Best buying experience

5 out of 5 starsby PecNik on 06/01/2025

We recently walked in Mcgrath Honda Of St. Charles looking for a vehicle to purchase. Front desk lady introduced us to Mr. Malak. He made the entire experience seamless and stress-free! His great personality, professionalism, knowledge and efficiency made the buying experience so much easier. He made sure everything was ready for us. Its clear he values his customers time and ensures they get exactly what they are looking for in a vehicle. We highly recommend working with Mr Malak if you're in the market for a new or used vehicle. Very happy with our Honda Pilot.Thank you Mr. Malak!

  • Extensive work done - As always, excellent

    5 out of 5 starsby z917990 on 03/06/2015

I have been a customer at McGrath's Honda for 15 years. I trust them entirely. I always get friendly service from Tom Koch - the work is done competently. McGrath's always provides a loaner car if the work is extensive. I get a 10% discount on all work. I would not patronize an organization for this long if I were not satisfied. Very positive.

  • Happy with my new purchase

    5 out of 5 starsby luvhonda2 on 12/10/2014

I just purchased my 2014 CRV from McGrath of St Charles and I am extremely satisfied. I am happy with the service I received from each individual I dealt with that night. They very patient with me/my needs and went above and beyond to make sure I was thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. This is my second vehicle from this dealership and will definitely be going back.
  • Very Patient Pilot.

I have been to McGrath Honda 3 times prior to this to try to purchase vehicles, 2002, 2003,and 2009. Each of those times we walked out of the dealership either because of the way the salesman treated us or because their pricing was just way out of line. HOWEVER, this experience was much different they must have a new regime of people there. We went in to look at the CRV told them up front we were not even going to entertain purchasing that night, and ended up test driving the CRV and the PILOT. We loved the Pilot we told the salesman what we were looking for and that we would be back. The only thing I didnt like was that the salesman called us multiple times to see when we would be ready to buy. Other than that we went back 3 times to look at the vehicles, to ask questions, and to see the colors during the day. After changing our minds 3 time on the color we purchased the Pilot. It took forever to get the paperwork done but they were even able to beat the interest rate for financing that I was able to get elsewhere and we were able to get an awesome price for the car. You just need to know your bottom line when you go into deal with any dealership. So so far so good I haven't had to work with the service department yet. So I'm hoping their staff works with us as well as everyone else did.
  • brake disc scheme

    1 out of 5 starsby goodguy12 on 07/14/2014

service manager said my discs needed replacing, and I said OK,but wanted to see the old discs when I picked up the car. Discs were no where to be found, and he tore up one set of repair orders in front of me and had them reprinted. Several calls to servicemanager and dealer management were ignored
  • Beware Misleading Internet Quotes To Lure You IN....

1 out of 5 starsby scottque on 07/08/2014

I have twice now tried to buy a new Odyssey Touring (2008 & again in 2014) from this spacious, modern dealership, which is about 2 miles from my home. Both times I have failed. For the 2008, there was about a $2,000 price gap between their offer and a competitive dealer. Fair enough. Most recently, I received an excellent internet quote, and spoke to the internet sales guy on the phone to set up an appointment at the dealership the next morning. Turns out the internet quote was extremely misleading - to put it nicely - as it had factored in over $1,000 in incentives that I did not qualify for, and another $500 that expired the same day that I received the quote. Further, there was no coordination between the internet sales guy and the sales guy at the dealership. Once at the dealership, I had to go over all of my information and wants again, and eventually the sales guy said they did not even have color that I wanted - when the internet guy told me the day before that they did! The sales guy then proceeded to tell me he had a great deal on a pre-owned 2011 vehicle!! Long story short, they eventually located the color and I was considering buying the car at a higher price, but they then low-balled my trade-in at about $1,500 lower than I eventually got from a competitive dealer. Long story short, I wasted 90 minutes of my time with these guys, and I will never try them again.
  • Best experience

4.8 out of 5 starsby maryslew on 07/06/2010

After an exhausting time shopping through the internet for a the car of my dreams I landed on this dealership. Met with Cara and she new the right questions to ask after driving three different vehicles I realized the right one for me. With no hassles she got right down to the price I was looking for and made my life easy! I was dreading this process and all the horror stories faded away with how nice it was to deal with a women who was professional and took care of my needs. I would definitely come back and have with my friends.

