  • Why People Don't Like Buying Cars

2 out of 5 starsby Hanibal on 11/20/2018

Took 2.5 hours to buy the car. Didn't haggle over pricing and I was paying cash, so no need to find financing. Lot of employees seemed to be milling around doing nothing, yet every single question took an inordinate amount of time to get an answer. Also, the prices for my purchase were different on different pieces of paperwork, depending on the document - very confusing. My sales guy was really great, but the entire purchase process left me drained, frustrated, and hungry (literally could not grab a bite to eat while waiting to complete this purchase).

  • Not living up to the deal they agreed upon.

    1 out of 5 starsby Homer_23 on 09/02/2018

My wife and I went to the dealership today 09/01/18. We fell in love with a showroom 2018 Honda Pilot with a window price painted yellow and red on the front windshield for $36,990 + title taxes, plates on the front windshield ( we took pictures of it). The sales staff and I negotiated and agreed on a price for that vehicle at $33,500.00 ( -$500 for my used vehicle) which he made us even shake on it. The salesman took our info to start the paperwork and came back with a final receipt for us to sign. Luckily my wife who is in the banking business looked it over and saw that there was an additional $1010.00 that we questioned. The salesman seemed surprised that she observed that and said “oh I forgot to tell you but that additional $1010.00 was for the running boards that came with the vehicle. We told him that was not right cause we negotiated a deal with that vehicle for $33,500.00. He tried convincing us that it was ok. We asked to speak to a manager which we did. The so called manager who called himself “Jessie” came over to speak to us and asked us what issues did we have. We explained the same situation to him and he responded “the only thing we can do is give you a different vehicle without the floorboards.” His body language said it all of the service he was going to give us. He sat slouch on the chair as if he cared. We said definitely not cause we negotiated the deal with the showroom car not with a different vehicle without the running boards. So anyone who is shopping for a car please look over your final receipt before the same happens to you.

  • DO NOT BUY A CERTIFIED USED CAR FROM HERE

1 out of 5 starsby jochung on 04/21/2018

I bought a 3 year old (33k Miles) certified Honda Accord from here. A year later, I was told I needed the 30k miles services done- new break fluid, transmission fluid, cabin filter, air filter. I ended up spending $500 on these services only a year after buying a certified vehicle. You would think buying a certified car would mean I wouldn’t have to worry about these costly services for at least 3 years. What happened to advertising certified cars as “good as new”? The dealership only does the minimum to “certify” the car. Don’t bother buying a certified car from this dealership. It’s not worth paying the extra for the certification. Before you buy anything certified, make sure the car doesn’t need work for the next few years, meaning make sure the services you need within the first 3 years of the car’s life has already been worked on. I feel like I got ripped off.

  • Terrible experience with Danny Estevez and Ray Abdi

    1 out of 5 starsby tsuratwala786 on 08/27/2015

I have bought 4 cars from Honda on Grand in Elmhurst Illinois and WILL NOT be back. I dealt with Danny Estevez and Ray Abdi. [non-permissible content removed]. They spoke to my wife disrespectfully and me disrespectfully. Instead of decent customer service, I got hostility and rudeness. I'm most upset with the way they spoke to my wife and me as though we were not people or customers.
  • Best prices and great customer service

    5 out of 5 starsby vanchi4life on 03/19/2015

Just bought a new 2015 Honda Accord LX. I got a good price online from Jerry. I went into Honda and Igor met with us and let me test drive. He answered all of our questions. The Accord I test drove was white, but Igor even went to the lot to get a silver Accord for me to compare the color with the white Accord I test drove. Igor also showed me the Obsidian Blue color on a Honda Pilot, since I was thinking about getting the blue accord. They did not have a blue accord at the moment, but they could have gotten me a blue Accord from another dealership with the same great price I got from Jerry. After seeing the Blue Honda Pilot, I went with silver Accord since the Blue gets dirty or looks dirty faster. The next day, Igor gave me the vin number for the silver Accord so we can give it to our insurance company. Igor was not pressuring. I got a good deal on the car, and was able to get the rubber floor mat and rubber trunk tray for a good price. I did not want the wheel locks so he let us buy just the rubber floor mat and trunk tray. The finance guy Mariusz was good too. We did not feel uncomfortable or pressured in there. This is our second time buying a new car from Honda on Grand. The last time in 2009 was a good and easy experience as well. I contacted 12 other Honda's for their out the door price on the Accord LX, and Honda on Grand always have the best prices. This is a good dealership, and Igor is a good sales consultant.

