Never Again

by Tammy on 11/02/2017

I'm a single working mother. I purchased my daughters 1st (used) car here. Salesman, Butcher, spoke highly of the service dept & was polite & friendly upon our 1st meeting. He took us for a test drive & there was a slight jerk while accelerating. I said that's the transmission. He said that's just these little 4 cyl. engines & spoke again of their A1 auto dept. Against my better judgement, I trusted him & the quality of their inventory with it being such a large, well established dealership. On our trip home from Wichita we again experienced transmission issues in McPherson, Ks. Roughly 58 miles from Hatchett Hyundai. The next day (we didn't even have the car 24 hours) when the car starting repeatedly jerking hard while trying to accelerate, but failed to, at the same time the RPM's are holding at 4,000 because the transmission wouldn't shift gears & the transmission warning light came on. I told Butcher, he apologized & agreed that I should bring the car back. I took the car to my mechanic & he said from the code reading & the issues we had with it, there's no way the dealership wasn't aware of the problem. We purchased the car on a Saturday so the loan hadn't been finalized through my lender. I told Hatchett & my lender I didn't want the loan for this car & they both agreed it would be cancelled. It was never cancelled & no one would take responsibility for it, just said we should wait & see what the service dept. says. I asked for a loaner car while the other car was being checked out. Butcher agreed. I didn't hear anything for a week & a half, then Butcher called saying the manager was upset for having so many loaners out & we needed to bring it back, though they didn't know when the other car would be done being checked out by the service dept. I was very upset & wanted them to buy the car back, because I knew it had the transmission problems long before we bought it. I was told numerous times that they had sent a check to our lender & bought the car back, but when I would call the loan officer, no check had been received. I called Bull, with the financing dept. that did our paperwork while at Hatchett, he said basically since the contract was finalized that we were owners of the vehicle & their was nothing he could do & was quite rude. Butcher was plain rude by this time & answered all my questions with I don't know. Spencer Cusick, sales manager, called wanting the loaner back, but never mentioned anything about the status of the car being serviced. We made a 3rd trip to Hatchett to return the loaner. Butcher told me they had no idea what was wrong with the car we purchased, but would let us know & if need be, would find a comparable vehicle to replace it. My faith in their ability to be honest & to put the customer 1st was long gone. I told him we were going to look for a car elsewhere. Almost a month had passed when Butcher called to tell me that when their mechanic opened up the transmission on the car we had purchased that "it looked like a glitter bomb had gone off because of all the metal gears that had been shaved off, it needs a new transmission." Hatchett finally bought back their lemon so we could continue to look for another car. After another month & a half, Butcher called saying the car had a new transmission installed, it was running great & said, for added $1,000 plus, on top of the original purchase price, we could buy it again. Which was well over the NADA value of the car!!! Because it's mechanically sound it's worth more? Unbelievable. Used car salesman have a general reputation to be shady & deceitful, but these people give it a whole new meaning. I cannot put all the blame on Hatchett. I ignored my own instincts not to get this car, because of my desire to please my teenage daughter who desperately wanted this car & I was ready for our car search to be over. Have all used cars checked by your mechanic. Do not buy them otherwise & trust your instincts. Hatchett, Butcher, Bull?? What was I thinking?! This was the most miserable buying experience in my life. No stars isn't an option. I strongly recommend to avoid this dealership.

