  • Mandatory $695 charge for something the car already does...

1 out of 5 starsby Educated Consumer on 01/31/2024

I discovered the vehicle I wanted at this dealer for a fair price, but I noticed an additional charge for StarGard, a GPS-based theft recovery device, which is mentioned at the end of the vehicle description, at $ 695. After a quick call before heading to the dealership to see the car in person, the salesperson I spoke with informed me it was non-negotiable because it was pre-installed on all vehicles. That was enough for me to continue my search, as the vehicle I was interested in already had the full functionality of this $695 device built into the factory electronics system. I was unwilling to pay $695 additional for something the car already did. The existing functionality was more secure as it couldn’t simply be located by a would-be thief and removed like this product. I have read that this product, marketed initially to dealers for inventory management, was repurposed as a profit-increasing add-on to sell to consumers. However, similar devices are available for as little as $50 online, questioning the justification of the $695 charge. Beyond the unnecessary cost, the privacy implications of a device that tracks location and can disable the vehicle are concerning. Opting not to support this practice, I chose a dealership that did not force customers to buy products that had redundant functionality to what the manufacturer provided or other unnecessary and unwanted add-ons. This decision highlights the importance of awareness and refusal to endorse potentially deceptive sales tactics. Worse comes to worse, and I would prefer to hide an Apple Air Tag under the floor mat. Of course, this is just my opinion, and I do not proclaim myself an expert on this product, its cost, value, or anything else. I am relaying my thoughts as something for other consumers to consider. As always, it is advisable for every consumer to do their own research and conclude whether this product delivers $695 worth of value to them.

    • Thank you for sharing your feedback about StarGard. I’d like to clarify that StarGard is a GPS-based theft recovery device specifically designed for locating stolen vehicles. Unlike factory-installed systems, which are not intended for theft recovery, StarGard has a proven track record of quickly and reliably helping recover vehicles. I understand this may not align with your preferences, but our goal is to offer valuable security solutions and ensure transparency about the products we provide. If you’d like to discuss further, please feel free to reach out to me directly at eric.leys@holman.com or 503-567-8973. Thank you again for your input. -Eric Leys BMW of Tigard

  • Bunch of [non-permissible content removed]

    1 out of 5 starsby DanaS97225 on 05/05/2021

If they give you any kind of accounting paperwork, you should check it very carefully. I noticed repeat errors, when they fraudulently calculated my monthly payments, insurance, and rebates. In the end, I still bought the car, but have since regretted the purchase, partly because BMW makes JUNK, but also because I stayed with these [non-permissible content removed] , even though I should have walked out. As soon as you see any dealer trying to manipulate you in any way - WALK OUT quickly, and don't come back! Write about your experience online, and warn others! As a woman, I never thought they would treat me any better, but they also treated my elderly father the same way. Shame on Kuni BMW!

  • My experience working with Spencer Morey in sales

5 out of 5 starsby Krs on 12/28/2019

Spencer Morey at Kuni BMW was amazing to work with. The initial meeting, test driving and sitting down to discuss payment options was all stress free and not aggressive like other places. He did everything to accomodate the specs and trim I was shopping for and stayed to what I wanted especially with my budget. He even followed up when our first attempt was not successful. He truely worked on finding what I needed. Always returned my messages in a timely fashion. If you go to Kuni, ask for Spencer Morey.
  • What is your integrity worth Not much for Kuni

