Stress-Free Car Buying Experience with Rich Lyons at McGee
by Cait Evans on 04/19/2025I had an excellent experience working with Rich Lyons at McGee. I was looking for a no-pressure environment, and Rich delivered exactly that. He was incredibly helpful, informative, and made the entire process smooth and enjoyable,… completely headache-free. Kelly also did a great job wrapping up the finance process - friendly and knowledgeable. If you’re in the market for a car and want a stress-free experience, I highly recommend asking for Rich!Great experience
by Mayra on 03/16/2025Peter, Amanda and Andrew were all amazing. I was a little nervous since it was my first time ever buying a brand new car. But the staff at McGee really took care of me. I did not once feel pressured. I was able to get an amazing price for… the car and color I wanted. Peter was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable of the vehicle I purchased. He took the time to inform me and show me all the cars features and connect my phone to my new car. Peter provided outstanding customer service. I highly recommend purchasing a car from him ! Thank you Peter!Mayra, we're delighted to hear that Peter, Amanda, and Andrew made your first car-buying experience at McGee Toyota of Hanover a positive one! Best car purchase of my life, and sweet ride (4Runner TRD Pro)
by Evgeni Belin on 11/02/2024This was the nicest car purchase in my life. Bill (Williamson) was very helpful, and moved things along quickly. No pressure, helpful advice, no tricks. The entire process was quick and painless. You can tell this was not the first vehicle… that Bill sold. Facility is nice and clean. Interestingly, they are celebrating 50 years at this location (opened in 1974 -- incidentally, the year I was born). Thanks for the sweet, sweet ride and we might pay a visit soon -- our kids are growing. Also, I wish I could post the pic of my new ride :)Evgeni, we're delighted to hear that Bill and the McGee Toyota of Hanover team made your car purchase such a pleasant experience. Enjoy your new ride, and we look forward to seeing you again when you're ready for another visit!

Thanks for the kind words and for bringing your furry friend along too!
Won't buy another car at McGee
by Unsatisfied on 07/26/2024Arranged to pick up my vehicle on a Thursday after a long explanation to the sales rep as to why I could not pick it up Wed. Received a call on Wed evening asking when I would show up. Had to go through the explanation again. Arrived… Thur evening and picked up the vehicle. No inspection sticker as the inspection system was down statewide but no one told me this piece of information. Arranged to bring it in Mon morning at 8:00 as I was leaving for Maine later that morning. Arrived and no one knew I was coming. Sales rep failed to make the appointment as he said he would. Also told about the inspection at that time. Car needed a JBL speaker to be installed too. Made another appointment for today to get the inspection and the speaker installed. Sat for 1 hour and 40 minutes for a 10 minute inspection on a brand new vehicle. When told I was all set to go, the service rep hands me a bubble wrapped speaker and sends me on my way. There's a credit card-sized black piece included. No buttons and no instructions as to what it us or how to use it. I was told by a friend not to purchase my vehicle at McGee and now I see why he said that. Thank goodness I had my last Toyota 13.5 years. Cannot stand dealing with dealerships. This dealer is not honest
by Anthony L on 03/27/2023This dealer isn't honest, asking price: $58,888 for Toyota Tundra Limited and I offered $56,000, the dealer accepted my offer with condition I have to go dealer purchase the same day or go to dealer to make the deposit. I made an… appointment 2 hours later after hung up the phone, I live in Worcester, MA took me 90 minutes to get there in rush hour. I got there on time, walked in, and sale man told me the car just sold 5 minutes ago. Today, exactly 7 days after they told me that" the car has sold 5 minutes ago". the car still listing and price reduced to $58,688 Peter Higgins, Internet Sales Manager who accepted my offered $56,000, and today sent me and email told me the price has dropped $58,688. I couldn't believe Mcgee Toyota of Hanover tried to get customer come over to the dealer by telling lie (accepting customer offer but you have to come here today to make the purchase)A predatory day-light robbery saleservice
by Q Ha on 02/16/2023The latest purchase with McGee, now reflecting back, has been as bad as it could be for consumers. Posting this review as a warning for future customers. Even after a 10% mark up (which is literally a robbery), I was quoted a price for the… 10-year Vehicle Service Agreements that is WAY MORE THAN TWICE what people have reported purchasing the service for. I was lucky enough to ask for a full refund since it is within 30 days of purchase. Overall, a very bad purchase experience and I strongly recommend against working with them. What a greedy and predatory sales practice. Avoid McGee at all costs and shop elsewhere.Sales -Poor Customer Service
by Peter126 on 08/11/2019Today, Sunday, I arrived at the Hanover dealership. I had set up an appointment with Robin for today on Saturday, to see and test drive a new Highlander Hybrid Limited. She told me they were in stock. I confirmed the appointment with her… around 12:50pm today saying that we would be there at 1:30. When we arrived we were greeted by a salesman who told us that Robin was the internet contact and he would show us the cars. He had us sit and fill out a contact sheet. I thought this was not necessary as I already had given all my information to Robin. He then asked what kind of car we were interested in. I told him we were here to see the Highlander Hybrid Limited Platinum. He said he would try to find one as it is a niche car. He left and was gone for over 15 minutes. I finally went into the sales managers area where there were 3 men. I told him we had been here for over 20 minutes and did not know where the salesman was. They said that he was probably getting the car from the back lot. I told them we were very disappointed in their service as I had a confirmed appointment and expected that a car would be there ready for me. They said many people have appointments and do not show. I told them I had confirmed my appointment 30 minutes before I arrived. He said many people with confirmed appointments don't show up. We left as the men didn't seem to be any help. As we were going out the door the salesman arrived with a car. I asked him which car it was and he said a Highlander Hybrid XLE. He said we could have the Limited Platinum tomorrow. We left as they were certainly not able to show what we had been promised and will go to a dealership who vales the business. This would have been my 6th Toyota. I am not sure if I will continue to look at Toyotas but will certainly not look at McGee cars againJoe D sales experience
