Overview
There's probably no greater display of wealth than a Rolls-Royce in your driveway. Even the entry-level 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost will set you back more than $330,000 to start. The previous-generation Ghost that debuted in 2010 received some criticism for being built on a shared platform with parent company's BMW 7 Series, but the current generation that was introduced last year isn't saddled with that burden. It's now built on a platform shared by its larger Phantom and Cullinan SUV stablemates.
Cost to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost 4dr Sedan AWD (6.7L 12cyl Turbo 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $4.45 per gallon for premium unleaded in Ohio.

Avg. Large Car
For 2022, the Ghost gains a Black Badge variant that adds a sinister dark aesthetic along with a slight increase in power and a sportier suspension tuning for improved handling. Otherwise, it continues on as it did last year, with an impeccably crafted interior, an excess of smooth power and cloud-like comfort. On many levels, the only way to surpass the Ghost's overall excellence is to step up to the Phantom that will set you back another $125,000.
The Ghost isn't perfect, but it comes close. Its fuel economy estimate of 14 mpg in combined city and highway miles makes it as thirsty as a Ram TRX or Ford F-150 Raptor. Admittedly, that's likely not a big deal for someone with a Rolls-Royce budget. Outward visibility is also hampered by thick roof pillars, but that also may not be much of a concern for the buyer since Rolls-Royce vehicles have traditionally been driven by chauffeurs.
If you're looking for a way to celebrate your financial success, the 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost is an excellent pick, but it's not the only choice. The Bentley Flying Spur is just as opulent and prestigious, plus it costs quite a bit less. The Mercedes-Benz Maybach sedan is also much more affordable, but its familiar S-Class origins make it feel less special. On the SUV front, you also have the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Bentley Bentayga and Mercedes Maybach SUV. For a more traditional sedan experience, though, you'd have a tough time beating the Ghost.
Which Ghost does Edmunds recommend?
The 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost comes in one very well-equipped trim level. That leaves your decisions down to a lengthy list of options and customization opportunities. Of all the available options, the refrigerated rear center console definitely ups the Ghost's luxury game. For the rare owner seeking added performance, the Black Badge enhances power and handling.
2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost models
The five-passenger 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost is available in standard-wheelbase and Extended (long-wheelbase) models. The Extended version adds 6 inches between the front and rear wheels for added rear passenger space. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 6.7-liter V12 engine (563 horsepower, 627 lb-ft of torque) that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels. Standard feature highlights include:
- 19-inch wheels
- Adaptive LED headlights (swivel as you turn the steering wheel for better illumination in curves)
- Height-adjustable air suspension
- Adaptive suspension dampers (help improve ride comfort and handling stability)
- Power-folding heated mirrors
- Auto-dimming mirrors
- Heated windshield
- Power trunklid
- Four-zone automatic climate control
- Leather upholstery
- Headliner with illuminated stars or a sunroof
- Heated front and rear seats
- Heated steering wheel
- Umbrellas
- Navigation system
- 16-speaker audio system with a CD player and internal memory
- Satellite radio

Standard driver assist features include:
- Forward collision warning with automatic braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
- Lane keeping assistance (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane)
- Blind-spot warning (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
- Adaptive cruise control (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front)
- Front and rear parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)
- Night vision (displays an infrared image of the area in front of the vehicle to assist while driving at night)
- Surround-view camera system (gives you a top-down view of the vehicle and its surroundings for tight parking situations)
Black Badge
This new variant is the sportier and more sinister alternative to the Ghost's standard opulence. For the rather hefty price, you get:
- Power increase to 592 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque
- Dark chrome and carbon-fiber trim elements
- Firmer suspension tuning
- Sport exhaust system
In addition to the seemingly endless choices to customize the Ghost to your preferences, there are also bespoke options that are "off-the-menu" — for a cost, of course. Other official options include:
- Power-assist doors
- Massaging seats
- Ventilated seats
- Analog clocks
- Rear entertainment system
- Illuminated grille and Spirit of Ecstasy
- Refrigerated rear center console (reduces passenger capacity to four)
- Bespoke audio system
