Dwayne Lane's Skagit Subaru
Dealership Sales Review
We first went in to this dealership to look at the new WRX and STI about 2 months ago. Tom greeted us and was friendly enough. He showed us the WRX, but was hesitant to let us test it, saying it would be best to wait until a STI came in for a better comparison. We gave him our info, and he said he would call us when the STI came in. Delivery dates came and went. No call was received even after we saw the car on the lot on a random drive by. We went in on our own after several days of no calls telling us the car had arrived. We were greeted by Martin W., who happily took us on test drives of several different vehicles so we could narrow down our decision. He spent several hours with us, and was absolutely fantastic to work with. No pressure, knowledgeable, and willing to work. We told him we would be back in a month or two to purchase/order when we made our decision. Having made our decision, we went online to request some quick quotes before heading in. Tom was the first to respond with a generic "thanks for your interest, I'll get back to you soon." He didn't. Twice brushed off by this guy. Roy Robinson in Marysville responded right after, with an actual figure. After several days, we decided to go back to Skagit in person since no one would respond to the email. Here comes Michael J. He seemed friendly enough at first, but things quickly turned. I had only come in to get a quote, to see if he would be willing to beat RR's quote, and to have a couple questions answered. When I asked him if he would be able to meet or beat the financing we had lined up, he all but scoffed at me when I told him the rate and the look on his face was calling BS . He said "Well, We'll have to run your credit to see." Which was fine. I was going to fill out the papers just to have them ready for when we came back in. My next question involved the extended warranty and if it was refundable, as my Toyota's is, if I don't use it. A legitimate question. He clearly is unable to mask his thoughts, as they are readable on his face. He thought I was crazy, and stupid for even thinking of it. He immediately started bad-mouthing my car saying people had nothing but problems, and that it would be all but impossible. Ok, fine. I can deal with a little bit of bad attitude, write it off, whatever. "So what can I do to get you to sign today?" I'm not here to buy today, I'm here to get quotes. RR's offered this much. But if I'm to sign right now, here's my out the door, and I'll bring my wife in to talk. He took my number to his boss (which was low, but room for negotiation, and by no means a low-ball offer) with a smile on his face. He came back with a much different disposition, telling me he would match RR's price, while showing details of another car with different options, (increasing the price over what mine would have been making the example irrelevant), saying that the offer was better than I should expect. When I said no, he returned with a short "ok, goodbye." He stood up, grabbed the build sheet off the table, crumpled it, threw it in the garbage, and walked away, leaving me sitting there at the table. I sat at the table for a few minutes (probably with my jaw dropped) trying to figure out if he really had just walked away like that. I am unable to put to words how rude and disrespectful his attitude and mannerisms were during the 10 minutes I was in the dealership. After spending several hours cooling off, I called up Roy Robinson's and told them about the treatment I received at Skagit. After being told that my treatment at Skagit was typical, they came back with an offer even lower than their original, and I now hold papers for my 2015 WRX order. Had Michael shown me even a little respect from the beginning, we would have come back within the week to place our order (through Martin tho, he was helping another couple when I came in, and had more waiting for him specifically, just because he's great) Michael J.'s attitude in 10 minutes single handedly cost the purchase of our WRX, all of our maintenance and repairs, and the rest of my family's Subaru/Ford purchases. We are driving down to Marysville for our services, where we will be treated with courtesy and respect. MARTY IS AWESOME!
