Appalling Sales Tactics!!!

by Roxan E on 03/18/2024

I saw a 2023 Camry on the dealership website that I was interested in and made an appt to test drive. The car was in pristine condition inside and out and at a GREAT advertised price and after the test drive I decided I wanted to purchase. The manager handling my negotiation came to the desk and showed me a breakdown of the purchase price and it had increased by $6K! He explained the increase was due to "shop costs" the costs needed to bring the vehicle up to the dealership's sales standards. I remarked that those costs should be added to the purchase price prior to a vehicle being advertised for sale. The manager explained that was not the way the dealership did their pricing. The manager would not sell the car at the advertised price and I declined to purchase. Couple days later I received an email from the GM asking me to share my dealership experience. I relayed my bait and switch experience and my disappointment. The GM forwarded my email to the manager that did my purchase numbers at my attempt to purchase. The manager sent me a respond that did not address my concerns. I again emailed the GM and said after my shady dealership experience and now the "blow off" to my email, I feel I need to file a BBB complaint. The GM had the Customer Relation Manager call me. She was very sympathic to my experiences and said I was not treated correctly, she asked if she could use my experiences as a teachable moment for sales training. She went on to ask if there was anything she could do to fix my experience. I told her that she could arrange for the dealership to sell me a comparable 2023 Camry at the advertised price of the one I test drove (it had supposedly sold) she took down my specs and said she would contact me when a comparable car was in inventory BUT it could be awhile to have one that didn't have the add on "shop costs". (The dealership had no less than 4 Camrys priced at the same price that were comparable to my wants advertised at the same purchase price as the one I test drove on their website at this time). After this phone call I decided I needed to do some research into this dealership. I found that out of 100 Texas Toyota dealerships they were listed at 75 and 20 dealerships below them had no reviews. They had many similar negative reviews for the bait and switch pricing I had experienced plus many negative service reviews. Seeing all the bad business practices I decided to publicly share my experiences. I filed complaints with the BBB, Texas DMV and AG's office and gave a negative review on Dealerrater. After my filings, the Customer Relation Manager called me to say the dealership had a comparable Camry in stocks to sell me at the previously advertised purchase price. I let her know I had filed complaints but if the proposed Camry worked out I would update my complaints to say the dealership did honor their advertised sales price in the end. I hired a Pre Buy Inspector to inspect the car prior to purchase. The inspector reported, the car had to be jumped off prior to being able to test drive it. It had visibly been wrecked front and rear and repaired badly. Overspray visible on fenders and other areas. The engine was dirty and had ziptied parts. The tires were beyond worn and were questionable for roadworthiness. The interior smelled heavily of cigarette smoke and had burns and stains throughout. I declined to purchase the Camry the dealership considered comparable. I am in shock at this dealership's sales practices from begin to end. I have since filed complaints or reviews sharing my experiences on every consumer platform I have found available.

Dishonest and Misleading Sales Tactics

by BrianW on 05/27/2023

They advertised a 2023 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro online for $77,104…slight above MSRP. I showed up for my scheduled appointment, test drove the Tundra and went inside for financing. When they presented rates to me, they had adjusted the price from $77,104 to $95,000. They should have the higher price listed online and should also disclose this upfront. They’re deceitful and intentionally misleading customers.

Purchased Vehicle

by crystalc on 04/01/2019

We had looked for months for the perfect fit for a vehicle. Justin Hannon was our salesman. He was absolutely amazing with helping us find our vehicle. I had special needs in a car and he was extremely patient and helpful. You can tell he's a genuine person with a great heart. He went above what is expected to help us and never pressured us. I just can't say enough good things about him. We had been to many dealers during our search and nobody was as professional, helpful and kind as him. I highly recommend him!