1 out of 5 starsby hmsmark on 06/21/2010

This happened today, 6/21/2010. The wife and I walked in ready to buy/lease a Honda Civic. A salesman: early 20s; wrinkled, misbuttoned shirt, poorly tied tie (think Jonah Hill from Superbad and Get Him to the Greek) comes up to us. I tell him I'm looking at the Civic and saw their ad in the paper. He asks if I read the fine print and that those prices were only for "Tier 1" credit (this indicates that their ads may be bait and switch BS). We have very good credit, probably what they consider Tier 1, but I told him I wanted to look at and test drive the car as that I've never seen the inside of or driven a Civic. The salesman said "I need to run your credit now before you look at the car because I don't want to waste my time." I kid you not, this 22 (or so) year old kid is a [violative content deleted] straight out of the 70s. He was only missing the plaid suit (though the wrinkled, slacker look didn't make him look particularly competent)! I tell him that I need to SEE the car in question before we start talking price or running credit scores. He again says "I don't want to waste my time! I do this with everyone before I show them the car." I tell him I don't want to waste time either, but I need to see the product before we start talking numbers, and he indicates that we'll test drive before we crunch numbers. So, he comes back with a worksheet, and I give him name, address, and what I'm looking for. He then says, well, I'll just run the credit score... Now I get upset. I haven't SEEN the car and he wants to run my credit to see if I'm worthy to gaze upon a Honda Civic. I tell him that this is ridiculous, and that I'm not running anything until I see the car and know it's a product I want to consider. Again he says: "I don't want to waste my time..." I mean, this is not my first rodeo. I've bought a car before. I've been able to look at it and take it around the block without giving over my social security number and so on. I've NEVER heard the words "I don't want to waste my time" from a salesman. He then asks if I would like to talk to his manager, because I tell him that he's wrong, that I should be able to look at a car before you run my credit (again, I have great credit and the wife has even better). I said sure, bring him out. We wait 5-minutes, no manager, and the wife and I get up. He may not want to waste his time, but they're sure wasting mine. As I walk past him and his manager talking to another customer, he calls after me. I keep walking, but the wife turns back and I go back. I'm about to go ballistic and start critiquing this "salesman's" wrinkled shirt and whole "slacker" appearance, and that doesn't get me into a new car, so I just want to go. So, another manager comes out and asks if he can help as I'm collecting the wife. If I'm worried about being rude, I'm worried about her being... more rude! I relate the story to the other guy, and he does apologize and offers another salesperson, but I'm done! If they allow Mr. "I don't want to waste my time" to operate that way, then this is not a place I want to do business. I mean, I'm a professional and so is my wife. We own two houses! We have very good credit! Granted, I want a cheap car, but this is a car I drive to work. A to B, not something for fun, and I basically have the fat kid from Superbad treating me like I'm an ex-con with $5 in the bank instead of a professional who could buy the car in cash if I wanted! And even if I didn't have some money in the bank and a good job, no one deserves to be told "I don't want to waste my time" and be refused service unless a credit score was run! So I make sure they know how he operates, and I can't believe I'm the first to call him on it (unless it's is first day), and leave. How many of you would put up with "I need to see if you can afford this car before I waste my time?" Not too many, I'd imagine. Well, my advice, go elsewhere for your Honda! That's what I'm
  • great experience

5 out of 5 starsby stccoach on 07/08/2009

We had a great experience at McGrath. Dave and the guys were great, very professional and helpful in the entire process. No pressure, great atmosphere, clean dealership. Talked to my wife, did not just direct all comments and answers to me. We looked around, did homework on the internet and kept coming back to McGrath. They have gained a returning customer. Lifetime car washes and a loaner car during service visits is a major plus. No inconvience to the customer, that is great.
  • A positive experience, my new dealer

