Not customer centric

by Experienced Driver 3833 on 02/09/2023

Recently purchased a 2020 Nissan Maxima from this dealership as a used car. The sales experience was great but once I took ownership of the vehicle is when I found the safety issues. Three things were found to be very unsafe 1) Warped front rotors, 2) Cracked front brake pads, 3) Severely cupped rear tires with extreme road noise. I attempted to contact the used car sales manager to start a conversation about correcting these issues that should have been found during the inspection and pre-sales prep of the car. The manager's attitude towards the entire conversation was to attempt to quote Missouri auto law to me during the entire conversation. He did not want to listen to the customer and come up with an amicable solution at all. When I notices the conversation was not customer service centric and that he would not listen to me, I ended the call only to have him call me back later in the day to recite the exact same things to me and ask me if I wanted him to break Missouri laws. I find this type of leadership and insinuation ridiculous and ended the phone call again. This person did not care to talk about my issues with the sale at all and clearly doesn't care about customer service. I did not need a lecture from someone I don't know and I am quite certain is not an attorney.

Liz Myers

by subaru on 07/31/2019

We really enjoyed meeting and car shopping with Liz. It's not our favorite past-time and we don't do it often, but Liz last month and Paul Sargent, back in 2015, were very easy to work with. We'll be back when we need another car.

They got us off to a good start.

by blutz33 on 03/23/2018

My son purchased is first car from Lee's Summit Subaru, a used Mazda. We drove around 65 miles to discuss the deal given the great advertised price. He purchased the car and shortly after getting home discovered some issues with the car. My son became concerned about the value of his purchase. Although the issues could have been caught prior to the transaction, a call to the Sale Department received quick action. Chris and his Team worked to resolve our concerns. They acted quickly and did not offer any additional hassle or run-around. They quickly restored my son's enthusiasm with the purchase. I appreciate their efforts and their willingness to make things right.

Inept at every level

by benhawley1 on 07/02/2016

Before I explain my experience with Lee Summit Subaru of Kansas City let me first tell you the circumstances of our situation. A situation which we explained very clearly to the people we dealt with at the dealership. My wife is in the army and was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. She had just gotten her orders and was to report to Fort Drum, NY in just under two weeks from the day we set foot in the dealership. At that point we had not decided on whether or not to buy the car in Kansas or wait until later. The Lee Summit dealership happened to have exactly the car we were looking for on the lot and offered us a reasonably good deal. We were aware that there had been a recall on the 2016 Outbacks that we were looking at but were told by the salesman that this one had not been subject to the recall. This is the series of events that followed; Literally moments after we finished signing the paperwork that gave us possession of the car the salesman came into the finance office and informed us that he had just run the VIN again and that the car was in fact due to be repaired for the recall issue. We asked how long that takes and he said that the repair takes about an hour, which would have been fine. He then says that they don’t have the parts on hand and they are waiting for a shipment any day now. We say OK, when can we have our car? Because, as we told him, we are on a somewhat tight schedule though we could wait a few days. He said he would let me know the next day. I got no call. I got no call the day after that either, so I called him and he said they still didn’t have the parts but he would let me know. I waited another day and a half and received no call. So I called but couldn’t get him on the phone so the receptionist put me through to the repair department. They told me that they had no record of my car, had no idea what I was talking about. After putting me on hold and presumably going and finding someone in sales he told me that they had parts for some cars but that we were 13th in line for the repair and they didn’t have that many parts on hand and wasn’t sure when they would get more. I waited another day and called back, this time talking to the sales manager and told him that if we didn’t have our car that we were going to have to drive the loaner to NY and possibly to WA since my wife was immediately deploying and I was going to WA for the summer. I really didn’t want to drive the loaner and deal with whatever complications that would entail. It seemed logical to me that since everyone whose car was in line for the recall also had a loaner that they would not be too put out if they bumped us up in line because of the circumstances. That didn’t happen and we ended up having to drive the loaner to NY. Eventually, and after several more phone calls that I had to make to the Sales Manager rather than him keeping us informed, our car was ready to be shipped. At this point he basically washed his hands of the situation, telling me that he had handed off the information to the shipping company and to just deal with them. The shipping company told me we would have the car in about three days which was reasonable. Three days later I hadn’t heard anything so I called and they said that they hadn’t even picked the car up yet. Once they did finally ship the car the person in charge of the company told me he had no idea where the car was or when it would be delivered and gave me the number of the driver. He also initially said that they would drop our car off one day and send a different driver to pick up the loaner. This made no sense for several reasons, but eventually they worked it out. The driver was the only person in this whole process who was remotely helpful and responsive. He said that he didn’t know why they had told me three days back then but that it would still be several days before he made it to us and that he would try to arrange his schedule to get it there quicker and keep us up to date, both of which he did and I greatly appreciated. So in all, once we finally did get our car, it had been over a month since we had purchased it. Which means that the temporary tag had expired. Which leads me to another detail: apparently we had failed to initial something on the original paperwork which was something the sales department needed. To register the car we needed the certificate of origin which the dealership didn’t have but knew we needed before we left their shop. They overnighted the paperwork to be initialed but neglected to send the certificate of origin. So that was a couple more days of waiting before we could register the car. In the meantime it was time for her to deploy and for me to drive cross country. Without plates. Thankfully the delivery driver suggested putting the dealer plates from the loaner car on until we got the official ones. Moving, preparing for deployment and buying a new car are all stressful events on their own. Doing them all at once even more so, but under normal circumstances it wouldn’t be so bad. The Lee Summit dealership made this process immeasurably more stressful, frustrating and difficult through what seems to be ineptitude at every level. This whole situation could have been avoided by simply bumping us up in line for repair. I would have had very little effect on the other customers who live in the area and had loaner cars. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am that we don’t live in that area and have to deal with them any further. We love our new car, now that we finally have it, but would never recommend anyone purchase a car from that dealership.

