  • Purchase of Hyundai Sante Fe

5 out of 5 starsby DaveandMargie on 06/02/2016

We were pleased with the timeliness of all of the staff, especially Pete Palys. He explained and answered all of our questions, offered comfortable seating and demonstrated the vehicle that we were wanting. He took close to 6 hours with us as we were trading in two cars toward the purchase. He was very patient. I felt like my husband were treated with respect by him, as well as the others on the staff.

Third time buyer at Jenkins Hyundai Ocala as I'm very satisfied with the sales personnel (esp Cody and Daniel), service, friendliness... and quality of the autos. I've been happy owning Hyundais since the first Tiburon came out.
  • Sales Managers are [non-permissible content removed]

1 out of 5 starsby awolfgangc on 11/23/2015

I have bought many cars in my life, and each time travelled to many dealers to shop around. I have never had an experience as bad as the one I had buying a used car from Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala. First, the good, which isn't much. Let's see...One salesman was ok. His name was Jeff. Um, what else... They have a huge nice facility (although it does make you wonder how they pay for all of that... which I found out later). And it's so slow that you have the place to yourself--word must have gotten around about their customer service. We were there for probably 7 hours total on consecutive weekends and only saw one other customer. That's all I got on the positive front. First visit our first salesman (James) demoed the car we wanted after making us wait for 30 minutes while they tried to find the keys (really?!). We sat down to negotiate, he came down 800 bucks on price from the grossly inflated advertised price ($4000 above Edmund's TMV for that car with that mileage). I made a counteroffer that was $1500 above the TMV, and the sales manager-type came and barked at me "that is the price, take or leave it.That price will never change. I will sell this car in a few days." Didn't get his name, but we left it, mostly due to the rude manner he spoke to us. My wife and I were shocked--is it ok to bully customers? And a few hours later, their advertised price on the internet shot up $1000. Good luck with that. We waited a week, there was no follow up email, call, or anything from James. Felt kind of unprofessional but whatever. I emailed him, asking if there had been any change in their counteroffer. This time James said they would knock $400 more off the price and split all the "dealer fees" with us 50/50 (they have high fees, btw). I asked him for the final price including all fees except tax, tags, and title. He gave it to me, I emailed back and verified it again. All set. The next day, we were coming to buy the car, but he wasn't returning any of our messages. Odd. We show up at the dealer and "James isn't here, but you can work with Jeff." Ok... We go to check on the car, and there are two 3 in diameter spots on the back trunk lid where they had ripped the Shriner medallions off and took the paint with them. We point this out and the salesman says it is their fault and they will fix it or give a price concession for me to fix it. Get back inside, and a different [non-permissible content removed]sales manager (Juan) comes and says that they have no record of any deal so they can't offer the number we agreed on, plus they will only agree to touching up the spots on the back with touch-up paint. I have to show him the emails, but he doesn't believe me, and goes back calls the first salesman, who I guess partially backs away from the deal (must have gotten threatened/yelled at). The result is they won't cover their half of the dealership fees. They also will only give $76 price concession because of the paint that was ripped off. I asked if they will still touch it up at least. He tells me NO, it's either $76 or a touch-up, not both, and I should leave if I don't like it (same mean tone as the other manager). I tell him I am shocked that he would alienate a customer like this over $76. He says literally "What do you want, a hug?" Exhausted, we just give up and move forward to see the F&I guy, hoping that in the end the numbers will still add up to the deal we had in writing. We are made to wait 45 minutes even though the place is empty. I finally just go into his office where he is sitting. All goes well, he is much more professional than the managers (his name is Sean) and after signing 20 things we get to the final page which summarizes the whole deal. And of course it is higher than the written deal we made. Not only did they put the full $700 dealer fee back, but they have added a new $150 "filing fee" on top of it. When I ask to have the fee removed, that the subtotal doesn't match what we agreed on, Sean calls in the MEANEST BIGGEST [non-permissible content removed] I HAVE EVER MET into the room who tells me "that's what you have to pay or you can leave. We are losing money on this deal." (NOTE: That is a complete lie--at another dealership, they showed me what that model in the same condition/mileage costs at the auction, it was $2750 less than I was paying Jenkins). I did not get this guy's name because I just wanted his belligerent attitude to go far away. They weren't even done with me then - when they brought the car to me, there was only one key and "you will just have to buy another one, the papers are already signed." I wish I could go back in time and tell my earlier self to never set foot in this place. You shouldn't either. I would tell you to "get it in writing", but they don't even honor that. [non-permissible content removed] (P.S. - Be careful when you are talking to your partner when the salesman walks away-they had the mic/speaker phone on listening to us.)