by Ali on 11/16/2018Joe D was extremely helpful in working with us to choose the best option for our Toyota. He was personable and quickly got us driving in our new car! I would highly recommend going to McGee and ask for Joe D as your salesman.2016 Toyota Corolla
by Stephen on 07/26/2018updated 08/08/2018After entering the parking lot we were greeted by Dan Gilbrook we were looking for a used car for my mother. Dan had such a great personally and professionalism about him. We test drove two vehicles he explained the various aspects of both… cars including the safety features of each. We did end up purchasing the 2016 Toyota Corolla he made the purchase very easy o deal with. I would recommend him to anyone going into that dealership.Vinnie and Dave made it happen
by Marshley on 07/01/2018updated 07/13/2018The best salesman and finance personnel in the business went there with little expectations left 3 days later in a brand new Corolla and we love it!!!!!Complicated sale made easy
by Rob_C on 07/02/2018We had a leased Rav4 that needed to be turned in which is normally a pretty easy thing to do. However, our car has a device in it that required a lot of coordination between the dealership, the bank, the registry and the installer. Spanky… stepped up and made the whole process easy for us. He worked out a great deal to get into a new car and helped us to coordinate the whole process after the sale. Thank you Spanky!Dishonest
by 4WHEELER02134 on 06/05/2016Horrible dealer! Top tier 750 fico, played monthly payment tactic. Would not give me the interest rate, so I calculated it when they left and it was around 12% apr! Lowball trade in, try to tell you that you have to sign a sales and… purchase agreement or they can't run your credit through the banks. Big fat lie! They run you through several financial institutions for (allegedly) best intetest rate and rack you up with credit lowering inquiries. I was pre-approved via their Internet sales team before going in, was quoted as a 2.9 or so apr, when I arrived that was all null! They claim it wasn't done. BS. Had over 40 emails to back this all up! The saled rep was a kid and would not tell me the interest rate that their ridiculous monthly payment was based on. I asked over and over... "How many months and what apr"?. As I said it was 11.5% higher than the internet sales approval. The sales kids said to me" if you don't do things my way your not going to get the best price". These people treat you like you are some low life, with no education with poor crefit. My last new car purchase I borrowed money online in the amount of 30,000 dollars within 24 hours with a 2% interest rate. The sales manager Mike Gillbrook was equally insulting and an absolute disgrace! Same nonsense as the kid salesman. Do not go near this place. It's troubling to think that someone would buy a new vehicle based on some [non-permissible content removed] quoting him a monthly payment, without divulging an interest rate, especially with a 750 fico score. I'm sure there's more but they wasted enough of my time already BEWARE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.Great Experience
by daveburns789 on 03/24/2016I recently leased my third vehicle from McGee. I dealt with Jeff Ford. He spent two hours with me. Jeff is very patient. I was comparing Rav 4 vs Camry. I decided the Rav 4 was the right fit and I love it.Stay Away But If You Go Watch Out for These Things
by MyBigMistake on 10/04/2015Worst car buying experience of my life. I plan to discuss it with them in small claims court. Here are the things that based on my experience you should look out for. 1. If you have a trade they will begin with a ridiculously low… value. When you start to leave they will say it was just their first offer. Later when you are negotiation they will claim that you should come down on the trade value because they came up on their initial (ridiculously low) offer. When they give you that ridiculously low value just walk out. 2. If you go in with a TrueCar price they will claim that they honor it. They will then say that it does not include the destination fee and will add on $895. Based on my research the TrueCar price does include the destination fee. Why not just go with a real TrueCar price dealer? At a minimum print the TrueCar frequently asked questions where the issue is addressed. 3. If you reach a verbal deal they will push for a very high down payment on your credit card and have you sign some paperwork. Do not give them any money at this point. Once they have your money they have you. You can always give the down payment when you are in with the finance manager. Also make sure that anything that you sign contains all of the information, to include VIN, cost, trade in amount, etc. Do not sign anything with just a payment amount. 4. They may make you wait to get in to do the paperwork with the finance manager. I believe that this is to soften you up so you are not paying as much attention. Stay on your guard. If you have taken the advice noted above and have not signed anything or given any money, feel free to leave. You will probably get a better deal elsewhere. 5. They will really pressure you to get an extended warranty. If you do get it, pay careful attention because they will sell you one from a company called Portfolio without telling you it is not a Toyota Warranty. This company has less than stellar reviews on the web. Make sure that you are getting the Toyota Warranty that you are expecting. I was amazed that I bought a new Toyota from a Toyota dealer and was sold a third party warranty. (After I took delivery they did swap this out for a Toyota Warranty.) 6. Do not trust the monthly payment. I got quoted a monthly payment only to realize when I was home that I had a 63 month loan. Ever hear of a 63 month loan? Neither have I. 6. They do have one very neat trick that may be handy for anyone in the process of a divorce. I have given them an extra star for this because it may be helpful in certain curcumstances. They will take a car that is owned jointly in trade without getting the signature of both owners. I don't think this is a legitimate practice but they insist that it is. I have written a letter to the RMV to find out. Please learn from my experience and go else where.Great car buying experience
by A245728 on 07/30/2015Went with my 75 year old Mom to help her buy what will probably be her last new car. We had been to two other dealerships with mixed feelings on how they do business. Aggressive, smothering and just plain "pushy" was how we felt until we… sat down with Peter Croke of McGee Toyota. He was informative and took the time with us to show us all the different features of the new Camrys. He never once tried to force a sale down our throats. Best of all McGee matched the best price we could find anywhere. All in all it was a very stress free, comfortable experience and I would recommend McGee Toyota to all my friends.New 2015 RAV4 - Loving It!!