1 out of 5 starsby jlawson on 02/17/2019

What happens when a dealership loses sight of how loyal customers make them successful? They begin to trade their own honesty and integrity for a dollar. They lie about pricing information. They dupe and swindle. They change the rules when you are there. Unfortunately, I experienced this first hand at Kuni BMW and I will never do business with them again. Was working with the sales team to upgrade and trade in my 3 series. Together we found a 2019 4 series advertised online that matched my requirements and fit in my price range. I proceeded to have them send me all the information on the vehicle, final pricing, rebates/incentives, trade-in value, and financing options. They wanted me to come in, of course – so after doing my own research I called back and told them if they could do a little better on my trade-in I would agree to the terms. I live over an hour away, so I fought through downtown Portland traffic (dragging my teenage daughter with me) on a Friday afternoon to finalize our deal and go home with a new 4 series. Needless to say I was pretty excited. Absolutely beautiful car. But I ended up walking away with my head down and once again disappointed in the lack of value a customer has to a car dealership. After 2 more hours of negotiating my trade-in at the dealership and agreeing to finance terms, we shook hands and signed. Even though I knew I was being taken on my trade in, I felt the negotiations of the overall price were fair. All was looking good, until 30 minutes after I had cleaned out my things from my car and was waiting for the final paperwork, I was told there was a “mistake”. The negotiated price of the 4 series was incorrect. They had advertised it falsely online and worked with me for 8 hours – this includes managers, sales reps, and finance team – without knowing. They tried to increase the price of the car AFTER we completed negotiations. I was appalled. I felt lied to and cheated. After a whole bunch of bull and trying to get me to renegotiate, I asked their finance guy, “Are you going to honor your agreed upon deal and do what is right for the customer?” He flatly said “No, we will not.” Kuni BMW had EVERY chance to do the right thing. Follow their principles and maintain their integrity. Yet they chose the dishonest way out over a few dollars. Unbelievable and extremely sad to see how far a good dealership has fallen. I want everyone who reads this to understand that Kuni is no better than your local used car lot…perhaps less honest. Details: I was a returning customer, having bought my first BMW 3 series from Kuni in 2016. At that time, I was happy with their customer service, both during the sale and post service appointments. They touted their record of being the best dealership in customer satisfaction, and I will admit, it did feel different than other dealerships I had been to. And it should...considering the luxury prices of their vehicles. Like many customers in their loyalty program, I receive monthly emails about special promotions or discounts, rebates available for upgrades, etc. None of them caught my eye until recently. I proceeded to reach out about the possibility of upgrading to a newer vehicle to take advantage of their current sales and incentives. After speaking with one of their representatives, Scott Senkel, multiple times we found a car that suited my requirements and price range - ADVERTISED ONLINE at Kuni BMW. I had the sales rep send me some of the financial information, including the price, incentives, my trade in value, and financing options. It was all prepared and approved by their financial team. I then started doing my due diligence - looking up pricing, shopping for loans, checking on the value of my trade-in, etc. Of course Scott Senkel wanted me to come in (over an hour away for me) and take a look at my trade it. I said I wouldn't come in unless I knew I was getting the car I was after and the right price. He assured me they had it, even grabbed the keys, and was holding it for me. I proceeded to drive in, printing out all of the information and gathering up the data I would need to trade my car in and step into a new one. I even had to drag my teenage daughter along who kept asking if she could have my old one. When I arrived, I was showed the car by my new sales rep (Doug Herschbach) - a beautiful 430ix - and they took a look at my vehicle to give it a proper trade in value. Of course, it was very low, but this is a game we all have to play a bit with the dealer. After more negotiation, we were able to reach an agreement and we shook hands on the overall price and trade in. I also signed their offer sheet multiple times, with all of the pricing and details - including the VIN and Stock # of the car I was purchasing. With the deal done in principle, I begin signing all the other paperwork, getting my credit approved, cleaning out my other car, and sitting around for a few hours waiting to drive my new car home. After nobody had come by in a while, I started to look around and I saw my salesperson walking back to me with his head down. He was sad to inform me that they had made a mistake on the price of the car and cannot honor the agreement. He said the price I was given was for a different car and the advertised price of the one we agreed on in principle was actually a few thousand dollars higher. I pointed to the offer sheet and piece of paper showing the VIN, make & model, and asked if they were trying make a fool out of me or what? Obviously my patience was wearing a bit thin and all of sudden they are changing the price of the car AFTER we had already negotiated, signed, and shook hands on the deal. I was stunned. The sales person asked me to come talk to his financial manager, Willie Higgins - who had prepared and approved this offer 8 hours prior and multiple times after I got there. I asked "Are you going to honor our deal or not?" He was visibly shaken. I think he wanted to do the right thing but was handcuffed by managers. He asked me to show him online where the car was advertised at that price. I did and to my surprise, they had updated the price while I was there! I was infuriated because now they were making me look like a liar about the price! How the heck is that even possible? Lucky for me, there was the original sales person (Scott) who saw it AND a web log that showed it was updated late in the day after our deal was struck. With my honesty and sanity still intact, my sales person went back to Willie Higgins to try to get them to agree. I could very much tell he was on the side of the customer, deflated a bit at his management’s reaction. After another 20 minutes of waiting, he came back shaking his head and again asked me to speak with his finance team. This time I gathered my things and agreed to walk over. At that point, I met Willie Higgins in person and he proceed to tell me they made a mistake with the price of the car. An honest mistake he called it. After 8 hours and multiple people signing off on this, he says they did not advertise the correct price. I looked him straight in the eye and asked “Are you going to honor our deal, yes or no? I am not here to negotiate anymore. I am tired, frustrated, and dismayed at your lack of integrity.” He flat out looked at me and said “No, we will not honor this deal”. I turned and walked out, with Kuni BMW having forever lost a loyal customer.

