AutoNation Honda Tucson Auto Mall
Dealership Sales Review
On 8 march my wife and I entered Dobbs Honda to view used automobiles. We were approached by a sales person and I told him that I was not here to purchase and that I had a few other vehicles that I wanted to view at other dealers before I made a purchase; I then asked him to show us available selections. We did find a vehicle that interested us and was asked in to the office to explore options and once again I told him that I was not here to purchase but would like some information so that we could make a decision. We were presented with options dealing with financing and I told him that we were already approved for a loan. I then stated that I would like to leave so that we could go home; review the information and finances to see if we could afford the vehicle. Every time that I mentioned leaving he would tell us to wait, then would come back with a different offer and on one occasion came back with a credit application saying that the company could possibly get us a better rate. We did fill out the credit application and a sheet was presented to us that outlined options. The sales rep asked if we can get you this rate would you walk out with the car and he circled no money down, 60 months at 9.8 percent interest for roughly 461 a month. I told him that I wasn't sure that we would like to take the information and leave. Once again he told us to wait then came back and said that If the loan doesn't go through on these terms you can bring the car back. I asked him then if this was a binding contract and he said yes that our finance department doesn't need the practice that if we sign we are obligated to take the vehicle if approved on those terms so we signed the documents. We were then approached by the sales manager and told that we could take the vehicle that the terms could be met. I asked him if we had been approved and he said no but that it shouldn't be a problem and that we could take the vehicle. I told him that I wanted to leave the vehicle for risk of accident or other misfortune until I knew for certain that I was approved. He argued with me about taking the vehicle that it wouldn't make a difference if I wasn't approved then we could return the vehicle. We were then lead to the finance department to sign the contracts We both asked the same question dealing with the loan and was assured that it would go through but if it didn't then we could return the vehicle. We went over and signed the contracts with the knowledge that if we were not approved at the specified rate then we could return the vehicle. On 11 March I received a message from the finance manager that I wasn't approved but would have to come in and sign a new contract for a longer term and higher interest rate. I then asked if the terms were still valid that since I wasn't approved at the stated rates that I could return the vehicle no questions asked and he said that I could. On 12 March I returned to Dobbs Honda and was approached by a sales rep. I told him that I was here to return a vehicle that my loan wasn't approved and he told me to come with him to the finance managers office. The finance manager told me that I loan wasn't approved at the agreed rate but at a higher interest rate and longer term. I told him that I wasn't happy with the customer service nor the vehicle and that I wanted to return it. I was told that I could not return the vehicle that I could get another vehicle, sign a new contract, or I could put money down to keep the same contract but getting out of the contract was not going to happen. I then asked to speak to a manager and I told him the same thing that I wasn't approved for the loan that was promised, I wasn't happy with the customer service, or the vehicle and that I wanted to return it. Again I was told that it wouldn't happen and said that the company would work with the bank and absorb the cost to keep the same contract that was previously signed.
