Stay Away - Buyer Beware
Written by jfktucson on 06/24/2009

There is absolutely nothing redeeming about Dobbs Honda. Their salespeople are the stereotypical sleazy, misleading, pushy sort, and I will never buy a car from them. Both my girlfriend and I have been to Dobbs on separate occasions (and dealt with different salespeople), and both of us walked away unhappy. To begin with, the salesmen are insulting and patronizing. When I arrived the other day, I was immediately accosted by a salesman, who I politely told that I would like to walk around the lot on my own for a bit before discussing specific cars. I asked for his card and assured him that I would find him when the time was right. He made a back-handed comment at me, something to the effect of "Looking and thinking never won any wars. If that's the way you want to play it, though, fine." He then proceeded to follow me around the lot anyway, inserting himself into private, non-car-related conversations between my girlfriend and me, and generally being a nuisance. When I finally told him which car I was interested in, he refused to let me test drive until he had completed his hard sell on other models that were out of my price range and in which I was not interested. Then, the test drive...When he wasn't running his mouth, bad-mouthing other dealerships in town, he would mess with the radio and A/C, presumably to keep the cabin as loud as possible, so I couldn't listen to the engine or ambient noise. Even after I would switch off the radio, he would find some excuse to talk about one of its features and would turn it back on. What a pain. Still, I figured I would give him the benefit of the doubt and talk numbers. He ran through every stereotypical car dealer trick (e.g. going off to talk to someone after every sentence, pushing options I didn't want, focusing on monthly payments, rather than car price, withholding information, acting as though I was wasting his time). The whole process was just a drag. When I told him I was leaving to explore other options, he insulted me again (albeit in a relatively subtle, playful way) and ran his mouth for a while longer. Earlier, I had made the mistake of giving him my phone number (don't know why - it just happened), and he quite literally called my cell BEFORE I HAD EVEN DRIVEN OFF THE LOT. He called me 3 times the following morning. Then, when I told him I had decided to buy elsewhere, he became rude. To add insult to injury, he then found it necessary to call me later and leave an irate voicemail because I "wasn't honest" with him and wasted his time. All in all, Dobbs is a joke. Don't even get me started on the bizarre bait-and-switch financing baloney they tried to pull on my girlfriend earlier in the year. Stay away. Stay far, far away. Oh, and the dealer-installed options they add to the cost of every vehicle are ridiculous. I know all dealers do this to a degree - and why wouldn't they, it's pure profit - Dobbs' prices were especially egregious. Their window etching charge, for example, was more than twice that of their primary competitor, and their floor mat charge was more than twice the cost of buying directly from Honda. Just save yourself the grief. Avoid these guys like the plague. I wish I could give zero stars.
