2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid Review

The three-row 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid is Kia's second-largest SUV and largest hybrid vehicle. Its starting price lies between the less expensive non-hybrid Sorento and the lineup's new Sorento Plug-in Hybrid. The much smaller Niro is the brand's other hybrid SUV.

The Sorento Hybrid is unique because there aren't many three-row hybrid SUVs in the market. You might also consider the slightly larger and more expensive three-row Toyota Highlander Hybrid or the two-row Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid and Toyota Venza SUVs. The only other non-luxury three-row hybrid SUV is the much more expensive Ford Explorer Hybrid.

The Sorento Hybrid is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a hybrid system that makes 227 horsepower. It has an EPA-estimated combined driving rating of 37 mpg (35 mpg with all-wheel drive), which is 11 mpg more than the non-hybrid Sorento with the base engine. It's also more efficient than Kia's compact Forte sedan. The previously optional 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation is now standard, and all-wheel drive becomes an option for the 2022 model year.

Besides efficiency, the Sorento Hybrid has plenty going for it. It comes loaded with many standard features, offers impressive passenger room, and is equipped with a large touchscreen featuring an easy-to-use infotainment system. With the exception of a limited amount of cargo space behind the third row, negatives are few and far between for this highly rated SUV.

The 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid is a small SUV with three rows of seating that can carry up to six passengers (the second row has captain's chairs). It's available in two trim levels: S and EX. Both are powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a hybrid system and a six-speed automatic transmission. Combined output is 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is an option.