An excellent dealership

by GaryZum on 05/11/2016

I've been buying new cars since 1965 and I'd rate Lee's Summit Subaru as the best dealership I've ever dealt with. They stand behind what they promise even when one problem I had could be described as a misunderstanding; they backed my understanding. The sales staff are well informed and aren't at all pushy. In addition, the service department are the friendliest bunch of people I've ever dealt with. I've purchased three new cars from Lee's Summit Subaru and I plan to continue to shop there first.

Our First Subaru Experience

by Ourfirstsubaru on 01/18/2016

We just bought our first Subaru from LS Subaru and it was a great experience. We new what we wanted before we came to this dealership which helped, but honestly they made this the easiest car we have ever bought. Paul was super nice and easy to work with. Tim was able to beat our interest with our bank by over 1%, which was awesome! We love our Subaru. Thank you LS Subaru!

Unicorn found

by ExitVisa on 12/31/2015

A few weeks ago, while my brother was taking possession of his new Forester, I was talking with Courtney (who was handling the sale). I mentioned that in the off chance they ever got a Legacy that (1) has a manual transmission, and (2) is a 2006 to 2009, that I would be interested in buying it. The very next day Courtney contacted me and said they might be getting an '09 with a stick shift and 63 thousand miles on the odometer as a trade-in. It turned out that it was actually an '07 Legacy Spec B with 63 thousand miles, which was a very pleasant surprise. (The Spec B is a very limited edition, and is very sought after by enthusiasts) Courtney and Jason (the sales manager) did a great job of keeping me informed, and made the purchasing process as easy as possible. For the first time in a long time I actually enjoyed buying a car from a dealership.

A pleasure!

Be sure to ask for Tim S. You won't find a more accommodating person. Easy to work with, sincere, not your average car salesman. I even got points for my birthday! Best car buying experience ever, and I've owned five Subaru's!

Easy

None pushy salesmen who still retain the ability to be polite make this my favorite place that I have purchased a car in the last 20 years. This is the best Subaru dealership in the Kansas City area.

Bad experience

by ksmkc on 07/01/2012

After more than an hour with apparently no other customers around, I was still not able to find out how much a selected car would cost with my trade in. It was well worth my time to drive to University Subaru in Columbia. I was able to have a great buying experience in Columbia and the sales personnel were polite, which I had not found to be the case at Lee's Summit Subaru.

Easy to work with

by jjw5 on 02/11/2011

The sales staff was willing to work with me over the phone as I needed to help a family member who lived locally buy a car. They took my calls seriously, were very accommodating, and took care of my family member when she picked up the car. I got fair market value for the car. Greatly appreciated.

Pretty good.

by bricknord on 04/17/2010

I felt like I received a fair price on my new Subaru, but also felt lowballed on my trade in, ironically a Honda which is the brand carried by their sister store across the road. I've shopped at hungrier dealerships. These guys seem to have a smidge of the "take it or leave it" attitude that comes from being located in a fairly affluent part of town. They were light on trade value compared to others in town, and I had a desirable late model trade. I thought they were unprepared when I came in to do paperwork, having none of it pre-printed or pre-loaded in the computer ahead of time, forcing me to waste time at the time of delivery. They could have done better in this regard. Not a deal-breaker, but room for improvment in this area. On a positive note, Kevin our salesperson was cordial on the whole and pleasant to deal with. The facility is on the new side and pretty nice, so you are paying for that when you buy here to an extent. I hear their service department is good, we shall see. I could have saved $500 on the overall deal if I was willing to travel 100 miles out of town and invest a day of travel, etc. When you have a small child, this becomes more of an issue and at some level the convenience factor of dealing 3 miles from your house becomes a factor. In the end, I recommend getting your numbers in order, shopping around, using Edmunds and TrueCar for pricing info, and deciding how much of a premium you are willing to pay to do business here. They had the only car equipped like I wanted within 100 miles, and as I mentioned, I had to factor in the time it would have taken me to beat the deal by 500 clams. I could have, but in the end went locally and ate the difference. You make the call. Overall, these guys get a C+ on pricing and a B+ on the rest of the transaction in my book. An educated shopper with time on their hands can likely do better price-wise elsewhere... you decide how important price is ultimately and make the call.

Got us the car we wanted

by ohsgal on 12/01/2008

Our salesman was very knowledgeable about the different Subaru models. He asked us questions about what we wanted and then went out and found the perfect car. We got a 2009 Impreza with no high pressure sales tactics. Financing was a breeze and the trade-in was fair. I would highly recommend Lee's Summit Subaru.

TOTALLY UNSATISFACTORY

by footehut on 06/23/2008

Sales rep Jamie Dawson was belligerent during an initial conversation with us, demanding a figure when we were seeking the going rate for a 2009 Forester. The phone call concluded with Jamie hanging up while my husband was mid-sentence. He followed up with an ALL CAPS email to me: Hey Micheal, Thanks for your offer but we can't accept it. These cars sell more then what your wanting to offer us. so they will be held for another customer. Good luck with your search. It felt as if the words were there, but the spirit was extremely hostile. It made us question whether or not we even wanted to deal with Subaru at all.
