Never Again
Written by Tammy on 11/02/2017
I'm a single working mother. I purchased my daughters 1st (used) car here. Salesman, Butcher, spoke highly of the service dept & was polite & friendly upon our 1st meeting. He took us for a test drive & there was a slight jerk while accelerating. I said that's the transmission. He said that's just these little 4 cyl. engines & spoke again of their A1 auto dept. Against my better judgement, I trusted him & the quality of their inventory with it being such a large, well established dealership. On our trip home from Wichita we again experienced transmission issues in McPherson, Ks. Roughly 58 miles from Hatchett Hyundai. The next day (we didn't even have the car 24 hours) when the car starting repeatedly jerking hard while trying to accelerate, but failed to, at the same time the RPM's are holding at 4,000 because the transmission wouldn't shift gears & the transmission warning light came on. I told Butcher, he apologized & agreed that I should bring the car back. I took the car to my mechanic & he said from the code reading & the issues we had with it, there's no way the dealership wasn't aware of the problem. We purchased the car on a Saturday so the loan hadn't been finalized through my lender. I told Hatchett & my lender I didn't want the loan for this car & they both agreed it would be cancelled. It was never cancelled & no one would take responsibility for it, just said we should wait & see what the service dept. says. I asked for a loaner car while the other car was being checked out. Butcher agreed. I didn't hear anything for a week & a half, then Butcher called saying the manager was upset for having so many loaners out & we needed to bring it back, though they didn't know when the other car would be done being checked out by the service dept. I was very upset & wanted them to buy the car back, because I knew it had the transmission problems long before we bought it. I was told numerous times that they had sent a check to our lender & bought the car back, but when I would call the loan officer, no check had been received. I called Bull, with the financing dept. that did our paperwork while at Hatchett, he said basically since the contract was finalized that we were owners of the vehicle & their was nothing he could do & was quite rude. Butcher was plain rude by this time & answered all my questions with I don't know. Spencer Cusick, sales manager, called wanting the loaner back, but never mentioned anything about the status of the car being serviced. We made a 3rd trip to Hatchett to return the loaner. Butcher told me they had no idea what was wrong with the car we purchased, but would let us know & if need be, would find a comparable vehicle to replace it. My faith in their ability to be honest & to put the customer 1st was long gone. I told him we were going to look for a car elsewhere. Almost a month had passed when Butcher called to tell me that when their mechanic opened up the transmission on the car we had purchased that "it looked like a glitter bomb had gone off because of all the metal gears that had been shaved off, it needs a new transmission." Hatchett finally bought back their lemon so we could continue to look for another car. After another month & a half, Butcher called saying the car had a new transmission installed, it was running great & said, for added $1,000 plus, on top of the original purchase price, we could buy it again. Which was well over the NADA value of the car!!! Because it's mechanically sound it's worth more? Unbelievable. Used car salesman have a general reputation to be shady & deceitful, but these people give it a whole new meaning. I cannot put all the blame on Hatchett. I ignored my own instincts not to get this car, because of my desire to please my teenage daughter who desperately wanted this car & I was ready for our car search to be over. Have all used cars checked by your mechanic. Do not buy them otherwise & trust your instincts. Hatchett, Butcher, Bull?? What was I thinking?! This was the most miserable buying experience in my life. No stars isn't an option. I strongly recommend to avoid this dealership.