No integrity or commitment to safety

by cotexas on 08/26/2015

I was at Texas Toyota 3 times in the first 3 months of owning a new Rav4. The first time seemed to take care of the issue and I didn’t have another problem for over 2,000 miles. I had the car towed in mid-June when I pulled out of my garage and the car stopped working. It wouldn’t start for me, the tow truck driver or the mechanic. They didn’t know what was wrong so they put me in a rental car for the weekend. I was told the car was fixed on Monday afternoon, picked it up on Tuesday morning and on Thursday my car broke down again. It hesitated twice on me while driving on the highway to work and then stalled repeatedly in the parking lot as I was leaving work. I had to wait 3 hours for a tow truck through Roadside assistance. Robert, the service advisor, was very nice--at first. When the car came in for the 2nd time, they couldn't recreate the issue so he tried to blame LoJack and basically get rid of me. He had no idea how LoJack worked -- asking me if someone knew my LoJack code and could have shut the car off. That's not how LoJack works at all. He was going to make me turn in the rental car in and drive an unsafe vehicle that could have broken down at any point in time. He only backed off when Toyota Corporate got involved; then let me keep the car through the weekend. They finally 'think' they solved the issue the following Monday. He left a voicemail that the mechanic 'really thinks this fixed the issue' and acted insulted when I was hesitant to pick the car up due to the repeated safety issues. I never received an apology for not fixing the problem the first time. Even when Jennifer with Customer Relations emailed to ask how things were going and I told her of my issues – she didn’t even offer a fake apology. Absolutely no integrity or commitment to safety—just another sleazy dealership. I never lost my temper or treated anyone at Texas Toyota disrespectfully and the treatment I received in return was unacceptable. Toyota is not the quality it use to be and I’m incredibility disappointed with every aspect of this situation.

Excellent Experience

by NiceTundra2014 on 05/15/2015

I would highly recommend Toyota of Grapevine. I purchased a 2014 Tundra 7 months ago. The salesman who helped me was Chase Vaughn. He made the sell very easy and less stressful. He helped me find the vehicle that I trulty wanted. I have no complaints from the service department either. They handle things very professionally. The finance department made the process go quickly and smoothly. If your looking for a great place to go for a new vehicle. This is the dealership I recommend.

Great place to purchase your vehicle

by dkmitch1312 on 04/09/2015

I brought my car in, traded it in and bought a truck from John Cross. The process could not have been any easier. I ask a lot of questions and he answered them quickly and directly. I would highly recommend letting John handle your car purchase needs. Overall a great experience!

Very Rude

by alex212 on 02/06/2015

I have had the worst ever experience in my life in buying a car from this dealership after I purchased my car from here I came after two weeks to pick up my metal plates then I was asking about the salesman who sold me to help me getting my tags. I heard an employee telling his colleague ‘’this [non-permissible content removed] is here to pick up plates not buying a car Do not give him attention’’. Sorry for the F words, But I think he was right since I choose this dealership to buy from.

Great product and positive purchase experience

by jim_c4 on 02/02/2015

I just purchased my second vehicle from Texas Toyota of Grapevine, a Tundra pickup. David Greer, my salesman was outstanding. He has great product knowledge and was very helpful in my guiding me through my selection process. My interaction with the sales manager, Matt Thomas, in negotiating the purchase price was very positive. I recommend Texas Toyota of Grapevine as a place to buy your next vehicle.

Typical dealership, but slightly better

by aph25 on 12/23/2014

I dealt with Sergio. I had an open mind about what I wanted, came across a Jaguar and ended up purchasing it. The guys are all great, it's a typical transaction, and they want to make the most money out of you as possible. It's up to you to do your due diligence and ensure you are getting the best deal. I can say that they did respond pretty well by accepting my offer for the car. There was the usual high pressure 'buy it tonight and we can knock off a significant amount' pitch that was made by multiple people. I stood my ground and returned the next day to make the purchase. One hint, once you’ve made a choice of vehicle, it's always easier to negotiate over the phone than in person at the dealership. Don’t do the deal on site the same day, come back home sleep over it, and call back the next day to make an offer you’re comfortable with. If it’s your car, you will get it. if it’s not, just move on and get something else. I must say that they take care of their customers pretty good while at the dealership. They have free Starbucks, a fancy Coke mixing machine, free snacks and a clean facility.

