Overview
Pickup trucks have long dominated the vehicle landscape in America. Work vehicle, adventure rig, family hauler — you name it and the truck can do it. Full-size vans, however, are starting to have their moment in the sun. The 2021 Ford Transit Cargo Van is a full-size van that offers multiple powertrains, rear- or all-wheel-drive, a number of roof-height configurations and two wheelbase lengths. Pair these versatile setups with a long list of available options and upfitting possibilities, and you've got a commercial van that can rival almost any pickup for usability.
For 2021, Ford has eliminated the Transit's optional 2.0-liter diesel powertrain. This might be a disappointment to some buyers, but we still think the standard 3.5-liter V6 and Ford's optional turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine are worthy choices. Ford has also added a number of option packages to help preload the Transit Cargo for specific purposes such as parcel delivery, RV conversion and all-terrain adventures.
Inside, the Transit offers a likable interior, with a comfortable ride and an optional 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. For on-road safety, there are a number of driver assist aids such as forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, with optional parking sensors and adaptive cruise control.
Some of the Transit's rivals offer more upscale interiors or slightly higher tow ratings, but that's not enough to steer us away. Overall, the Transit Cargo is an ultra-versatile van that should easily impress most commercial and recreational van shoppers.
Which Transit Cargo Van does Edmunds recommend?
Ford gives you lots of freedom to customize your particular van. The optional turbocharged engine and 8-inch Ford Sync touchscreen are worthy upgrades, but ultimately it all comes down to picking the best mix of features to match how you're going to use your Transit.

Terrible truck
Zach Gabai, 12/08/2020
2020 Ford Transit Cargo Van 250 Medium Roof 3dr Van w/148" WB (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
Transmission issues since purchased.
Steering failure after 600 miles. Took 6 weeks in the shop to fix.
Intermittent radio issues like defaulting to FM after leaving off for more than 10 min and listening to AM before..
Doors need to be slammed to lock/latch in the back.
Sliding door needed rubber filler for the door stop open position.
Just really bad initial quality.
Dealer said … trani is fine. Slam the doors it’s a work truck.
Radio was worked on but same issue.

2020 Ford Transit Cargo Van 250 High Roof 3dr Ext Van w/148" WB (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
The only 3 things that are a con: 1) no swivel front seats, 2) there is some type of "thing" or pump or motor that grumbles intermittently - I know its "normal" because every owner remarks about it yet nobody can give an answer as to what it is. It may grumble once or twice, sometimes 20 times before being quiet for the night. 3) When you take off and put it in drive (so you think) it … passes "D" and goes into a manual gear which makes you hesitate or bog down until you click it back a notch to Drive. Other that that- zero glitches at 50k miles

Ford transit cargo owner now for 6 years

2021 Ford Transit Cargo Van 250 Medium Roof 3dr Van AWD w/130" WB (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
Ok, I needed a new work truck for me for my painting and remodeling business, I have always owned ford cargo vans before, the higher roof had my interest as for me getting older and it’s just easier to get materials in and out while still able to stand. The gas mileage is disappointing I get 9 mpg (no eco boost motor) I had shelving installed on day one, within two months the mounting … brackets tore out of the walls, the metal this truck is made out of is very thin and if you even push the cargo door shut on the sheetmetal , as a friend of mine did on mine, you will have a dent/crease in panel. FSt forward 6 years and 49k miles, now I get a dash notification stating, hill start assist not available, along with my ABS system not working and all warning lights on now.
Took into see what code comes up and to my surprise, no codes were found. I’m just starting to look into this issue as I write this so I don’t know what this hill start assist light will need to repair issue.
Just my experience with mine.
Was hoping for better gas mileage and disappointed by thin sheet metal used.
But other then that, I like it.

2020 Ford Transit Cargo Van 250 High Roof 3dr Ext Van w/148" WB (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
We had test driven several competitors' vehicles, and by far, the Ford Transit Cargo Van was the smoothest, comfiest, and in our opinion, safest vehicle for us to purchase for the purpose of converting into a Class B Camper.
We have a limited number of reviews for the 2021 Ford Transit Cargo Van, so we've included reviews for other years of the Transit Cargo Van since its last redesign.