by nataliew1 on 06/01/2015Leased a new RAV4 at McGee after being a Camry girl for many years and love it!! Thanks Peter Croke for taking the time to explain everything to me!! If you want a great sales rep and wonderful experience than Peter is your man!!BAIT & SWITCH
by summer27 on 08/20/2010I recently went to McGee Toyota and I have one phrase to sum up this dealership "BAIT AND SWITCH." This dealership is why car salesman have a bad wrap of being sleazy and dishonest. They advertise the price they paid for the car online… and in their ads so it looks like such a good deal, even when thoroughly looking through the ad there is no fine print of "price reflects down payment or any other exclusions." When you go to do the paperwork for the car they raise the price thousands than the advertised price. All the managers are around constantly and available before they reveal the price they want for the car, then once you bring up the ad again and try to find out why they are raising the price they scatter and are all of a sudden unavailable. The Attorney General's office was contacted and they did confirm that the dealership legally has to honor the lowest price advertised on the vehicle. The dealership still refused to honor the advertised price. Went elsewhere and purchased a vehicle, but did follow up with Attorney General and submitted a formal complaint and McGee is being investigated. So hopefully this will happen to fewer people. The worst Toyota or any car dealer
by jessiefrost on 05/18/2010Very unfriendly, pushy, and misleading. I had trouble with the finance office trying to sell an extended warranties when I constantly kept saying no just the car, the rudder he (Jim) became. Then I would ask how much a month and ask… "that's just for the car right?" he would tell me no that is with the extended warrantee. Anyone who writes a positive review must work there. When I went back a week later to get my inspection sticker, the tech told me it wouldn't pass because the tint(that was on when I bought it) was to dark. After that he told me he could get a friend or someone he knew to remove it and put new tint on. Not to mention If you call the GM Jamie 3 times and tell him your upset and leave him a message to call back, No call back, right to voice mail after about 2 rings, wow good customer relations Jamie Keep up the good work. by lucky5mb on 12/09/2009My experience at the Hanover McGee was awful. We were lied to and almost ripped off! Im so glad my deal didnt go through. For example,I was on the phone with my husband trying to find out a price of a car I was interested in (while the… sales guy was looking into "something" for me).My husband told me the price he found on the dealership website. When I told my guy what the price was that I would be paying,he told me that it wasnt the price! I told him I was juston the phone with my husband and he told me the price he saw online.McGee proceeded to show me the price shown on the website after he logged on which was thousands of dollars more than what we just saw! He told me he has no control over the price change, but thats a lie because his manager who he was talking to five minutes prior does have access! So while I was o nthe phone wiht my husband,he was out talking to his manager who were online changing the price because they knew I was interested in the car!!!!!!Lying people.I will never forgive them for trying to screw me over. They are [violative content deleted] and will steal your money.I would not advise anyone to go to McGee in Hanover to purchase a used or new car.Very unprofessional, smoking constantly when we were looking at cars. They dont care about you, they care onlyl about stealing your money and giving you a defected car.Good thing I brought one car to the mechanic first and paid 90 dollars because they told me the car was a piece of junk and to not buy it! I should have learned then, but instead I went back again and then I was lied to again!!!horrible experience
by iamme27 on 07/05/2009i went to mcgee to buy a used car and got lied to, got attitude, almost got ripped off, and had an overall horrible experience. i am reporting them to the better business bureau for false/misleading advertising and inappropriate business… practicies. they over charge by thousands and do not value their customers; they imbody every stereotypical characteristic of a used car dealer. they even told me that my deposit was non-refundable when i was told by one of the other salesmen that it was 100% refundable. i have never been treated/spoken to by a sales person in my life and cannot believe they have such a good rating on edmunds, check out their rating on google though cause it tells a completely different story.
