The latest 2023 Nissan Rogue is the best version of itself yet. It's practical, fuel-efficient and big on standard features and driver aids. It's a solid all-rounder. But compared to other small SUVs, the Rogue has more cabin noise, a less refined ride and an increasingly dated infotainment system.
The Nissan Rogue is not only Nissan's most popular vehicle, but it's also one of the compact SUV segment's hottest crossovers. It's no mystery why the Rogue is flying off dealer lots. Redesigned just two years ago, the new(ish) Rogue is far more desirable than its rather milquetoast predecessor. The exterior features much more stylish sheetmetal than before, and the handsome interior provides high-tech additions that include a full digital instrument panel, wireless Apple CarPlay, and the ProPilot Assist suite of advanced driving aids.
Following last year's additions — which primarily consisted of swapping out the 2021 model's naturally aspirated four-cylinder for a turbocharged inline-three — the 2023 Rogue gets minor updates. A Midnight Edition package adds black-painted wheels and exterior trim pieces to the Rogue SV, while the SL and Platinum gain Amazon Alexa compatibility. Otherwise, there are no changes to the Rogue.
The Rogue competes in one of the most crowded and competitive segments around, with plenty of rivals from nearly every mainstream automaker. Performance

How does the Rogue drive? The turbocharged three-cylinder engine is surprisingly punchy. It makes plenty of power for passing and merging. It also delivers a respectably quick sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a little more than 8 seconds. Unfortunately, in routine driving the engine and transmission don't always respond smoothly when you press on the accelerator. The powertrain can feel slow to respond at first, and then lurchy and surging soon after.
Around corners, the Rogue is capable and composed but not particularly fun. The steering doesn't give you much feel for the road. There's also a noticeable dead spot in the steering when you're driving straight, especially at city speeds, so it's easy to drift if you're not going fast enough to use the Rogue's lane centering system.
Comfort

How comfortable is the Rogue? The Rogue is a comfortable SUV in most ways. The seats are soft and feel like they mold to your body, which is great on long drives. The front seats' only notable weakness is the slightly forward placement of headrests that some taller drivers might find uncomfortable. The Rogue also has available triple-zone climate control, which is a rare feature among small SUVs.
Compared to top competitors, the Rogue's ride feels busier and less refined on less than smooth roads. We felt a lot of the rough edges of road imperfections, and the Rogue had more side-to-side motions over uneven pavement than we'd expect.
Interior

How’s the interior? Getting into the Rogue is easy thanks to lightweight doors and big openings. The cabin is airy, making the Rogue seem like a larger vehicle than it actually is. The tall, wide windows provide an expansive view out and contribute to the sense of space. The thick rear roof pillars block your rearward view slightly, but several driver aids are present to help eliminate blind spots.
The interior layout is pleasant and cleanly designed overall, but taller drivers may push the limits of the driving position's adjustability, and it has less rear legroom than some rivals.
Technology

How’s the tech? The Rogue offers a great set of standard infotainment features and driver aids. In higher trims you get a big touchscreen, a digital gauge cluster and a head-up display, along with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay phone integration. The technology is mostly easy to use, but the menus and commands for the digital gauge cluster have a bit of a learning curve. Also, the voice controls are rigid and occasionally get confused.
The driver aids work well in most situations, although they have some trouble in stop-and-go traffic, and the Rogue offers both lane centering and rear automatic braking on top of the usual suite of features.
Storage

How’s the storage? The Rogue is a standout small SUV for cargo. Its overall cargo volume is only marginally smaller than class leaders, and in-cabin storage options are top-notch. Higher trims offer a set of easily reconfigurable floor panels — they can create a flat load bed or partitions or be lowered to open up a bit of extra space. Inside the cabin you'll find several accommodating trays up front and spots for front and rear passengers to stash drinks and small items.
Parents should appreciate the easy-to-access LATCH points, and the wide-opening rear doors that make installing car seats — and lifting kids in and out — much less of a hassle.
Fuel Economy

How’s the fuel economy? The front-wheel-drive Rogue gets an EPA-estimated 33 mpg combined for city/highway driving, and models with all-wheel drive should get 31 mpg. That's better than average for a non-hybrid small SUV. We also ran our test Rogue with AWD on our standardized real-world evaluation route. It posted a slightly disappointing 28.5 mpg, but overall it is still a small SUV that can help you save on gas.

Is the Rogue a good value? The Nissan Rogue presents a good value in its lower trim levels. Its extensive list of standard tech features and driver aids, along with an economical gasoline engine, make for a compelling proposition against similarly priced models. But higher-level trims of the Rogue lack the substance to compete. Other rival SUVs feel more luxurious, have more features and flashier technology, are more enjoyable to drive, or offer hybrid variants with better economy.
Nissan's warranty coverage is typical for this class. The standard bumper-to-bumper warranty is good for three years/36,000 miles, as is roadside coverage. The powertrain is warrantied for five years/60,000 miles.