  • Above and beyond experience

    5 out of 5 starsby 28firefighter on 05/07/2017

My wife was 9 months pregnant with our first child and due any day. For a variety of reasons, we had been asked not to leave more than 30 minutes between us and our hospital, just in case. I sent an email to Kuni about a lease on one of their 2016 BMW X1 service loaners during off hours. First thing in the morning Devin got back to me answering some questions I had, and then we quickly negotiated a deal. Then I realized that some of my numbers were off (100% my fault) that put the car out of our budget. I didn't feel comfortable asking for more off, but Devin asked me where I needed to be. To my amazement, Devin emailed me 15 minutes later and was within $2 or $3 a month of where I wanted to be. I practically fell off my chair. I buy a lot of cars and this was one of those deals that you get once and never experience again. But I wanted the safest car we could afford for my wife and kid and so we jumped at it, of course. We filled out the credit application online in between meetings and gave Devin a deposit over the phone. At this point, we had to work out logistics for picking up the car. I was prepared to have the car shipped to Seattle for $300, but Devin offered to meet us in Tacoma on his day off to deliver it. I was floored. But it didn't stop there. We were handed off to Abdul, our CA, to complete our paperwork and arrange the logistics for delivery. We had all the paperwork approved and finalized in less than an hour, at which point Abdul tells me he is going to drive the car to us in Seattle, at home, THAT NIGHT. Above and beyond the call of duty - a 3.5 hour drive, in rush hour to Seattle, to get the car to us the same day. Unreal. The car was in immaculate condition despite being soaked, even waxed. Abdul finished the paperwork with us in less than 15 minutes and the next day, Benjamin had scanned copies of all of it for us for our records. I can't wait to visit Kuni on our next trip down to Portland, hopefully with our baby, to properly thank them in person for giving me an amazing deal on a great car and then really going above and beyond to get the car to us. Thank you Devin and Abdul for the craziest, most customer service oriented car buying experience I've ever had. I can't promise you'll get the same insane deal I did, but I can promise you they'll try their best.
  • Great experience with Devin Wells

    5 out of 5 starsby Coandc1984 on 05/07/2017

I went in just to look at BMW's since I currently drive an old E39 and haven't even sat in one newer than that, I was mostly looking to just get a feeling for what they're like now. Deven Wells met me and answered every question I had and took the time to provide service that was truly above and beyond anything that I anticipated. As I left the dealership with my fiance she said to me, "I honestly think that we should wait for Kuni to find the perfect BMW instead of looking everywhere." And even though I'm notoriously impatient I completely agree with her. I'm now a Kuni customer and plan to purchase all my BMW's the in the future from them.
  • Best car shopping experience ever

Mike is your " Old school- Good guy!". He listens to you and understands your needs, explains your options clearly, and lets you decide what is best for you. Not pushy, not arrogant...., not the stereo-typical car salesman. No "numbers games" or "bait-and-switch". I had tried many dealerships in town over the years and my purchase experience with Mike was by far the best ever. I will surely and strongly recommend him to my friends and family, with no hesitation. Keep up the good work my friend; and thank you very much for all your kind help! M.B. Lake Oswego, OR

  • Very happy with the sales experience

5 out of 5 starsby cajunbliss on 08/15/2015

Buying a car was very easy at Kuni. And our sales person was fantastic, when we told him we were expecting twins in January he took us outside and showed us his double stroller (as he has 2 young kids) and let us check it out as we will be purchasing a double stroller soon. He was really professional, pleasant and went out of his way to help us. Spending the afternoon with him was good experience. I would happily buy a car from him again.

  • disgusting

Purchased 2013 BMW 328ix new from this dealer as a special order for my daughters college graduation gift. Had braking problems that caused two rear end collisions but dealer denied any problem existed, then we received a recall notice from BMW about braking failures. Dealer STILL denied any problem. Rear license plate bracket frame detached from body of car, lost plate and all but even though it is part of the car they charged to replace it, no warranty. Parking sensors failed. Dealer claims that a sensor may have been damaged, no warranty and over $400 to repair. Does BMW even have a warranty?

I was so glad to have the opportunity to work with such a professional as Beni. Beni took great care to listen to me and did a phenomenal job pairing me to my ideal BMW. With careful attention to my needs (& wants) and with clear understanding of the BMW lines, I had zero frustration at any point of the process. I cannot speak highly enough of Beni and the team at Kuni. Thank you for making this experience what it was - How buying a car should be!

Everyone that we worked with at KUNI put in an extra effort to make our transaction successful and enjoyable. Beni and John were happy to communicate and even show up for work on their days off. And we appreciate the little things--like Ethan getting on the phone to activate the satellite radio.
  • Best Place to Buy a Car

    5 out of 5 starsby kris72 on 10/10/2014

Really, really loved my experience with Kuni BMW and Nathan Martin. Nathan, what can I say about this guy. He is amazing. During the sale he treated me like a friend and listened to my needs and got me the perfect car for me. I love it more every day that I drive it. I have come in a couple of times since the purchase for service and to buy accessories and both times Nathan has walked over to say hi to me and chat like old friends. What a great place to buy a car!

Bought a used Toyota 4Runner from Kuni, Butch the salesman was grreat to work with, in fact everyone I dealt with at Kuni was good to work with and above board in all their actions. Only one complaint, car only came with one key, should have provided another key for free. Small deal really. Every thing else was great.