Great Experience!

by MrMcKiddy on 11/26/2014

My salesperson was Kamil Nasrawi. He was fantastic. I have been in sales, and sales management for 11 years, so I appreciate the great service that he provided. I also was probably not the easiest person to work with, and he never lost his cool with me. I would send a friend or family member to Texas Toyota of Grapevine, and I would tell them to ask for Kamil.

Great Buying experience

by RJCAV on 11/25/2014

Searched for an Avalon online and was quoted a price by Richard Kiefer. Communicated with him via email and countered with my offer. Met with him personally at T of Grapevine and my offer was accepted. Drove away with the Avalon the same day. I did not have to go thru the 'I'll check with my Manager' stuff that happens in other dealerships. Excellent buying experience.

The Best Buying Experience

by c_dub95 on 08/25/2014

While shopping online for a Tundra Crewmax, I came across a listing that appeared to be a typo due to the amazingly low price. I emailed Texas Toyota of Grapevine and received a response within minutes. Mr. Vincent A. provided professional, personalized answers to every question. I then submitted a credit application which was approved in minutes and received a call from Mr. A. in which I asked even more questions....which he answered. Soon thereafter, I spoke with the finance department and received even more professional responses. There was no hassle and no pressure. I have purchased vehicles in the past via internet listings, but this was hands down the best! Believe it or not, I purchased this Tundra sight unseen. However, the deal was so enticing and the dealership was so professional that I was confident to follow through. Mr. A. was even helpful in providing recommendations for shipping. Within no time and without delay or complications, my Tundra was shipped. It not only met my expectations but exceeded. WOW! After having received and driven this truck and having searched the internet even after my purchase, I can't say enough about my buying experience with Texas Toyota of Grapevine!

Great experience for purchasing a used car

by techex on 08/24/2014

I was happy with the professionalism of the Texas Toyota staff. My son and I researched the web thoroughly, and found a used Mazda 3 on the dealership website in August 2014. I sent a message to the dealership overnight, and Richard K., a sales representative, contacted me the next morning. Because the car had lower mileage and a competitive price compared to other cars we researched, I was concerned the Mazda 3 might be purchased before we visited the dealership. Therefore, I took off work that day and took my son to the dealership. We were happy to see the car was very clean and well maintained. My son loved the car, and we decided to purchase it. With the exception of a faulty printer that required us to spend extra time at the dealership, the paperwork process went smooth. I am very happy with the car we chose and the experience at Texas Toyota of Grapevine.

Wonderful experience from start to finish!

by a123p on 07/29/2014

Our experience at Toyota of Grapevine was a very pleasant one. We could not have asked for a better agent; from cheerfully welcoming us at the door all the way through leading us through a stress-free yet informative car-buying experience, Cedeno H. took care of us well. Cedeno was attentive and eager-- listening closely to our stipulations and following through with them, and answering our questions deftly and graciously. He was gracious and not at all pushy, which I appreciated very much. I would definitely recommend seeking out Cedeno if you are on the lookout for a car from Toyota of Grapevine!

Exceeded expectations. Highly recommend.

by stillflying312 on 01/07/2014

My husband and I looked for a long time for our new addition and we were happy to drive nearly 2 hours for the level of customer service, patience, and positive attitudes we were met with at Texas Toyota of Grapevine. Pete W. was the guy we did business with specifically and he was really great. He listened to exactly what we wanted, was very knowledgeable and overall made the whole experience less stressful. The whole staff exceeded our expectations. I'll definitely keep my business with them even if they are 2 hours away. Highly recommended!

Worst Car Dealer Avoid at all Costs

by David_Less on 12/16/2013

I bought a new car from Texas Toyota of Grapevine and it was the worst experience I've ever had. They offered a price and them reneged when i agreed and told me I would need to pay about $1,500 more. Salesman told me an important feature was included but it was not. They took forever even though I paid cash with no trade in or financing. Then they sold me an extended warranty and lied about what it covered. It was completely different than what they represented (deductible, coverage). Finally they miscalculated my sales tax and sent the wrong purchase price when I got my tags. I had to pay sales tax on an extra $1,000 because they listed the wrong price. Go anywhere else to buy your car.

