Bait-and-Switch Scam at Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills Service
by Fifth Mercedes Benz Customer on 03/12/2022I brought my 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 to Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills for service on March 5, 2022 for a complaint of a rattling noise in the passenger-side of the dash (interior compartment). The service clerk scheduled the vehicle for… an oil change instead. Upon arrival, I advised my service advisor, Andreas Kroner, of the purpose of the visit -- a rattling noise in the dash the same dealership attempted to fix earlier, but "could not duplicate the problem." Mr. Kroner advised the appointment was scheduled for an oil change, but recommended service "B" instead due to the mileage (approaching 70,000 miles). I advised Mr. Kroner (three times) that the vehicle could be evaluated for service "B", but any recommendations required my approval before any service(s) were provided. Additionally, the vehicle suffered damage to the windshield and driver's-side rear wheel when striking debris in the roadway (a fallen mirror from a "hippie" bus). I asked to have the vehicle inspected for damages, with emphasis on the wheel well, and asked for a quote for the windshield. Hours after dropping the vehicle for service, I received a flurry of text messages (three) indicating service "B" had been performed and the vehicle was ready for pickup. Neither were true. By the time I called the dealership, they were closed until Monday (March 7, 2022). On March 7, 2022, Mr. Kroner advised the vehicle was not, in fact, ready for pickup, and that the dealership wanted more than $700 for service "B" -- ALREADY PERFORMED without authorization. Mr. Kroner disputed "authorization", claiming authorization was granted by his misrepresentation of the customer's approval for service of the vehicle. Ridiculous. On March 9, 2022, the vehicle was "ready" for pickup. Mr. Kroner arranged a 60% discount off the ridiculous service "B" price of $700+ due to the "misunderstanding" about authorization for the work. I refused and paid for parts only -- $200 -- for service "B", which consisted of changing the brake fluid, changing the cabin air filter, and a bunch of nonsense checks (lights work, carpet clean, etc.). The vehicle was returned to me -- filthy. The porters must have washed the vehicle in the dark -- bugs remained on the hood, dirt in the wheels and door jambs, etc. And a mouthy porter attempted to lecture his customer about parking restrictions while the dealership parks customer and loaner vehicles in handicap spaces. Ridiculous. As I drove from the dealership, the rattling noise in the driver's-side wheel well remained clearly audible. NOT FIXED. The next day, the rattling noise in the passenger's side of the dash returned with cold start. When I contacted Mr. Kroner about the unresolved problems, he encouraged my return with the vehicle for another inspection. Both the vehicle and I are now out-of-state. The only resolve will be visiting another Mercedes-Benz dealer to correct the problems Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills "could not duplicate". An utter waste of time. The bait-and-switch of scheduling a service appointment for an obvious mechanical problem and being scheduled as an "oil change" was unnecessary, but to make matters worse, misrepresenting to a customer that service "B" was due when service "B" was not due or necessary resulted in a bill (the scam) a customer had to pay because of Mercedes-Benz's "misunderstanding". Unlikely to return again any time soon. Beware.Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I apologize for your overall service experience.