Unprofessional

by chef_choy on 05/10/2017

Thought I would share my couple experiences with Hatchett. I have been in twice to inquire about cars. My wife and I both needed to upgrade our Vehicles. We were unsure about who was going to go "first", so we made 2 trips. We spoke to Bill Stout both times. One about a Sonata, and the other about a Sante Fe. We decided that it would make sense to do the Sante Fe first. My best friend sells cars at another dealership, so I told him what we were looking for as well. We both are looking at either new, or for something less than 10k miles. We were in and looked at a Sante Fe on the floor. It wasnt the color that we wanted, but the price was right, as it was the "Last in Stock". The wife said that she wanted to sleep on it, but was pretty sure that was it.....even though she HATES black cars....and this one was black. We inquired if they could do the same deal on a white, and that was a no-go. We literally pulled out of the parking lot, and at the light at Tyler and Central, my buddy called and they had a white one, 4800 miles and it was 4k cheaper than the one at Hatchett. We looked at it that day and drove away. She loved that it had auto start and was the feature that she was most excited about. Turns out you have to spend 100 bucks a year for that option as it is done through the Hyundai app. I was setting up through the appl, and it said that you could email buyers agreement, Drivers License....and some other documents in to get the car registered to you through the app OR go into the dealership and they could do that there. I go into the service department and stand there for an awkward amount of time while 3 guys peck away at the computer.....no customers in sight.....no hi, hello, be right with you.....nothing. Finally one of the guys says "here for service?"....turns out its the Service Manager. I thought.....great......I was planning on using them for service to keep my warranty valid. I tell him what I am trying to do, and he rudely cuts me off and says "I dont handle money". Thinking that he is mistaken about what I am trying to do, I try to re-explain myself and again, im cut off. This time with "I understand what you are trying to do....and we can't help you". I start pulling my phone out to show him on the app where it says to go into the dealership, and he persists that he can't help me. I go inside and talk to Bill. I felt bad that we used his valuable time, and didnt buy the car from him already....but sure enough....in like less than 5 minutes I was taken care of. Fast forward to today. I go in for my first service visit.....already apprehensive, i get right in and they tell me to wait in the lobby. I thought I would go ahead and walk the lot and look at what they had in Sonata's. I make my rounds and get an important phone call. I am standing just to the right of the front door of the dealership. There are several cars parked on the walk. I leaned my elbow on the bed of one of the trucks there and the panic alarm goes off. Trying to talk on the phone and hear the other party on the line I walk away and continue my conversation. I cant help but notice the salesmen whom desk are on the other side of the window laughing at the situation.....which pissed me off. Neither one of these guys made an effort to ask me if I needed any help while I peaked in the window of the 10+ cars that I looked at, but had sense enough to know I was there. So I continue my lengthily conversation and didn't even realize that I did it, but put my elbow on the same truck. One of the salesman tapped the wall of his cubical to alert the other salesman who got the laugh at me....and he got up from his desk and decided now was a good time to come talk to me. He tried to interrupt my phone conversation......twice.....to get my attention and I acknowledged that I heard him, but was busy at the moment. He went back in and sat at his desk. Now I realize that they were the ones who set off the panic alarm on the car, and I was furious. Once my phone conversation was over, I went back in and confronted him. Told him that I knew what he did, That I didn't think it was that funny. He told me that the truck I was leaning on was "Sold". If its sold and you don't want anyone to touch it, move it to the back of the lot.......not next to the front door. Overall, I think this dealership has a serious lack of professionalism.......and I will drive to the other side of town to visit the east side location. I sure wont be buying my next car from there.....ever. On the way out, Bill said "are the messing with you" and I said yea. He then replied "you cant go anywhere" to which I replied "actually, that is the point, I can go anywhere". Bill is a good guy, and have had a good experience with him. I am sold on the car, just not the other employees, or the service department.

Hatchett Hyundri West/Dealelrship rating

This dealership is full of very honest and helpful employees. Joe was the name of the specific dealer who had sold me my 2011 Chevy Cruze. He was very helpful before, during, and after the purchase of my vehicle. I would highly recommend anyone interested in purchasing a vehicle to ask for Joe; He stood out to me in a very positive way compared to many dealers I have come across in the past. I hope you are as satisfied as I am after your purchase.

Excellent experience, without the hassle

by kellygkemnitz on 12/30/2016

Purchased a 2017 Hyundai Sonata Sport in December 2016, with Hamilton Richardson as my sales representative. He was knowledgable of the various features of the car, and able to answer any questions I had. Not the typical car-buying experience, as Hamilton is laid back and not pushy. Not once was I asked, "What do you want your payment to be?", which displays the attitude of both Hamilton and the dealership in general. After signing all the paperwork, I was given a tour of the dealership and service center, to make it feel like "home". My parents have both purchased vehicles from this dealership, most recently my father in 2015. We've visited other local dealerships, and Scholfield Hyundai West shines above them all.