The Rogue makes a great first impression, with sharper exterior design and a more modern and upscale-looking interior. Unfortunately, the Rogue's overall refinement, build quality and road manners don't live up to that first impression, especially in the high-cost Platinum trim that we tested.
2023 Nissan Rogue trim level differences
The 2023 Nissan Rogue is a five-passenger small SUV sold in four trim levels: S, SV, SL and Platinum. All are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine (201 horsepower, 225 lb-ft of torque) mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). I purchased a 2023 Platinum Rogue in April 2023, 13 days later my car immediately slowed down and stopped on a major highway in front of a tractor trailer. The dashboard lit up with Engine malfunction alert then Nissan Connect emailed me about an Engine emissions malfunction. My children and I could have died if they tractor trailer would have hit us. The dealership charged $250. for a … loaner car that should have been free and then told me that the throttle in the Engine is bad. How did it pass inspection? Where are the recalls? Nissan does not have the parts needed to fix the malfunction and it's on back order with no estimated arrival date but they're still selling the vehicles
I've purchased Nissan cars since 2001, same service advisor since 2001 and this is the first time I've ever received car Engine malfunction on any vehicles but the Rogue has malfunctions after just having it for 13 days. The dealership catered to me on the day of purchase but act like they didn't know me when I brought the car in with an engine malfunction at day 13 of owning. I called Nissan Corporation. Nissan is producing cars and selling cars but not producing the required mechanical parts to fix car repairs when their vehicles malfunction. This is sad. They're going to want their car note payment on time but the owners time and expectation of having a safe vehicle means nothing.

2023 Nissan Rogue S 4dr SUV (1.5L 3cyl Turbo CVT)
We just bought a Nissan rogue 2023. Less than 1500 miles on it and I get a message on my phone that there may be a problem with the emission control system. The engine light comes on so you can not use automatic start, cruise control, or several other features. We of course took it right away to be serviced at Nissan and they said it was a problem with the censor and there is not a … fix yet. So the car is broke, no compensation, and they have not fixed or replaced car. Also they are still selling them and other consumers are having this problem too!
In January with 2600 miles my check engine light came on and the code pulled was P0181 Fuel Temperature Sensor. So the dealership ordered a new fuel injector pump, which took almost 2 months to come in. Got that fixed in the middle of March and 3 weeks later I was driving on the highway, on my way to the dealership for a oil change and tire rotation when I went to pass a car in front of … me and as I accelerated, I heard a car misfire which I thought was someone else’s car bc I only have 7500 miles so that can’t be me, right?! But as I got a little further, my car started sounding louder and louder and as I gave it more gas It sounded like as if I was driving in 1st gear. No symbols or lights appeared on dashboard so I kept driving. As I got a little further, I could tell my car was not at the speed I should’ve been which would’ve been about 70-75. So I looked at my speedometer and it was climbing down from 65 then to 60. THEN….my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree!!! And the car told me to “Please move over safely!” Now mind you, I am in the fast lane and my car is slowing down and now I need to move over 3 lanes and in front of cars and semis. This was so stressful and dangerous bc I wasn’t sure if my car was just going to stop dead in front of a car and then someone would hit me! But I survived that and managed to get into the emergency lane and put it into park. But then my engine died! I tried to start it after a few minutes and nothing. So I had to call the dealership and have my car towed there. Once there they said they would give me a loaner and call me the next day and give me an update. The loaner they gave me was another 2023 Rogue, but Platinum Edition with only 1600 miles. This car has all the “bells & whistles”. Very nice! So the next day they call me and tell me that they have to replace my engine! Something about a broken rod bearing. They said they have no idea how long it will take for the new engine to come in. Could take 1 or 2 months. So! It’s been a little over a month and I’m enjoying the loaner and all it’s bells and whistles, when all of a sudden I look at my dashboard gauges yesterday and I see the “check engine” light is on! With only 3300 miles. Omg! So now I’m like wth is wrong with these 2023 Rogues?! So this morning I take it to Auto Zone so they could do a diagnostic and pull the code for this light and….WAIT FOR IT….it’s another P0181 code. Yep! It’s the Fuel temperature sensor! So now I get to call the dealership up and let them know that the loaner they gave me has the same problem I had with my Rogue back in January when it had 2600 miles and now I’ll have to bring in this loaner for a repair. SMH! So definitely, Nissan needs to send out some recalls or something. Because this is dangerous. Maybe they should’ve just kept the 4 cylinder engine? Because the way I see it, that is the common denominator. I previously owned a 2018 & 2021 Rogue Sv 4 cyl. and never experienced these issues.
Warm feet or defrosted windshield one or the other
I have owned 2 Rogues previously to our new 2023 SV turbo. This model is very good with a couple exceptions. The heater selector had only 4 positions. In order to keep the windshield from frosting over fan must be on max and all air diverted to the windshield. This means that if you want to warm your feet and legs you have to switch the air flow down but then you must constantly scrape … the windshield. Not great on a long trip. The next problem that came up is the transfer case started leaking oil. Now we are waiting for parts to have it repaired. The car has 4,000 km.
