A Fantastic Value Without Trade-offs

This car was the perfect one for me the second I sat in it at the dealership. It was love at first drive. Being a college student, I needed something to fit my busy lifestyle while still being able to park in tight spaces on campus, or have enough power to feel safe merging onto the highway. For someone in the market for a premium sedan at a Yugo price point, I'd recommend the 2008 Avalon Limited hands down. What I looked for in a car were power, comfort, utility, and style. In terms of power, this car is sufficient. I never feel like it is underpowered, though it it not meant to be a race car. What it most focuses on is comfort. This car, being the Limited, has every option imaginable except active cruise control, which I dislike anyway. It has twelve way adjustable seats, reclining rear seats, ten speaker JBL premium audio, automatic wipers and headlights, and much more. Since I often haul bulky items, I needed a big trunk and spacious interior. This car provides an expansive trunk that is deep and tall, so boxes are never a problem. The middle seat also folds down to provide storage space for long, narrow items like skis or lumber. The only downside that I can see about the 2008 Avalon in general is the style. Though it is simple and elegant if you notice it, this car flies under most peoples' radar because it is not flashy or overstyled. My car has an optional ground effects package to brighten up the look a bit, and set it apart from the rest. This package is rare, but certainly out there if you are willing to search for it. The best thing about this car that is not widely known is the durability of the materials, both inside and out. If you were to look at this car without any knowledge of the year or mileage, you might think it is new or almost new. There is certainly a lot of credit to go to the previous owner, who clearly took great care of the car, but good material quality shows throughout this car. The leather is real and abundant throughout the interior, from the sets to the doors. The wood textures on the steering wheel and door are fake, but well done to the point it would take a purist to notice. The only quality complaint I could think of is the brittle plastic in the center console. It feels a little cheap compared to the great materials surrounding it, but I will give the engineers at Toyota credit, they designed them well enough that they still don't rattle or break.

Bought the demo with 8k miles on it for mama. She is completely satisfied and so am I. 33 mpg on the highway if you can believe that. That overall has been the most pleasant surprise. Considered the Lexus but why pay 10-15k more? This has all the features without the increase in price. The 08 is sleeker than the 11 and looks sharper.

The 2008 Toyota Avalon is the best value car in its class. The ride is very smooth & quiet. I've test drove the Lexus GS before I test drove the avalon and I could not tell the difference in performance. The avalon has more cabin space at lower price

2008 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

Bought my XLS used with 120k, now has 190k. Repairs/maintenance - alternator, new battery, AC recharge, tires, oil changes, brake pads. that's it, just wear and tear stuff! .....Nav/JBL. Love the sound system, hate the Nav. Buttons to navigate the screen is ridiculously horrible. No car is perfect but I really like this car. ....Best features are comfortable highway cruiser. Great on gas, 31 hwy. takes regular gas. Quick car with powerful smooth engine. Quiet ride. Cavernous interior space. Reclining (slightly) rear seats. Big trunk. Very reliable, not expensive to service. Precise dual/auto climate controls. Dual AC charger. The cons- thin sheet metal, non folding side mirrors, blind spot, gas door and trunk door buttons next to each other and unlit. I get gas and pop the trunk open instead of the gas door. Weak paint, no radio volume level read out. Telescopic steering wheel needs to come out more. Dash cracks, weak rear defroster, ride to soft, handles like a boat, throttle response slow, loses throttle, hesitant turning mid way around a street corner. All cars have imperfections but still a great car.

My first Toyota

2008 Toyota Avalon Touring 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

I bought it used a few weeks ago after much research, thought, and comparisons. I am 59 years old, and have owned many cars. My favorite up to this point was a 1998 Lincoln Continental. I had 90% decided the Avalon Touring was as close as I would ever get to my old continental, so I finally went to try one out. The minute I hit the highway, I knew this was the one. I couldn't be happier after three weeks and 1500 miles. Perfect car for me.