    5 out of 5 starsby 98sporty on 12/15/2008

After visiting ALL of the area Honda dealerships from La Grange all the way to Joliet, McGrath Honda of St. Charles is my new Honda dealer. I bought a '09 Odyssey, and got a good and fair deal. My salesman Frank Salerno walked my wife and I through the entire process. My wife and I have a newborn, so we were working with two hour windows (inbetween feedings to be away from the baby) and he made great efforts to accomodate us. I cannot say enough about his efforts to sell us a car and his attention to our every wish and detail. The McGrath of St Charles dealership building is very nice (new) and has a nice lobby and waiting areas. McGrath of St Charles has a very large loaner fleet for their customers. It is not a rental car, it is a loaner, this is a lot of what prompted me to purchase there. And for the future, they have a secured children's playroom for when my wife brings in the van for oil changes and free lifetime car washes. I have been impressed with their service dept as I had several aftermarket things put on the van. If you are looking for a great deal and a dealer that truly embraces customer service, McGrath Honda of St Charles will take care of you!

I arranged to buy my new 2013 Honda Civic Lx on Wednesday, and paid for it and picked it up on the following Friday. Eric, the sales associate who worked with me, drove to my house (10 or 12 miles from the dealership), followed me to the car rental agency to return the car I had rented, then drove me to the dealership, where I paid for my car. The only part of the experience I didn't like was waiting for all the paperwork to be done and sitting through the warranty explanations. This was my second experience with McGrath Honda and it had streamlined its service since my first experience in January 2006. Perhaps it took less time to buy my new Civic than in 2006 because I knew exactly what I wanted, and it was immediately available. Eric was very personable and a big help to me. He also took the extra time to call me a few days after I had the car to ask how it was doing for me. I had no complaints.

After getting some bad news on my current cars health, the sales team helped me get out of my 2003 Accord and into a new one. Before writing this I read some of the other reviews. My experience has so far been wonderful over the last 3 years of servicing my vehicle here and the process to buy a new car went smooth. I would recommend McGrath as I believe they treated me like a human being and didn't try an pressure.
  • Worst sales department and sales manager

I had gone to St Charles Mcgrath Honda dealership to purchase a new Honda Pilot Touring. It was one of the worst experiences I had ever. a. The sales person does not even have the courtesy to get up from his chair and invite the customer b. He is not ready to give a quote and does not want to tell me what price he will sell it to me. c. The sales manager, name is Rick, was rude d. Instead of talking and discussing the deal, he goes about rudely telling me that I should reduce my expectation and go buy something else. Who does he think he is? He is not paying nor is he buying? Nor does he own Mcgrath or us? There are times folks do not have the numbers meet, but then there is a way to do so. e. He just walks away and says you can go. f. If he is a sales manager and he behaves this way, then the sales personnel is of the same kind g. I believe these 2 personnel need to be fired right away since they do not want this dealership to make any business and want to drive away customers I highly recommend folks not to go to this dealership. These folks are tarnishing the Honda brand name, the dealership and the good town of St. Charles

I used Edmonds online form to get a quote from these guys and they never provided it. Yet, a guy from their sales department has left over 45 messages on my voice mail during the last month and a half! This is harrassment. We had previously been ripped off from their service dept but figured we'd still buy a new car from them if their price was good, and then get it serviced elsewhere. This dealership is complete [non-permissible content removed].
  • Extremely bad customer service from Service Department