Deceptive Practices - you decide

by bedfordbuyer on 07/14/2013

My wife and I recently bought a new 2013 Toyota Prius at Texas Toyota. While the car is great, our buying experience with them was unacceptable. We will never buy from them again due to their negotiating tactics and their omission of a discount agreed upon and adding an unwanted option back into our sales agreement . Let me explain. First of all we negotiated almost 6 hours going back and forth with salesman and then his manager on the discount offered, the interest rate, and the trade-in value. One of the first things they tried to push on us was the $3299 “Sign and Drive Protection Package “ which was basically an over priced extended warranty with some other minor protections like paint and tire. We declined that and the salesman crossed it off his negotiation list. We finally agreed on a small $686 discount off MSRP, a 2.2% interest, and a trade-in value for our used car with no other options or extended warranties. By the time we were sent to the finance person it was after 1100 pm Saturday night. When he gave us the sales agreement to sign, I noticed the $3299 Package was back on it. We told him we had already heard about it and again we Did Not want it. He then left for a few of minutes and came back with a new sales agreement without the $3299. We were so tired by that time (they were sitting around drinking Red Bull type drinks to stay awake) we just wanted to sign the paperwork and go home , which we did. On the following day I reviewed our Prius paperwork copies given to us with fresh eyes and saw that they had left off the $686 discount agreed on before we signed anything. The next business day I called the original salesman and asked him why did they leave off the $686 discount. First he replied it was because we had been given a 0% interest rate to which I replied “:no we got 2.2% interest”. Then he said it was because we had been given the $1000 rebate incentive being offered for Prius cars and I replied “no the $1000 rebate was offered by Toyota Corp not by Texas Toyota‘” After a Long pause he said that he would speak to his manager and have new (3rd try) paperwork printed for us to sign. We returned that Monday night and resigned the new paperwork with a different financial person named Jason. The only apology we received the entire time we spent at Texas Toyota was at the very end when Jason said “sorry about the mixup” ( I guess he did not know about the $3299 they had tried to slip past us the first time). The only conclusion that I can come up with was they either thought we would be careless about reviewing the sales paperwork and wouldn’t notice, or that they thought we would be too dumb to care. Either way the deceptive, dishonest treatment we received is unacceptable and we will let Toyota Headquarters know about it. They should be ashamed of their behavior. In my 61 years of buying cars this is the Absolute worst buying experience that I have ever had. Next time we will go somewhere else. James Starnes P.S. Too add to the insult less than three business days after we had bought the Prius that late Saturday night Texas Toyota ran an ad in the early Wednesday Fort Worth paper advertising all Prius’ at $2000 off MSRP. So much for our $686 discount we had to haggle over that they had tried to leave of our sale. Icing on the cake of misery.

Excellent Service

by muhammad4 on 06/18/2013

This is Muhammad, I was very much disappointed about services earlier but when I addressed issues, they are ready to solve my problems and tinting my car with free car mats, Mr. Kelvin G. had done wonderful response and solved my issue, David G. also told me that I can cancel my Warranty at any time, so I can cancel it sooner or later and I will get refund for warranty. Kelvin, Garcia, Kristin, and others had done wonderful response and I would recommend people to go there and they will take care of everyone professionally before and after sale. If I do not get right response at the time of cancellation of my car's Warranty, I will re-evaluate my reviews. Thanks everyone Good Luck in your business.

SAVE YOURSELF AN ULCER! DO NOT USE THIS DEALER!

by mrmac3 on 05/20/2013

bought a used vehicle from this dealer and caught them in more than 6 lies. They eventually made most of them right because we had documented everything. They refused to let us leave the dealership without making over $500 in repairs to the vehicle yet the repairs were never made. We had to pay another dealership in our area and Toyota of Grapevine would not refund our $$. I tried the firm but polite approach and not once would they return my calls. My spouse tried the aggressive and we'll call a lawyer approach and they returned his calls only, even though my name was on the title. We later found out our brother had the exact same experience with this dealer. SAVE YOURSELF AN ULCER! DO NOT USE THIS DEALER!