Fun Buying Experience

by Russel314 on 12/28/2016

Bill Stout served as an excellent host for the buying experience. While providing serious information contrasting the two vehicle styles that I was considering, Bill Stout kept up witty banter and stories. Bill Stout made sure the car was serviced and ready to drive off the lot by the time we left

Loyal Customers

by Miami72 on 12/16/2016

I think this is the 3rd vehicle we've purchased from Scholfield, and it won't be the last! John O. is great to work with. I can now say, with as much as he knows about us, we feel like he's part of the family. Thanks for always getting us exactly what we need John O! :-)

Excellent Experience!

by fammdw364 on 12/15/2016

I have bought quite a few vehicles in my 50 years and my experience with Matt Watson was one of my best experiences yet. Matt is one of the most positive, easy going and professional sales associates I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Matt was attentive to my needs, appreciative of my time and very knowledgeable of the vehicle I was interested in. This attention to detail didn't end when the papers were signed either. Matt is always the first face I see welcoming me back for service or any other needs I have at the dealership. If you are in need of a new Hyundai, be sure to call Matt Watson at Scholfield Hyundai West!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

by stephanie3781 on 12/02/2016

We had been searching for a larger vehicle for our family. Something with 3rd Row Seating. Josh Breed posted a bunch of vehicles from the lot on his facebook page. I was just browsing, not really expecting to see anything that would interest me. Then I stumbled upon the 2013 Ford Explorer in that beautiful Flame Blue! Which then lead me to the website and the initial contact with Josh. Between Josh, financing, and the manager, they got us what we needed for our trade and where we needed to be on the overall purchase of the vehicle. They even found us a lower interest rate than our very faithful credit union could offer. Thank you all for your combined effort in making this happen! I LOVE my Explorer!

so awesome

if you are looking for the best car buying experience ever you need to go see Heather at scholfield west. I bought a used car and was treated no different then from someone what was buying a brand new car. everyone there is really nice and they dont hassle you. Heather is one of those people that you have no problem talking to. when all said and done you leave there with a new friend. And last but not least doing the financing was a breeze when you have someone like kurt helping you. Not only did he do his job he was also very helpful educating us on how to understand how credit really works. big thank you to heather and kurt. i will be back when its time for my next car buying.

Excellent

by Amy_Hyundai1 on 08/21/2016

I purchased a 2016 Elantra from Heather Cusick a few months ago and had a great experience with the sales and finance departments. It is rare to find the exact right amount of follow-up in the area of customer service, but Scholfield Hyundai West is a great example. I felt that Heather was ready to help me however possible, yet she didn't ever contact me unnecessarily. That certainly wasn't the case with the two other dealerships where I looked at vehicles, as they were quite bothersome, unhelpful, and uneducated about my vehicle needs. I dealt with both Heather and Kurt in Finance and it was one of the quickest purchasing processes I have encountered. They gave all the pertinent information without any of the hassles that can often be associated with a vehicle purchase at a dealership. Several of my co-workers have purchased here and I have always heard positive feedback. I have visited the Service Dept. for car washes and basic maintenance and those visits have been positive as well. I recommend this dealership to everyone and plan to be a long-term customer.

Buyer beware!

by carfanatic93 on 06/20/2016

Went into Schofield Hyundai West today, looking for a new car. Salesman Matt Watson made sure they had the vehicle I was interested in on the lot, brought it up and then began to "value" my trade-in. After more than an hour, yes you read that correctly, more than an hour AND I was the only customer in the dealership, JUST ME... Matt finally came back with an "offer" on my trade. An offer so low it was downright insulting. Simply rude! I bought this vehicle from them brand new less than two years ago, it's in great condition, less than 26,000 miles, all the service is done with them, yes everything, and they offered about $8,000 less than blue book/NADA value for the car. I immediately stopped the deal at that very moment. I haven't even driven the vehicle I was interested in purchasing, only sat in it and Matt was PUSHING me to sign on the line! I know that Schofield Hyundai West is a business and the purpose of a business is to make money, but they aren't going to make their entire quota off of me.Especially when I haven't even driven the new 2017 that I was interested in purchasing. Not going to happen. Matt was really pushy and not helpful. Totally wasted my time coming to Schofield Hyundai West. I'm really disappointed in them and also really frustrated that I've sent members of my family as well as friends to buy from them.... I've learned my lesson the hard way! Buyer Beware!

The best no-hassles sales and service around.

by Danschoice on 03/30/2016

This is the second vehicle we have purchased from Bill in large part because of his knowledge about the vehicles he is selling. There is never any sales pressure and he goes the extra mile to find the vehicle you want.

Best Dealership Ever

by vweaver1 on 12/26/2015

I just purchased my new Hyundai Santa Fe and I can't tell you enough as to how happy was the service I received. Matt Watson was very complete in telling me what I was getting and how I could pay for my new vehicle. He offered to help me in anyway before and after the purchase. I believe that Schofield is one of the best dealerships in Wichita, if not the Best! This is my second vehicle and I could not be happier.
