recommend this dealer to our friends for both sales and service.Adds to new vehicle