  • Better options out there

    2 out of 5 starsby hondaowner34 on 01/28/2015

The only reason I bought from this dealer was because they had the model/color I wanted for a car that was very hard to find. Their negotiation strategy consisted of giving me a lower-than-average offer for my trade in, and when I sought a higher offer, they came back and tried to sell me more things I didn't need. In other words, the car buying experience everyone dreads. When we finally reached an acceptable price, there was the usual attempt to throw in service plans. Overall their finance department was very condescending and none of the salesmen offered us anything to make us comfortable while we waited around for hours completing this transaction. Also, apparently they thought it was acceptable to lie to a potential customer trying to buy the car we were interested in because they preferred to sell it to someone else with a better credit score. This probably happens all the time, but the whole thing felt very shady.
  • Bought Honda Fit 2015

    5 out of 5 starsby jie_r1124 on 01/14/2015

Bought Honda Fit 12/23/14. Employees at Honda on Grand are nice. Salesperson Jonathan Washington approahed us first when we came in and of course he was the first salesperson. After introducing, looked for Keith Huspen and he is a good guy. He helped Jonathan to get the job done to sell us the car. Tips before to buy car from my experienced: Do your homework which is tips how to buy car and be knowledgeable, how to negotiate, know about the car you want to buy and so on. When negotiate the price double check what you agreed and signed.
  • Great Deal - Great Service

  • Keith H.

5 out of 5 starsby Honjoe on 08/25/2014

Great person to negotiate with. Easy to talk to, very friendly and helpful. I closed the deal to buy Honda CRV within a hour after I walked in the dealer, Honda on Grand, first time, without any appointment. Thank you Keith.
  • Keith H., great job

    5 out of 5 starsby agucwa2 on 08/05/2014

Just this past Saturday me and my wife purchased a 2014 Honda Accord EX. Keith H. is a great salesman and we enjoyed working with him. This is not the first time we came to him and he always meets or exceeds our expectations. Luke was dealing with the financing of the car and also with outstanding customer service skills. Overall this is a great dealership with plenty of inventory, nice/friendly and knowledgeable staff. We will definitely return in the future.
  • Looking for Honda Pilot

    3 out of 5 starsby mandomania1 on 09/17/2009

Went to Honda on Grand looking for Honda Pilot. Had been looking for car for 2 months in 2 states. Sam was second person I spoke with. Nice at first, and knowledgeable about car for sure. Got pushy for me to buy car there. It was a 06 Honda Pilot LX that was certified. Like most people, 2 income earner family and sales staff & manager put off by fact that had to discuss deal with spouse. These guys came off like [violative content deleted]. No way I would send family member there much less a friend. Ended up finding 07 Pilot EX at other dealer with 27kmi. at much better price and sales staff there very nice. I guess nice guys do finish first. Later days Honda on Grand. Take home message: Do what you have to do to find a good deal, but Sam and manager he spoke with TYPIFY stereotypical [violative content deleted] label that car salesmen have. I have tried to be very objective.
  • Lies, Lies and More Lies

    2.6 out of 5 starsby terryt5 on 08/08/2009

Beware of double-talk, condescending psycho-babble, arrogance, and rude behavior by the pseudo-management.... second level talkers. Drill down and you get to this bunch of impolite and uncivil behavior. Go in one night and hear them try to sell a vehicle for "X"; go back a few days later and speak with another manager, and you get the "I'm deeply offended" by your low offer treatment; and "we never said that" or "we never posted different prices on the same vehicle" or "we're entitled to make a PROFIT" or "we just go by the Bluebook values" or ....make up your own line of crap here. They waste your time, treat you like an ignorant rube, and worst of all, lie. Don't go into this place without a Doberman, Pitbull, or a strong sense of humor, and be prepared to waste a lot of time, and be treated to subtle and not-so-subtle insults, derogation of your occupation/livelihood, and integrity. I'd never do business with this outfit again; and I've bought from them in the past.
  • Honda On Grand Sucks Big Time

    1.2 out of 5 starsby pda4 on 07/18/2008

After I quoted a price to the Manager of Honda on Grand, the Manager rebuked and asked me to walk way very rudely without even worrying to negotiate. So pls do not waste time visiting this dealership, it will be a very saddening experience. AN
    • It seems like you have an attitud problem and maybe that is why they asked you to leave. When I purchased there a few weeks ago, the staff was quite friendly, helpful and darn right nice. I have been buying cars every 3 years since 1980 and this is the finest dealership and staff I have met. Try going in as an informed but not a smarty pants type person, it might just get you further.

