The best experience I had with a car dealer (+ a very good deal).
by Lukasz on 06/17/2021Out of all the cars I've bought over the years (this was the 6th one), I've had the best experience and a very good deal from Dwayne Lane's Skagit Subaru. (I got a Subaru Forester 2021.) I've worked over email with Taylor - they gave me… the best price out of 11 Subaru dealerships I've contacted (from Olympia in the south all the way to Dwayne Lane in the north). Taylor was very accommodating and I felt comfortable working with them, even though (because of market conditions and semiconductor shortages) my new car wouldn't have a VIN number for more than a week, and wouldn't arrive for a few weeks (e.g. I got screenshots from the internal Subaru website confirming the ETA and the identity of the car + I got in advance all the detailed numbers for our deal). Because of how far Dwayne Lane is from me, we discussed the trade-in value only over email and I decided to keep the trade-in (I had higher offers from 2 local dealers + decided in the end to keep the car for my almost-driver-age son). No trade-in meant getting to Dwayne Lane was a bit difficult for me, but I respect their offer and the straightforward way of presenting and discussing the offer. Getting to Dwayne Lane was a bit challenging for me - I ended up taking a Greyhound + a Mount Vernon taxi. I think this was still a good decision given how efficient the overall process was at Dwayne Layne (the time saved getting to Mount Vernon would probably otherwise be wasted negotiating stuff at other dealers). I even managed to get some work done when on the bus. And Jose was very understanding of the distance: offering to mail the license plates once they arrive at the dealership + explaining how the free oil change they offer can be redeemed when I am nearby, at a time convenient to me. Negotiating the Subaru price and the trade-in price was straigthforward with Taylor. There were no dealer add-ons I was asked or pressured about, nor any other gimmicks. I was asked about an extended warranty when completing the paper work with Jamie in the finance department, but my rejection was very well taken and we didn't dwell on that at all (in the past other dealerships tried to sow doubt about my understanding of the warranty or criticized/blamed my financial status). Finally, I note that Mount Vernon has the lowest sales tax rate of the 11 Subaru dealerships that I've considered (8.7%).Great experience
by LaurieJ7 on 08/30/2016updated 09/09/2016Used car shopping is not something I look forward to. This time was different. Salesman Seth Price at Skagit Subaru made all the difference. Literally no pressure, no hassles, very open about prices, options explained but not forced on you.… He was very knowlegable and listened to what we wanted. I would HIGHLY recommend Seth and Skagit Subaru. Jennifer in Finance was a pleasure to work with as well. And I got my Subaru! Thanks Skagit Subaru. You have quite the team. They lost a good sale, and all our future service needs.
by matthewsfamily on 07/24/2014We first went in to this dealership to look at the new WRX and STI about 2 months ago. Tom greeted us and was friendly enough. He showed us the WRX, but was hesitant to let us test it, saying it would be best to wait until a STI came in for… a better comparison. We gave him our info, and he said he would call us when the STI came in. Delivery dates came and went. No call was received even after we saw the car on the lot on a random drive by. We went in on our own after several days of no calls telling us the car had arrived. We were greeted by Martin W., who happily took us on test drives of several different vehicles so we could narrow down our decision. He spent several hours with us, and was absolutely fantastic to work with. No pressure, knowledgeable, and willing to work. We told him we would be back in a month or two to purchase/order when we made our decision. Having made our decision, we went online to request some quick quotes before heading in. Tom was the first to respond with a generic "thanks for your interest, I'll get back to you soon." He didn't. Twice brushed off by this guy. Roy Robinson in Marysville responded right after, with an actual figure. After several days, we decided to go back to Skagit in person since no one would respond to the email. Here comes Michael J. He seemed friendly enough at first, but things quickly turned. I had only come in to get a quote, to see if he would be willing to beat RR's quote, and to have a couple questions answered. When I asked him if he would be able to meet or beat the financing we had lined up, he all but scoffed at me when I told him the rate and the look on his face was calling BS . He said "Well, We'll have to run your credit to see." Which was fine. I was going to fill out the papers just to have them ready for when we came back in. My next question involved the extended warranty and if it was refundable, as my Toyota's is, if I don't use it. A legitimate question. He clearly is unable to mask his thoughts, as they are readable on his face. He thought I was crazy, and stupid for even thinking of it. He immediately started bad-mouthing my car saying people had nothing but problems, and that it would be all but impossible. Ok, fine. I can deal with a little bit of bad attitude, write it off, whatever. "So what can I do to get you to sign today?" I'm not here to buy today, I'm here to get quotes. RR's offered this much. But if I'm to sign right now, here's my out the door, and I'll bring my wife in to talk. He took my number to his boss (which was low, but room for negotiation, and by no means a low-ball offer) with a smile on his face. He came back with a much different disposition, telling me he would match RR's price, while showing details of another car with different options, (increasing the price over what mine would have been making the example irrelevant), saying that the offer was better than I should expect. When I said no, he returned with a short "ok, goodbye." He stood up, grabbed the build sheet off the table, crumpled it, threw it in the garbage, and walked away, leaving me sitting there at the table. I sat at the table for a few minutes (probably with my jaw dropped) trying to figure out if he really had just walked away like that. I am unable to put to words how rude and disrespectful his attitude and mannerisms were during the 10 minutes I was in the dealership. After spending several hours cooling off, I called up Roy Robinson's and told them about the treatment I received at Skagit. After being told that my treatment at Skagit was typical, they came back with an offer even lower than their original, and I now hold papers for my 2015 WRX order. Had Michael shown me even a little respect from the beginning, we would have come back within the week to place our order (through Martin tho, he was helping another couple when I came in, and had more waiting for him specifically, just because he's great) Michael J.'s attitude in 10 minutes single handedly cost the purchase of our WRX, all of our maintenance and repairs, and the rest of my family's Subaru/Ford purchases. We are driving down to Marysville for our services, where we will be treated with courtesy and respect. MARTY IS AWESOME!