I had one of the worst service experiences at McGrath Of Saint Charles. The Service Advisor's name was Eric Phillips. I am a new Acura owner and I had gone there to change to Nitrogen in my car tires. I had even booked an appointment. Firstly, he sits at his desk and talks for 3 -5 mins. And then he does not even have the courtesy to approach me (the customer) and calls me to his desk and asks me what I needed. Plain simple customer service is not even shown by him. As an Acura owner, you do get complimentary loaner car service and a lot of benefits and is clearly evident in the owner's guides. I did mention that I had a service appt and needed a loaner car. He first says it will take him 20 mins. He then without the courtesy of completing the conversation just tells me to wait since he is busy and has to pick up another phone call. He does not even have the courtesy to complete the conversation. And then I ask him if he does not have the bandwidth to help me out. He says, I cannot get the loaner car and I get nothing. He was so rude. I did tell him that I would take it up to his management and he said that nothing can be done to him and I get nothing. I let the Sales Manager at McGrath Honda of Saint Charles know about it too. I mentioned this to my Acura dealership and the Acura dealership (Morton Grove McGrath) personnel, Matt who was wonderful. He said he will take care of it and escalate it to the management. I have requested my Acura dealership never to send anything with regard to Service to McGrath of Saint Charles. I will never ever visit this dealership for any Service or Sales. This is one of the worst dealerships in Saint Charles and they carry a Honda name and tarnish it. I am better to go to another dealership or an outside car repair shop than be go to this McGrath Honda dealership at Saint Charles. I recommend that no other customer goes to McGrath Honda of Saint Charles.
  • Used Car Buyers BEWARE of McGrath Honda in St. Charles IL

I am writing to tell you about an incident that happened to us at the McGrath Honda dealership in St. Charles, Illinois. It is significant in that, in my opinion, the incident reveals a questionable and possibly even unethical business practice that, at the very least, questions the honesty and integrity of this dealership. Yesterday, my husband spent a significant amount of time looking at and test driving a 2010 Honda Odyssey at McGrath. He was dealing and working with a salesman named Rick Davis. After the test drive, my husband liked the vehicle enough to start discussing pricing. We have been looking for a 2010 Honda for several weeks, and were very interested in the one at McGrath because it was the model we wanted and had all of the features plus relatively low mileage. The McGrath price was: $31,998. My husband discussed the price of a comparable car that was for sale at CarMax, and Mr. Davis told my husband he would match that price (which was $30, 991). Since I would be driving the car primarily, my husband told Mr. Davis that I needed to see the vehicle, but that I work during the day. Mr. Davis encouraged my husband to take the car home after telling him that he would match the price of the CarMax car. There was a ‘gentleman’s handshake’ which implied (and to my husband meant) that if we wanted the car at that price, it was ours. My husband left the dealership around 4:00 p.m. and drove the car home to Lombard, and we test drove it in the evening. I loved the car, and took the day off work so that I could take the car to our mechanic and, if all went well, go to St. Charles with my husband and purchase the car. In the a.m., I took it to my mechanic and had it inspected. Another sign of our serious intent to purchase this car. The car was in great shape, according to our mechanic. We headed to McGrath and, on the way, my husband called to inform Mr. Davis that we were on our way. That is when, at roughly 2:00 today, we were informed that the car was “SOLD” last night. Apparently, someone (who allegedly had seen the car before and not wanted it) had come in and put a deposit on the car WHILE WE HAD IT in Lombard, and while we were under the explicit impression that the car was ours to buy. So, this brings up several questions: • Why was the car sold when we were told, essentially, it was ours for the price we were willing to pay? • Why did the dealership not contact us when this potential buyer arrived, to give us a chance to put a deposit down over the phone? • Did Mr. Davis call this other prospective buyer to notify him that there was a family interested in buying the car to motivate this other individual? • Did the other ‘buyer’ pay the full price – making them more attractive a buyer than us? • Does this sound like an honest, fair and ethical business practice? Selling a car AFTER agreeing on a price and while the car is being driven by another potential and very motivated buyer? It certainly does NOT to us. That is why we are writing to you, and the BBB and Angie’s list and any other organization that has the capability to share our disheartening and disappointing experience with potential customers of McGrath of St. Charles. To add insult to injury, my daughter cried ½ of the way home because that was “her car.”

After explaining that I did not have the time to negotiate, "just tell me what you will sell the car for", the sales manager gave me an insulting quote. I had told them that I was going to buy a car within the next two weeks. I had done some prework on Edmunds and had an idea of what the car should cost. I left McGrath, went on line, got quotes from two other dealerships and purchased a car the next morning from the dealership that contacted me first. McGrath quote was $2000 higher than both of the on-line quotes. Very shady!