  • Bob Swanson is a great salesperson.

    5 out of 5 starsby hh08 on 07/13/2008

On Friday June 11, 2008, we went into Honda on Grand to look for a 2008 Honda Civic Hybird. The receptionist asked if we were working with someone and I remembered seeing Bob Swanson's name favorably mentioned several times in Edmunds customer reviews. As a result, I figured I give him a chance and asked to meet him.. We waited a few minutes and we went out to the lot to look at the cars while waiting for Bob. He came out shortly and he was very professional, genuine, knowledgeable and funny (a car salesperson being funny--go figure). Never having test driven a Honda Civic Hybrid before and the only info I had was from extensive internet research, Bob gave us a comprehensive review of the cars features and benefits. But before doing so, he asked why we wanted to buy a Hybrid. He asked how many miles we drove per year and when I told him between 20,000 tp 24,000 miles per year, he said that a hybrid would be a good choice. He said you really need to put a lot of miles on the car per year for a hybrid to be the right car because it is more expensive . A salesperson trying to save a customer money by asking a few key questions was refreshing. He said if we did not have that many miles per year that a standard Civic or Accord would be a good choice. We test drove the car and I was really impressed. To make a long story short, I came back Saturday morning with my wife and met with Bob Swanson again and he was very curteous to my wife as well as me. After I test drove the car again, he asked my wife to give the car a test drive as well. This was the first time a salesperson ever offered my wife the courtesy of a test drive without us asking. He went over all the features of the car again with us and he was not pushy like most car sales people. It was me who finally said let's go in and talk numbers. Usually the saleperson is pushing for the order. Bob Swanson made us feel very comfortable in our purchase decision He treated us like a customer should be treated. We worked out a price that was fair to both of us. While the car was being prepped he then went over all the owner manuals, warranty books etc and made sure that any question or concern we had were answered. He gave us his cell phone number so we could reach him with other questions after the sale. We walked out happy with the car and the experience with dealing with Bob Swanson. The only thing he asked from us in return, was for us to give him 5 referrals. Since Bob was so professional, knowledgable, courteous, and fun I was happy to agree. As a result, I thought I would do one better and put this recommendation on Edmunds so many more people could be reached. A sales person like Bob Swanson should be rewarded with good reviews and more customers. If you go see Bob and have the same experience as we did do a good review for him as well and pass it on. And by the way, we are not related to Bob, but being in sales as I am, I appreciate someone with the same work ethic.
  • Great price, and no waste of time

    4.7 out of 5 starsby gagga5 on 07/13/2008

I have purchased a honda civic LX yesterday at Honda on Grand. It has been hard for me to find the place where offers good price for a civic, but Honda on Grand offered me this car only at an invoice price. Unlike other dealershops, where they haggle and try to sell their cars in such a high price, it only took 10mins for my salesman to get confirmed to give me this offer. I spent about 3hrs at the dealershop. But it was only time for doing my paper work, insurance process and my car getting washed up. Look for Danny or Vincent. They are great people to talk to and there will be no waste of time, show them your cheapest quote ! They will beat it.
  • Honda on Grand = Great Experience

4.8 out of 5 starsby apirici on 04/04/2008

We recently bought a car from Honda on Grand in Elmhurst and had a pleasantly good experience. Steve, the salesman, was nice and didn’t try to push any of their additional products on us. He gave us a better price than any of the other Honda dealers around plus good financing. The financial person, Chandra, was wonderful. She did things quick, explained everything clearly, no hassle. Our car came equipped with the rear entertainment system and although Steve wanted to make sure it works before we took the car home we refused as we were really pressed for time. It just so happened that when we tried it at home, it didn’t work. We went back to the dealer next day and they noticed that it was missing a fuse. They installed it for us, tired it out to make sure it works properly plus told us about other features that we wouldn’t even think of asking about. If you’re looking into buying a Honda and are in the area, try Honda on Grand where you’ll find professional people and good deals.
  • Another Car Dealer that likes to waste customers time!

1.2 out of 5 starsby shershey on 03/18/2008

This was my second stop in after being deceived and lyed to by another dealer we won't mention. I received an internet quote on a vehicle which was by far the lowest price quote I received from dealers. Much to my amazement when I went in not only did the price change but magically the destination of over $600 was now being added not once but twice! I'm still trying to figure out that one. The salesman was extremely nice at first but when I brought up price he immediately got his salesmanager and I was bombarded with different things. All which were to make my price inflate! I can't believe in this day and age of the internet that dealers can get away with this. Another day down the tubes.