Our salesman, Gus, was very professional and courtesy. He presented all options to us and was never pushy. I would not hesitate to have him as a salesman the next time we are in the market for another vehicle.
  • nice salesman but sales manager must have thought I was stupid

    2 out of 5 starsby david377 on 01/07/2015

I worked with David there at the Hyundai dealership and he was fine but the manager or the guys who write up the sales offers must have thought I was stupid. Those wonderful letters in the mail that are too good to be true got me in there just to see if I could trade in my 7 yr old vehicle for a new with up to 5k more for the trade. I sit down and wait for their offer with my trade-in and all and it comes back with my trade only being worth a total of 3500 which is a slap in the face and no extra. My trade runs fine, has only 55k miles on it and has nothing wrong with it but some ware on the seats for being 7 yrs old. The price of the new vehicle on the offer sheet is 2k above the sticker price and no incentives were in the figures... After seeing this the salesman saw that there was a big difference in my thoughts on the deal and he asked if I wanted the sales manager to explain things. I talked with the "sales manager" and he tells me that the letter was for a manual transmission and I told him it is a manual transmission in the car. I asked about the extra for the trade and he said he could work a little with that but the the letter was for leasing a vehicle and not buying... Unless I should have failed English in school when it says that your "trade is towards the purchase of a new vehicle" then that means you are buying and not leasing. The letter did not have any per month payments on it is was the amount for purchasing the vehicle before dealer fees, tax, tag and title. I fully expected the final price to be about 2k to 3k above what the mailer had on it. I did not expect it to be 12k higher and about the price if I went to the dealer for purchasing the vehicle without a trade in. Very disappointing and the manager did not seem to know what he was talking about the the sales promotion and not trying to give me a good deal at all.
  • Great People

I dealt with Carolyn Davis and Salina Pistone, and I would recommend them to anyone. They made the buying process relatively painless, and actually fun at times. They were a pleasure to deal with. It's still up to you to do your research and know what a good and realistic price is on whatever car you decide on, but they will work with you to help you reach your goals. I'm happy enough with them, that I'm making a point of sharing my opinion/experience, to encourage anyone who's looking for a new (or used) car, to consider them. You won't be disappointed. • Today, I met with Salina Pistone from Jenkins Hyundai in Ocala. I was interested in a Santa Fe. She was extremely helpful, professional, and upfront. It was a thoroughly pleasant experience...very refreshing compared to most car buying experiences I have had. We have not yet agreed a final price, but first impressions are very good. I think I can recommend her to any new-car buyer. Thanks Salina...look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

    • Outstanding service. We finished the deal mentioned in my previous review. Once again, I dealt with Salina Pistone and Carolyn Davis. Jenkins Hyundai gave me a great deal on my new Santa Fe! Salina and Carolyn listened to me, and worked with me to get to options I wanted at the right price. Throughout the experience it was a fun and positive process. Salina and Carolyn (and the finance department) were extremely professional and helpful throughout, and I love my new car...it is everything I expected and more. Without any reservations, I can heartily recommend Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala, and particularly Salina Pistone and Carolyn Davis. If you are looking for a new Hyundai, give them a call...they will work with you to get the vehicle you want at the right price. Thanks Salina and Carolyn, I realy appreciate all your professional assistance. All the best.

I am writing this for my 88 years old Mother. She no longer has a computer and has asked me to get the word out on this dealership. Though 88 my Mom is still clear-headed, quite active and a remarkably good driver. When she bought her new Hyundai Elantra from Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala, she wanted two things; reliability, and no payments. At 88, she is outliving her savings, but still needs reliable transportation. When her car was delivered, she cashed a CD, and headed back to the dealership to pay it off in full. (A mistake?) So, what possessed my Mother to buy another new car, one month later, again from Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala, and take on debt and a payment? You decide. Sick and weak with Bronchitis, my Mom stopped in for the dealership’s free 1,000 mile ‘checkup’. She needed to be on that side of town and thought she would ‘kill two birds with one stone’, then head home for some much needed rest. Promised by Service to take only 20 minutes, within five minutes, a man from the dealership approached saying, “Mrs. (her name), come with me”. Thinking there was a problem with her ‘baby’, she followed. This salesman retrieved her from Service by name, took her to a Sales office, where for over 3 HOURS the salesmen ‘tag teamed’ this sick woman until they wore her down and sold her a new Sonata. . . just one month after selling her a new Elantra. She told them repeatedly she didn’t need a new car. She told them she had a new car. She asked 3 times where her Elantra was, was it done, so she could leave. She told them she was getting sick. Weak, no keys, no car, she couldn’t leave. They kept selling. until, under duress, they finally won. These young aggressive salesmen finally wore this sick woman down and she bought a car. My Mom, sheepishly replayed the long version of this story to me at my last visit. I immediately set appointments with the Sales and General Manager at Jenkins Hyundai. According to them my sick Mother got a Fair Deal!! Shoot, they even took a loss on the car they sold her! Trust your gut, does this sound like a Fair Deal? - They gave her $13,000 trade-in for a car they sold her ONE month earlier for $25,000. - They sold her a car with more mileage on it than the one she owned. - They sold her virtually every add-on they could (a 10 year extended warranty to an 88 year old?) - When she walked in, she owned her car ‘free and clear’. When she finally left, she owned a car she didn’t want, didn’t need, AND can't afford. From ‘free and clear’ to $8,000 in debt and a $125 / month payment for the next 6 years. My Mom drives cars for 6, 8, 10 years and, never to my recollection less than 5 years. Does that sound like an fair deal negotiated by equal parties, or something far more sinister? You be the judge.
